This video is practically an endgame course all by itself. There are so many instructive themes here. Thanks, GM King, for giving this game the proper treatment that it deserves with your customary clarity.
this endgame truly is Fischer's masterpiece... what a brilliancy in understanding all the position's nuances. thank you so much, GM Daniel King!
It is not a bishop, but the pope himself.
No, the patriarch
@@beloglavisup2 As a Russian, Taimanov himself must have thought of this as an elephant vs a horse and of course elephants are stronger beasts
Brilliant!
It should be noted that the original meaning of word "bishop" is something like "supervisor". The equivalent of "Vizir" for Persian.
So it has nothing to do with church roles, but with monarchy roles.
It is funny that French call this piece "fou" that means "mad",
@@archaeopteryx7405 thanks
Wonderful end game. This one in My great predecessors vol 4.
62.Bxg6 is stuff of true genius. Thank you Daniel for an incredible analysis of this great game.
Just more than fantastic!!!
Simply the best endgame ever
That Bishop slid in and out like a SNAKE. >-~-~
I always come back for 22:27, definitely the most beautiful chess game I've ever seen and I've seen a lot.
Clear , concise and to the point !!!
A comment I once read on the position after 40...g6: "It's sad and ironic. Black's queenside pawns are all on dark squares, and that's bad because it means White's king can penetrate through them. On the other hand, Black's kingside pawns are all on light squares, and that's bad too, because they're permanent targets for White's bishop."
This channel and Chessnetwork are probably the best for in-depth analysis. Analysis by Peter Svidler is also a treat.
Agreed. Also, Anna Rudolf's AlphaZero analyses are superb.
Absolute master class
Excellent comentry by super commentator
The beginning of the R+ minors ending so much reminds me of Carlsen: Black basically already pressed the " I lose" button, even though he may only be worse.
However, in Fischer`s times, this was still quite a novelty.
As noted by many Russian analysts, ...b6, was a major mistake. Mark should have ignored the threat to pawn b7 (and protect pawn c5 only) as there was Rb8 reply if B:b7.
Excellent commentary, Mr. King.
It's hard to spot taimanov's mistakes. Fischer was simply playing in another league.
That said, rook and bishop vs rook and knight is usually a big advantage for the former.
Wow! Absolutely incredible endgame technique. I really enjoyed this vid. Thanx a bunch, Daniel :-)
I recently bought the book Dan. I now know it must have a higher priority on my reading list. 👌
One of my favourite endgames. Typical Fischer - makes it look so easy! Cheers for going through it, Danny.
Death Star Bishop - radiates scary power in all directions!
Thank for this instructive video. So much learned in under 25 minutes. Fischer was a virtuoso in the endgame good bishop against bad knight. By the way, what about a "knightmare bishop"?
“Stingray Bishop”, as coined by GM D. King in a previous video.... 😉
Did I? I'd forgotten!
Has a decisive error been found? If I remember correctly, Polugaevsky criticized h6-h5 for positioning the pawn on white. But is it at all possible to clearly prove the losing move?
Love h3 like a predator waiting for its prey to move, the book Russians v Fischer is a fantastic read.
The people that disliked this video are confirmed living relatives of Taimanov........
I just saw the new version of the book russians vs fischer in everyman chess books in their web page if somebody is interested
Great stuff Daniel, many thanks :)
Seriously excellent video, GM King; thank you so much.
Balletic Bishop, perhaps? Certainly was in Fischer's masterful hands.
Fischer really knew how to use Bishops better than any other player I have seen in history.
The very best players are all endgame virtuosos. This was an impressive example. Not a single move wasted, and everything timed perfectly.
I did a computer analysis of this game. The computer had this game a DRAW! Taimanov missed a draw on move 22. When Fischer had his Queen take Taimanov's Rook to put Taimanov's KIng in check the computer had Taimanov move his King to C8 instead of moving his Queen to D7. This game then resulted in a DRAW!
HERE ARE THE MOVES BY THE COMPUTER STARTING WITH FISCHER'S 22ND MOVE:
22. Qxd1+ Kc8
23. Re5 Rd8
24. Qe1 Kb8
25. h3 Qd6
26. Re7 Rd7
27. Rxd7 Qxd7
28. Qe5+ Qc7
29. Qe3 Qd6
30. Kh2 h5
31. b3 g6
32. c4 Kc8
33. a3 b6
34. Qf3 h4
35. gxh4 Kd8
36. Kh1 Nh5
37. Qb7 Qd1+
38. Kh2 Qxb3
39. Qd5+ Ke7
40. Qe5+ Kd7
41. Qd5+ Ke8
42. Qe5+ Kf8
43. Qh8+ Ke7
44. Qe5+ Kf8
45. Qh8+ Ke7
46. Qe5+ {Game over: Draw by 3-fold repetition.}
Sure, computers draw all the time, but human chess is way more interesting.
The bishop is a slashing piece, the rook is like a bulldozer. since Fisher was playing a Soviet GM. Maybe we could call Fisher's rook a hammer and his bishop a sickle
I think the name should be archbishop.

CZcams subtitles are funny. Mark Time on off 😂😂😂
Er spielt so einfach
Wonderful..more of the same please!
amazing. i would have had high blood pressure too...possibly a stroke or heart attack.
How about calling it a Fischer Bishop -- the light-squared White bishop was always Fischer's favorite piece
Spider Bishop
Speechless agreed,, Supreme movement
10:50 maybe "inquisitor bishop", or "the policeman".
what about a starfish?
Would an engine hold the endgame?
"Midnight Express" bishop
The Laser Bishop
The Cardinal.... and Taimanov's knight was a donkey.
lighthouse bishop
At 3:51 can someone explain to me why the black bishop didn't take the rook before trading the bishop?
It's not an octopus but a "Starfish", to stay with the see related animals.
Dear GM King, of course it is a 'Spanish-inquisition' bishop!
Spider bishop, I would say
Sorry but there was so much "what if" "let's try this" "a stronger defensive move" that it was heard to differentiate between the actual game and the imagined games. I like "what ifs" but not what they overwhelmingly dominate.
"Bright bishop" as u might say
SNIPER BISHOP!
It seems that 24. ... b6 was a blunder already
That was no bishop, at least a cardinal, if not the pope himself - as it was the white one - white smoke!
Listen to the birds in the background.
Starfish Bishop?
Badger Bishop
Starfish Bishop
32. f5 Rd8 doesn't work because of 33. Bc6+ Kc8 34. Bb7+
👏😎
Binocular bishop
Scissor Bishop
i call this a "good bishop" :) knights seem rarely as useful.
Just Karpov had real chances against Fischer...
It is very boring from an enerpreitor.
At the end of the game, it's amazing.
Too many ads on this one
Fischer took this Russian to school!
Squeezing squid bishop
The Deacon Bishop ?
