      JM the hums are Lollar low wind Imperials quite low output and also I have them set very low away from the strings.

    Hey Tim, beautiful playing as always. Your chord improv course was the missing piece of the puzzle for my solo guitar to really start flowing :)
    Also, do you know if the changes for the Ray Charles version the original ones or did he modify them a little? After transcribing it I looked at some charts and there's some differences between them.

  • @shallyshal1
    @shallyshal1 Před 5 lety +5

    Just another gem.. Beautiful playing, lovely melodic lines.. Those HB's sound rich and full.. Thanks so much for sharing... How low can you tune that Tele down and still retain the tone you want?

    • @crimfan
      @crimfan Před 3 lety

      He's got a video on that, actually, going over how he sets up his guitars for low tuning.

    • @TimLerchGuitar
      @TimLerchGuitar  Před 5 lety +1

      I prefer fender CustomShop Nocasters (closet classics) from 2000 or 2001.

  • @georgemack418
    @georgemack418 Před 3 lety +2

    Love this version. How much is "pre-thought" and how much is improv? Is this balance typical of the way you divide a number?

    • @TimLerchGuitar
      @TimLerchGuitar  Před 3 lety

      I have a basic idea about how the melody can be harmonized. But I have been playing the tune for years and have lots of options and of course there is an improvisational aspect as well.

  • @dknuttunen
    @dknuttunen Před 4 měsíci +1

    Love the sound. Wonder how this tuning would work in a combo setting (more single-note solos, and comping)? One of the problems THIS amateur runs into is staying out of the way of the bass and piano, so lowering the tuning seems iffy. But maybe with Drop 4 chords on the treble strings? I have a Steinberger Transcale with a D-standard tuning that I used to use mostly as a travel/practice guitar, and I did love the sound, which I characterized as "growly".

    • @TimLerchGuitar
      @TimLerchGuitar  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I tend to use this lowered tuning only in a solo guitar setting or when I’m accompanying a singer, for all of the reasons you mentioned .

    Do you have to readjust the action to tune down a half step. Love your playing and I own all of your Truefire courses.

    • @TimLerchGuitar
      @TimLerchGuitar  Před 3 lety

      This one is tuned down a minor 3rd (3 half steps) so I set it up so it works for a whole step down or another 1/2 step. The strings are 14-59

    • @TimLerchGuitar

      Neck and middle together, both pickups are set very low in relationship to the strings. Tone and volume are full up. Amp is a Princeton reverb.
