      A quack doctor named Geoffrey Diamond took Keith away by giving him a large supply of hemineverin to take home. Hemineverin should always be taken under careful supervision in hospital. Drinking on it is fatal. Keith was drinking on it, & had taken 32 capsules the day he died. Dr Diamond should have lost his license and gone to jail.

    What amazes me is how extremes either sides of the spectrum can be when it comes to drumming talent. Keith played virtuosically, and he had the most powerful, rich sound I’ve ever heard, and this for me was where his magic lied. He had little of the complex, extremely technical rhythm work that people like Stewart Copeland or Neil Peart embodied, but then he didn’t need it. Out of extremely simple drum beats, he created a soul that not a single person in history was ever able to replicate. Thank God he existed for the world to enjoy, even if only for a short time🤩🤩🤩

    One of the thngs that always amazes me about Keith Moon's drum tracks is that you know there is nobody else who would play/interpret the songs like he did. I would love to hear Bonham or Peart on classic Who tracks if they were the drummer the song was handed to. I am sure they would have done a great job, but it would be nothing like Keith would play it. When you talk about true originals, he is on the very short list. Beyond thankful he was in The Who.

      @sinistregoth Před rokem +3

      Ive seen a coulpe of videos of Rush doung WHO covers, i seem to recall The Seeker... and tbh, though i admit im no musician or have a great understanding of the technicalities , Neil's drumming didnt have any of the contained chaotic urgency and beauty of Keiths- Im sure he def wasnt trying to copt Keith, but would say his take was much less exciting

    • @jongawel4589
      @jongawel4589 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@sinistregoth Neil was really inspired by Keith in his early years. As he got older, he found that he preferred a more deliberate, disciplined approach to the drums than Keith had, but the theatrical fills in his style have their roots in his love for Keith and The Who.

    Love the 1973 pic, gives a good overview of the drumkit.
    It was with quadrophenia that his sound introduced the single headed toms to the lineup, and this recording uses them well. The outer row added was four of these (later expanded to six). What is so fantastic is how the monster adapted other music to use the hollowed out sound of these single headed along with the doubles. If you listen to the 1973 philly live, summertime blues, my wife, my generation, wont get fooled again.... all have the right amount of this expanded sound added in. If you listen to the 1974 sparks from the tommy movie, the monster comes through in spades.... again having adapted the sound of the extended kit to older music. In all cases you could tell he felt it.... it was incredible.

      @sloprun The pic is 73 based on a few things: 4 concert toms (only 73 and 74, later used 6), dec 73 he smashed his kit and replaced it with gold shells. As these aren't gold, they must be the earlier ultra deep blue its nearly black. The two together says 73.

    @brianchristian7293 Před 2 lety +1

    His absolute peak. While I am a big fan of Kenney, I can see why Roger felt there was too much dead air in the songs after Keith died. I think Pete's impulse to replace Keith with a traditional/conventional drummer like Kenney was really more a reaction to Keith's increasingly erratic and unreliable behavior. I think he rationalized a lot to justify the decision for musical reasons. On the plus side, the Who continuing meant they were introduced to a whole new audience, including me, that kept things going until, well, now.

    • @mikechapmanmedia2291
      @mikechapmanmedia2291 Před 2 lety +1

      Adding Kenney made Pete a better guitarist, because he could stretch out and not have to worry about keeping time. OTOH, so much of The Who’s music was monstrous because Keith and John filled any gaps with a wall of sound. Kenney and Simon Phillips and especially Zak were/are terrific, but when John died the Who sound finally died with him.

    • @jongawel4589
      @jongawel4589 Před 6 měsíci

      Pete decided to bring Kenney in because he was a respected drummer with a couple of decades of experience who had known The Who well for many years. I'm sure he also wanted a drummer that would bring his vision to life in a more disciplined way, rather than have the music take him where it may.
