Lea Salonga is Philippine and did a great job, it's time for an Indian Disney princess to pick up her heritage. Voice and looks is there.
Fun fact. As we all know, Adam or 'Beast' was cursed for being a dick in the Disney version of the story. In the original he was not at all mean and was incredibly kind and generous from the beginning. He was cursed for spurning the advances of a creepy old lady that also happened to be a powerful magic fairy. I'll add a bit of the original story below for anyone interested.
Basically there were two fairies in the story, one good one evil. The evil one started out normal enough. When Adam was born she took human for in order to get a job and ended up being hired by the palace as his caretaker. Well, when Adam hit his teens she got ideas. When he came of age she asked him to marry her. He said no. She got furious and basically said a kind of 'if I can't have you you'll die ugly and alone.' sort of deal and cursed him.
Now, the story has magic working in such a way that curses have to have a way to break them. The evil fairy made a very specific set of events that had to take place to break the curse.
The curse turned him into a sort of lizard man with horns and would kill him after a set amount of time (I don't remember how long).
In order to break the curse, he had to follow the following rules.
A. A woman of royal birth had to say she loved him and mean it.
B. He had to act like he was slow in the head in her presence.
C. He could not under any circumstances tell her any of this.
Or he could agree to marry her and she'd lift the curse.
Beauty, or Bell as most know her has her own backstory. She is a princess that was secreted away from a plot to kill her. Her father is not her real father but even he doesn't know that. His real daughter died shortly after birth and the good fairy that helped Adam break his curse replaced the dead baby with her. Beauty was also the ONLY girl in the kingdom that fit the strict rules for breaking the curse. The events leading up to her being imprisoned in the castle were more or less the same as the movie only getting her into the castle was the plan all along. Adam initially refused to do it until the fairy pointed out that he'd literally die if they didn't and might anyway.
Another difference is...her dad was not a very good person. Blaming her for his imprisonment since he wouldn't have taken the rose if she hadn't asked for one, and demanding she take his place. (great parenting am I right?) A final tidbit is how he eventually won her over. The fairy found a loophole in the rules. The rules demanded he act like he was stupid in front of her but that was *physically* in front of her specifically. The good fairy used her magic to allow him to enter her dreams as his real self. He still couldn't tell her anything but he could talk to her as himself otherwise.
He would come to talk to her each night and end each conversation by asking her to marry him. Fairly early in she said yes because he was everything she liked in a man but as soon as she did the dream would end. The following day the beast would have diner with her and end the evening by asking her to marry her using the same phrasing as in the dream. She'd say no in disgust and he'd run away crying.
There's obviously more to it but bottom line she eventually figured it out and told the Beast that she loved him. He transformed into the *literal* man of her dreams and they got married.
Her voice is so soothing and calming it could put me to sleep
