    Sir, I would be proud to own a vehicle like that! As you stated, for all intense purposes, you have a brand new vehicle. Approx. 50 miles on a rebuilt engine, with hours so low its unreal. I drove tractor-trailer cross country for a little over 30 years and you my friend got a steal! The only advise I could possibly give is keep up on the maintenance, and "Don't forget to drain your air tanks!!!" Even if it has a air dryer and self bleeding valves, its still good to drain the moisture out at least twice to three times a week and even more in cold weather. Last thing you want is frozen airlines when there's two to four foot of snow on the ground. The other thing is checking to see if its equipped with a engine plug in for cold weather. If not you might want to see about getting a heat lamp/ oil pan heater pad. It's just a suggestion. I hope you have fun and many, many years of service from it!

    I drove trucks for a living for 30 years in the U.K. I watched this video and I am sorry but I am green with envy that you have this great vehicle. Truly awesome. The spec is so high and everything is solid because it is a military vehicle and things are made not to break. Cummins engine, probably the best, their quality control of components is really high. If the speedo is original the odometer reads 17211 miles which means the truck is almost in new condition as far as wear and tear is concerned. Definately the ultimate "bug out" vehicle. Good luck with it and enjoy.

      @@danieltrobaugh8600 Lol,you need to do some research on your trucks.The M939 5 Ton Trucks all had a Cummins.The first Variants of them before having the large 1200×20 CTIS Tires had a NHC-250 Cummins when AM General manufactured them.When BMY Harsco made Contract to produce them without AMG,they had the 6CTA Cummins.
      The NHC-250 Cummins was also used in the M809 5 Ton Trucks by AM General.

      Military Trucks alike Firetrucks have low Hours and Miles.The Military often rebuilds their trucks when they hit 730 Hours of use.
      The highest amount of Miles I've seen Military Rigs go up to is 55K.Most of the time,you'll find them with over 20K,and some even only go up to 7K.They don't see much use like other industrial trucks,espiecally ones on the road,which explains why the Mileage is extremely low.

    That front toolbox under the R/H door was originally designed to be an outdoor mounted battery box. Relocate the batteries there and you can repurpose the passenger side bench seat for inboard storage or replace it with an air ride / suspension type seat.

    Thanks for the informative walk around, start-up, and brief drive. Either injection, from days of owning '68 Ford F100 (300ci, straight-6, 3-on-the-tree), by the time I purchased was 12yo with 80k. Anytime it was below 20F needed a couple squirts of starting fluid. Can not imagine why carb required rebuilding and the wear on engine from flash start.

You made a smart choice buying it, and it will be a very important valuable asset to you when you will need it because you can definitely go places that other vehicles can’t, and as for a smaller vehicle if I had to choose would definitely be Toyota pick up trucksbetween Toyota and these army trucks, they are quality that you don’t get in Ford Chevy Dodge

    Your truck is actually a M925A2.The M925 is a M923 with just a PTO Winch.But on the Papers and Tags,it will normally say W/0 for "Without Winch" and W/W for "With Winch",because of the common factor that some of the M923's get Winches aftermarket,and some Winches even get taken off of the M925's.

    Hey Josh. You might be able to get a Tech Manual 'T.M. for the jewel maybe from someone that is still in the service. They have a T.M. Library for every piece they have. Glad you have straight air brakes instead of air over hydraulic like they used to to. Swap the lines on the winch and the spool valve will be right as far as the decal goes. A little ether won't hurt but none is better. Allisons are bulletproof. Good truck!Drive that baby!As for the air popping off, your unloader governor might be adjusted or have to be replaced. Try adjusting first.

Both have the multifuel engines which, imo, if there is some sort of apocalypse, nobody is gonna be stopping at their local fuel stations and fill up. While one could siphon the fuel, I guarantee others will also have the same idea and may become violent over that resource.

But I think it would be ideal to permanently mount a backup camera that is switch activated. also I'd really like to put LED flood lights all over the thing so that I can make daylight anytime of night.

The soft tops are crap but that's because they are designed to drop in a 50cal mount ring for a M-2 50cal. The slang is just to call them a 5 ton. Did the remove out the oil air cleaner.. if so it is to make it street legal but they can be changed back if you don't tell no one. they will climb grades like you can't even imagine and drive down them like a bat out of hell..As an MP I have seen them knock down small trees to get the shit out of dodge when taking fire... as for fording water I have seen guys drive them with half of the steering wheel under water in the cab.....

      , its going to be a lot of fun. I'm actually somewhat dreading driving all the way up there. What is normally a two hour and 15 minute ride is likely going to take 5 hours

    Every truck over 3.5 metric tons capacity in Europe has a 24 Volt electrical system. Only in US and Canada heavy diesel trucks are still built with a 12 Volt electrical.

    • @Slim_Slid
      @Slim_Slid Před 5 lety

      These trucks have two 24 Volt Batteries.They can also run with one 24V and one 12V.But they cannot operate with one 12V or two 12V's.

    Awesome truck. Just wondering if you still have it, how its been treating you and have you had any problems with it. How hard is it to get parts for the truck when needed?

      The Multi-Fuel is a shit brick and a turd.There's a good reason why they instantly got rid of them with Mack Engines in the M39 5 Ton Trucks.Those Multi-Fuels were underpowered and short lasting Engines.They got worse MPG in a 5 Ton than a Deuce.The LDS-465 made 175 HP and 445 Torque,while the LDT-465 made 135 HP and 330 Torque.The Multi-Fuels barley could get over 60K on Mileage without getting high end Maintenance or a Engine Rebuild.The only thing neat about those Engines is the factor of them having different Pistons,Pumps,and Fuel Injectors that allows them to consume Gasoline,Petrol,and Ethanol mixed with Diesel Fuel or Oil,and it can't be 50/50,it has to be 30/70.Those Multi-Fuels are still Ignition Compression Engines and need to be treated like Diesel Engines,they will not use straight Gasoline without damaging themselves.The 465 made 9-10 MPG in the Deuce & A Half while 2-3 MPG is what the 5 Tons got.To boil it down,the other Engines used in the 5 Ton Trucks will outlast a Multi-Fuel and make much more power.

    Josh it looks like you are not used to driving trucks. You said the gap between 1st and second gear ratios was quite big. Yes well 1st gear is what we call 'crawler gear" not used when driving on the road in normal conditions. Take off in 2nd or 3rd. With the whopping big 8 liter engine, no problem.

    that has to be 81 gallons for sure. ive seen the 40 gallon tank on a suburban and it seemed small until i filled it up one day.it took $80 to fill up.

    Could the problem of the winch lever being backwards be from having the cable wound the wrong direction on the winch drum? Or maybe the hydraulic couplings to the winch motor are backwards?

    Nice buy and I don't think you have much of an idea of how much potential that 8.3 Cummings has if you look to find it. It can make 22,500 pounds move around in a pretty big hurry. I got about the same acceleration pulling over 50,000 pounds with an 8.3. It's there if you chose to find it. BTW it still sipped fuel considering the work it did.

    • @Slim_Slid
      @Slim_Slid Před 5 lety

      I highly doubt that you moved even over 30,000 lbs with a 5 Ton Truck.That is just impossible.Even a older M939 5 Ton or M809 5 Ton with a NHC-250 Cummins can't handle that,being both are 240 HP stock.My 1980 M915A0 with a NTC-400 is rated for 53,000 lbs at 57 MPH,while it was Governed.So I highly doubt that a 5 Ton could pull that off,literally.Even if the truck you used was a Semi Tractor,that won't be done without several Aftermarket Modifications.
