The videos suggested by "Roll20" were torturous, and I almost said never mind. Wife found your videos and each was a joy to follow along. TY TY TY. 20yr returning paper & pen DM now tech savvy w/t roll20 VTT and loaded for bear, thanks to you teaching all the bells and whistles.
Thanks so much for this series. As a new DM they are proving invaluable in setting up my campaign.
Thank you, I've been spending a lot of time creating monsters and there often glitchy. now I see that just paying for the monster manual is the way to go.
As many Brooklyn-accented goblins have said before, "Time is Money, friend." Less time making monster stat-blocks from scratch is more time for anything else.
Crashgem - 'Where the boar at?'
Mr Sadeyv - 'I'mma right heeere!'
Much of my life is spend looking for monsters hiding on different layers of roll20.
Hey, first of all, buy the monster manual if you want to support roll20.
But, if you don't have any money, or don't want to spend it on this, or you are just starting in roll20 and don't know if you're gonna stay there...
There's a way of filling that "monster form" in more automatically. If you go to the info icon, on your left-side bar, and look for a Boar, for example, you just drag the Boar, and drop it to where you need to fill in.
It saves A LOT of time. But, of course, you would need to do that to any monster that you want to use (at least once). Plus, if you want macros you'd need to set them up yourself, which there's a fast way of doing, as well....
If you click on a monster action, and go to the chat, then click on the text box to chat, and press the "up" arrow key, there would appear a big text with commands and stuff, that is your macro, you just need to select that text(Ctrl+a/Ctrl+e), copy or cut (Ctrl+c or Ctrl+x) that and past it as a plane text (Ctrl+shift+v) in the monster macro abilities, and that's it. There's a bunch of tutorials, just in case you didn't understand my poor writing...
But, anyways, I appreciate what the channel is doing, and it helped me a lot in this quarantine times.
Good luck all!
Good shortcuts for sure. I use a mix of purchased, modifying purchased, punched in manually, or just using the dice roller if i do not have time beforehand.
Hey CrashGem- again, I want to say how much I appreciate your channel and how much you have helped me with my game. Question- Is there a way to upload a multi-page PDF into Roll 20? I can only figure out how to do it one page at a time.
I don't think that is something supported by Roll20. What you can do, is host the PDF on your cloud, create a handout using the cover of the PDF as the image, and then hyperlink the hosted document in the player's description area.
Wow, Amazing. Unluckly i May even purchase the Monster manual, but since i'm italian and most of my players don't speak english very well i'm stuck on create monsters myself, because translate them from the manual takes me the same time of create from scratch.
Sorry to hear that. I hope your players appreciate all the work you are putting in.
Your videos are so awesome, thank you! Question: is it possible to edit purchased monsters (for instance by changing their token)?
Yes! That is the best part! By having lots of purchased pre-made monsters it saves you time when you need to customize, reskin, or create your own monsters. And you can swap out the art.
I understand your thinking in regards to not making a character sheet on the boar. I do create the sheet just in case I need a giant boar once again in another campaign, I mean once created and using transmogrifier, it can be imported into any game at anytime. I feel it is worth the extra five minutes to set up. However YMMV.
My ideal scenario is to have a roll20 game where all my monsters/npcs live and whenever I need something I transmog from that rather than pulling fresh from the compendium each time. Currently, I have most Beasts set up like that, but would be great to expand to cover everything else.
@@CrashGem That is exactly what I done. Created a new campaign, transmog everything into there and basically use that game to create anything new for any game, this way if players were to log in to a game they are not going to see what you are working on accidentally. I have also created and stored my monsters per CR rating compared to alphabetically. Though I suppose I could tag them with their CR rating.
How can I scale monsters to fit hex maps?
Question. If you wanted to use 2 or three board in this scenario, does every boar token need a separate character sheet? Do you need 3 sheets?
I had MM set to my table. Yet, monsters sheet won't show up when I throw theme in the grid. The token apears, with corect info (lile HP), but that card won't.
Can you give any tips? Thanks!!!
The character sheet for the monsters will only pop up the first time it is added to your game from the compendium. To quickly open a monster character sheet you can hold alt and double click the linked token.
I have a question about rolling, when I setup the character/enemy, and I setup the attack. I put 1D4. And thats it for damage. And it rolls 2 dice everytime. I have advantage rolls off in the settings too, idk whats going on lol
Do you have advantage off in the game settings or in the settings of the enemy itself? Sometimes you have to go in and adjust individuals because they overall game settings don't always apply to everything.
Hey, I just bought the monster manual irl but can I copy like a code or something so I can use these monsters in roll20?
If only they would translate the compendium and/or the monsters my group would happily buy it.
But as of now we still have to rely on an external compendium. (translated by an unpaid community so not an impossible task). Same thing for Charactermencer, spells, and items in character sheet.
They talked about it being almost done a few years ago but no news since :'(
yea, that is disappointing to hear. They can be very, very, very slow to make the changes and updates they claim to be working on.
"You agreed to DM...so you must have some kind of free time." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I feel attacked, sir. Lol
Nah, you convinced me. No more making my own tokens; I'll just buy the manual
So I don't own the Roll20 version of the MM but I am able to search some of the monsters but they have no picture associated. Is that just freebie stuff to wet your appetite to buy the Roll20 MM?
the monster stuff, especially the art, is all tied up with SRD licensing and such. So any monsters released with the free rules might be useable, but they likely will not have art.
I've been using Roll20 for a few weeks and I've never seen the "distance arrow" when I'm trying to move a token, to see how far I can do. How did you do that?!? (You did this at 5:24)

It's me again. Lol
Really glad I found your channel. Is there any information about the games you run and the ability to play?
Hey! The easiest way to stay up to date on campaigns and one-shots would be through Discord. You can hit me up at CrashGem#7777
You can also check out my website: www.crashgem.com
At this time I have 5 weekly games but they are all full. I Run a monthly HeroQuest game and a monthly Equestria game that sometimes have openings. As time permits I run other one-shots as well.
I really like the decorative border on your custom tokens. Can you share where its from?
Again, a wonderful Video. But it appears to me, that buying a monster manual is available if you play D&D 🤔
I wonder if this is also possible with another game 🤔
Unsure which systems have support before D&D and Pathfinder. But for me, "Time is money, Friend." If I can spend some money to save a lot of time, I will.
What does the formula mean on the NPC sheet? Because I don’t know what I would put in there
@@CrashGem It was the one next to the HP. The first two sessions went well without me knowing though
What if I don't have character sheet there??
On the journal tab you have no monster actors?
You will need to make some, buy some, or import some.
But will I be able to place 65,340,285 boars?
Only you and your available RAM know that answer for sure, but 99.99% sure the answer is no.
Where's the Borat?
It scares me a little how obviously practiced you are at making your own monsters. I mean, I have MM in Roll20, but you went through that 1..2..3
I’m running 5 weekly games and a monthly series, plus extra games as time permits, it’s starting to become second nature.
@@CrashGem Thats a lot of games. I only run the one. So I suppose I have more time to prepare, i.e. create sheets for monsters. FTR though Giant boar is in the SRD, so just drag it over it over from the tab and it auto uploads.
@@majorfokker658 I enjoy all of my campaigns, but it would be nice to focus on just one, I definitely miss that a bit.
I am running my first Roll20 D&D adventure this weekend and these videos have been a huge help... Thank You!
Happy to help. Good luck with your game.
