      The baby is still a little young to fully understand the concept of sharing, it would seem. But you can tell these two are good friends. The parrot doesn’t seem to mind.

      +Carolyn Tainter I can tell by the comments that many people do not realize just how intelligent these birds are. A well cared for bird will always be able to be trusted around its family members. It is too many rescue birds who have been severely neglected and abused that may bite and act aggressively. This is not their fault and is not in their nature. This is caused by being abused. These birds are magnificent creatures that require lots of attention and affection. If people want to own one plan on spending at minimum $100.00 a month for just their general care ( veterinarian care not included).

      @lesnyk255 Před 8 lety +13

      +Carolyn Tainter I was surprised by that too. I know how to read dogs, and to a lesser extent cats & horses, but I know absolutely nothing 1st hand about birds. That beak looks like it could do a lot of damage to a baby, & I was cringing the whole time - but the bird seemed completely unflustered. I know they're intelligent beings, but they're different from any critter I'm personally familiar with!

      Animals are very, very good at noticing that this is a baby human. It is mind-boggling to watch how dogs, cows, these birds, so may animals just really get it and they are clearly gentle with them.

      Yeah that isn't common. I was impressed. And this is a bird that knows it has a bite force of 2000 pounds of pressure per square inch. So it's amazing to see it use such precise control of the pressure it uses with it's beak. I can't imagine the beak itself has much by way of sence of feel, which is why they often feel with their toungue. This is a feat both bird and owner can be proud of.

      You're right. It's the mother who's at fault here. What was she thinking?! That bird could have (and had every right to) take that child's finger off. They crack large nuts open with that razor sharp beak. You wouldn't let your kid near a scissors now would you? If that cockatoo took a turn, this could have ended badly. And the baby wasn't exactly gentle with it.
      Second. Human saliva can be lethal to a bird. Our dna should not mix. And that baby's saliva should have been nowhere near that bird. The mother also had no respect for the animal. She was filming it being teased and it is never a wise decision to tease an animal.
      And don't get me started on where she put the baby to film this.
      Just totally senseless "entertainment". I didn't find this cute at all.

      Rene Siracusa - I believe you. I was visiting a Zoo in England 36 years ago. My friend's toddler ran toward the cockatoos' cage (it wasn't separated from the public) and I chased him. As I reached the little boy, I stepped in slippery mud and instinctively grabbed onto the cage bars to avoid falling. But the bird that was closest clamped on my thumb in such a nasty way that I remember the pain to this day.
      For that reason, once my first child started crawling we took our Amazon to my in-laws, where she remained for 10 years. I wanted my children to keep all their fingers intact.

    Cockatoos are probably the funniest and friendliest birds there is, i own one, As long as the are kept socialized they are safe, but unless they are moody (which like people birds can have bad days) it should be ok.
