The amount of people that claim this will explode in your hand like it was made by Michael bay is hilarious. Thanks for putting quality information out there. Loved to see that in a range video.

Japanese officers had to purchase their own pistol until sometime in 1943 and I don't think 94s and 14s were available for them to purchase. Those were reserved for NCOs and MG crews and the like. 94s tended to be issued to pilots and tankers. That's probably why you don't see many.

Indeed, another reason is the Type 94 was in a sense limited in production for the mass produced pistols of Japan (about 74k), of course, not including the rarer early Nambus. Couples with situations like you said, along with the post-war scraping and melting, while not particular scarce, definitely not as common as the Type 14, which had been in production since the 20s.

Great video! One of my favorite channels. I found one of these at a pawn shop a year ago. Thankfully Steinel makes ammo for it. It’s a pleasure to shoot. I recently have got into Japanese Milsups after finding one of the Chinese 7.62x39 converted Type 38’s. Now I’m in the hunt for a Last Ditch Type 99’s and a Type 14. Gun show this weekend, fingers crossed 🤞🏽

The field-strip/reassembly part of this video is very valuable.
    30:37 Heh, that rhymes.
Message from Boomer Fudd... "I noticed you didn't compare muzzle energy to .45 acp. Granted, it wouldn't be fair considering .45 acp muzzle energy is measured in Kilotons instead of ft-lbs."

Whenever I got mine the springs in it were super weak. After I put some Wolff springs in it I haven't had any issues with it. Ammo is pricey but I'll admit it's a fun gun with the sear bar

Yes, it is an ugly pistol. Does feel surprisingly good in the hand though. As yet, it has not proven as adept at breaking firing pins as my Type 14. I second your recommendation of the Derby & Brown book. Well worth it for those interested in such things.

Does yours have an issue with the disconnector? Something seems worn with mine and once in awhile the disconnector doesn't disconnect. That in and of itself is a super wonky camming system that honestly shouldn't have left the drawing board

I've watched a few videos (older and newer), and, respectfully and constructively, I would recommend a script. It would save you from the excessive "um" and "you know" when searching for your pace. This would also save video time and allow you to impart the information without the risk of losing anyone to the "get to the point" snap. Again, this is meant to be constructive, because I think the content is great.
