things that make me mad about San Myshuno apartments: not being able to remove the tlc trait from the best apartment in the whole world
exactly 😭
And fix the landing areas and the giant walls.
you're talking about the one with the balcony, right?
Yes! I was secrety hoping for them to add/move the tlc trait as a lot challenge with the CoL update
There used to be a mod for that but I think it's not supported anymore
I have literally attempted renovating this apartment five times and always end up crying with a tray of oreos next to me for comfort. It’s tragic.
yk same
Honestly same
Same, I tried to furnish it once and began to cry because it was making me so stressed akskdkdkdkd
Same I became stressed
Literally 💀. Like whenever I start removing the furniture and see how big it is I just opt out
Next video should be Kayla furnishing this apartment however she wants just to see how much stuff is needed to make it look good.
Omg yes!
She needs*
Yes! I know she was trying to prove a point in this video Bc it makes sense, but I kept thinking “just increase your budget it’s the sims!!” 😂
Yes please!
didnt she make one before? i might remember wrong
To the Sims team: Simsie misspoke when she begged you to make the apartments smaller. What we believe she meant to say was this:
*”Please, please, let us build custom apartments like in the Sims 3. There’s absolutely no reason we shouldn’t be able to bulldoze an entire floor of an apartment building and make it into a penthouse and, to the other extreme, there’s absolutely no reason we shouldn’t be able to divide an entire floor of an apartment building up into 20 different units.”*
But in sims 3 only one apartment in each building was playable, the rest were just wormholes. To me sims 4 was a big improvement when it came to apartments, I always thought it was so annoying that I couldn’t visit my neighbours in sims 3. It was nice to be able to build new apartments from scratch though, we had so much more power in change world when it was an open world.
@@Cllocopine Then The Sims 2 is the game to be inspired by. You could build the whole apartment building (or trailer park, or cul-de-sac, or whatever you want to rent), you could customize it however you want, you could play up to 4 families in one apartment building (and if you haven't moved in anyone it would spawn neighbors), you could visit your neighbors. It's all been done already back in 2008 in The Sims 2 Apartment Life, without the limitations Sims 3 and 4 had.
@@PotatoAsh Sounds like it should've been possible in Sims 4 if in theory it's closed-world (ignore the semi-open neighborhoods for a moment) and they eventually added the roommates system (even if that's kind of meh compared to what Sims 2 presumably had.) I get that the devs were trying to make 4 more accessible but we're like 30 packs in and major gaming computers are already randomly lagging with everything installed. I think the Sims 4 just has terrible optimization and they scrambled everywhere they could to plug the holes to no avail.
Loved apartments in The Sims 2. Sometimes I made duplexes so siblings could live next to each other. One time, I put all of one sims mistresses in one apartment complex, so his kids would grow up together, but it separate households.
YES I want a tiny 20x20 studio but also a massive 5 bedroom penthouse
Imagine being 9 and waking up in the middle of the night to see Blarffy, in the corner of your absurdly large room, illuminated by the moonlight.
Blarffy is amazing. I put him in all of my kid rooms.
I've been scared by less. Anything roughly human shaped or sized in a dark room, like a pile of laundry, spooks me for some reason
@@limiv5272 I hanged my jacket with the cap above it once, and later on, the shadow it made scared me for life xD
Blarffy. Aka Sleep Paralysis Bear🤧
Probably sizing everything up would make this apartment look somehow closer to reality
omg how is that so true
@@DragonbornCanid lol I know right, EA did kind of a bad job here
honestly, blowing this building up would make it somehow look better
@@valeriag2842 yeah, i kinda feel as though it would work better as sort of loft type apartment??
@@DragonbornCanid yeah maybe that would split the spaces a bit, like filling a part with platforms and forgetting about it lol
i think we gotta let Kayla renovate this apartment without a budget. I think adding platforms and a new (fake) front door would help. Maybe even splitting it into two apartments.
I really think she didnt give herself enough of a budget, i mean, the high walls, the size of the apartment, the furniture costs ... 18k is too little tbh
Us: *just want better,normal things*
EA: Sooo...giant walls?
that’s always ea’s mindset 😭
Always.
the bigger the better

EA literally didn’t *think* when they made the apartments, with their large walls and nonsensical furniture placement.
Yeah, even the most expensive apartments dont have ceilings THAT high
Imagine the heating and cooling bills irl with ceilings that high.
Shit not even cathedrals have walls that high 😭
and the very odd colour choices
Their whole purpose was wanting to use those massive windows, and nothing else mattered.
I think you just have to get away from thinking about a family home. I decorated it with a DJ/music producer in mind. There was a big room with the music production equipment and DJ thing along with a dance floor and bar. They had a good size bedroom, a bathroom with a separate shower and tub, and a small room that worked as a walk in closet in addition to the living room, dining room, and kitchen area. There was also another bathroom for guests/visitors.
Love that idea! :D
I use this apartment for a 3 person family, one of the mums is an actress so theres a big corner space for skill building (piano, violin, guitar, microphone) and then the other mum is a graphic designer so shes got an office with an easel, painting clutter and a large desk space, then the kid has a big room with loads of toys and a large desk, and the kitchen has both a bar and 6 seat dining table and theres a spacious living room too, so it's about 4 rooms with two bathrooms
Why does no one like the large apartments? Honestly I absolutely love these and making them luxurious and stuff because of the size. But also i don’t think it fits for a starter home, especially because a starter home doesn’t make sense being this big...
i like these apartments in the right context! but its killer to work on honestly, i made a cool immortal lady and gave her this apartment because i figured she would of been there for years and years. but when i tried to decorate it? it was Hell, it takes so long to decorate and the layout in general is AWFUL. how the walls are cut along with the hight means any time you play on it you have to do either no walls or only the outdoor walls. but yeah its NOT good as a starter lol
I agree, but I do wish there was more smaller apartments...only like 6 ones are small or normal sized and the rest are super large
I liked renovating it. I didn't have any issues doing it, but then I prefer to build larger houses because I always run out of space to put things in smaller spaces because the objects in the game are just so oversized. It was nice being able to build somewhere where you don't have to size down the bedside tables to make them look normal sized within a room.
I didn't really make it all that luxurious, and using custom content helped keep the cost lower so I was able to make the whole thing still work out as a starter home price. Sometimes I think the only reason Kayla prefers smaller builds is because she doesn't actually have the imagination to place a sensible amount of clutter/objects. Its like she's stuck using mostly the base game and only one or two other packs even though she has access to them all. She could have had a small gym/yoga area, or an office and that would have taken up space.
Build idea: "fix" an apartment or house in the sims ONLY by furnishing. That means you can't delete or change any walls; it's the new shell challenge!
dream home decorator would like a word 😭
@@adelesamson5126 😄😄
yeah that’s what i always want it to be when i watch a video like this
The apartments in Eco Living are SO MUCH BETTER. They’re actually a realistic size and i’ve even been able to fit like 5 sims in there 😭
One of them is broken
@@delobster7711 you mean the balcony?
The balcony is inaccessible because the building itself changes with the modern development plan you vote on which is the aim of the pack.
@@demidalle-molle9258 Yeah, was about to say the same if they meant that the balcony was broken :)
it’s for sure unfortunate but it’s understandable why!
@@jaqsre I don't think it's understandable, that's like saying if would've been okay for part of the community lot to be unusable just because voting changes the building. It's just EA being lazy again
Kayla: that is not a lot of money left when you buy this apartment
Kayla's starter home in snowy escape: *exists*
but at least it looks good lol
Why don't you make it like Japanese house inspired "split level"? Like the flooring is lower only on the entrance, then you can use platform for the rest of the build?
That is what I was thinking! She could have made the main level of the apartment on a taller platform and had a staircase that led to the front door. This would have fixed the problem of the tall wall height
Windows too low
Yeah! I ended up doing that with this apartment, because I didn't like the wall height and it worked quite well.
@@reneelefebvre2612 and also filled some of the space with unneccesary stairs
@@nell-mariikappa5387 I'd be willing to live with the windows touching the floor, it would still be an improvement in this case
guys i'm gonna be honest... this apartment is actually one of my favorites in san myshuno.. i know it's pretty big and a struggle to work with but I think that's what I personally love so much about it. i love the windows, especially since we didn't get tall square windows until snowy escape and these almost looked square due to the wall height, though I won't argue that their placement is weird. simsie i loved the way you decorated this apartment! the swatch you picked for the rug in the living room was really cute :')
Kayla: is it possible to furnish this apartment as a starter home and have it look good?
Me already: no lol
Hey nice name
Please renovate this again with no budget, I think this apartment has really good potential 💗💗💗
I really wish you would've put the kitchen on a platform, the walls wouldn't be so awkwardly tall above the counters and stairs fill the empty space well too, tbh this apartment is perfect for platforms with these short "bathroom" windows (put a platform in and it doesn't need to be a bathroom anymore!)
Ironically enough, this is my favorite apartment in the game and my favorite one to play in/build in for the exact reasons Kayla hates it: it’s too big.
The only thing that bugs me is the wall height.
The rest? I really love it because it allows me to make multiple layouts and I can always create a nice open floor plan with this one but it also allows to create a more closed one. I don’t know I just love this apartment soooo much and so many people hate it :/
I'm with you, I actually love that the apartment is huge and love all of the open space. I always move my sims in this apartment.
You should have made the floorplan first before setting your simoleons to 18000 I feel like that would have been more realistic. All of the walls dropped your budget dramatically
Walls are VERY expensive in the sims.
literally I went full glam and since the living space was too big I decided to build a pool in this apartment lol it was crazy but I had so much fun
Super interesting, for me this is one of my most loved apartments! Coming from Germany, I absolutely adore these high walls and people here pay more money to live in older buildings with higher walls because most of us consider them very pretty :D
bestie your outro is literally “berries and cream” and i love it
yeah lol
My besties are all in my uni's rugby club and last week, their club hw was to learn the berries and cream little lad dance. That was my introduction to berries and cream. And now it's everywhere. It occupies my thoughts 24/7. Help.
When I was little mummy made me do the little lad dance
*now mummys gone*
berries and cream tiktok follows me everywhere i stg
What are you talking about
I actually leave the original layout alone, changes the kitchen wall to a half wall and just redecorating to look more comfy & cosy like an actual home. And the large bedroom, it's good to nest 4 kids & their study area, I even threw in 3 computer sets in the kids' bedroom too.
Simsieee nooooo this has always been my fav apartment to play in I can’t handle the slander
I love this one and the cute cheap on with the chalk outline under the rug? You know the one. And I actually just made this one to fit a 5 person family with a cat and I'm really proud of itt it looks so cute
i wish i had my old sims save game with this apartment i loved it so much, i would spend hours in this lot
Tall walls are very common in older apartments and luxury apartments here in NYC--i actually appreciate it
I don't know if they are this tall though, this wall height in sims makes most furniture look ridiculously tiny
@@mrmr4622 oh walls are massive here. And i definitely feel like these were the designers intention when putting this apartment together, very much like condos and lofts here in the city
@@mrmr4622 I used to live in an old flat in London and Vienna and the walls were insanely high in both. It’s really nice.
Me too, I especially love them on the bottom floor in a two floor apartments!!!
I lived in an old house in Hamburg with these high walls and it was beautiful, but in real life you always see everything from eye level, not from a birds perspective like in the sims
I never thought of this apartment as a starter, more of one where my Sims move to when they're either about to start having children or have had them. It's just too big for a starter!
I know I am probably the odd one out here but I actually like this apartment's size, though I do usually rearrange things, including the walls.
I used to *love* the San Myshuno apartments, but now comparing them to the Eco Lifestyle ones, they're too big!
I once made this apartment into 4 separate ones. It's definitely too big.
omg this might be the first time that the original house was better than her renovation
I like her renovation, it has personality to it and the colourful decorating makes it feel warmer than the original.
NEW CHALLENGE IDEA: Decorate the cheapest lot in game only using the most expensive items, and decorate the most expensive lot with only the cheapest items.
HELL YEAH
City Living pack refresh where they just fix the giant walls, because that'll make this 100000x better
Renovating these apartments are a lot easier if you use the platform tool, that way you can give the illusion of short walls
@Freja Lindberg I meant raise all floors besides some space in front of the front door so they are all the same hight throughout the apartment. Ive seen a lot of cheaper apartments in real life that have a step up at the front door
The coffee table's placement still haunts me to this day!
Haunts?
@@Overused_Toothbrush thanks for correcting didn't realise it while writing
The coffee table shape too, like why does it look like that??
@@seratoninme1470 np
I renovated that apartment with a big kitchen and island, 2 bathrooms, 1 bedroom, a gym and kinda big furniture, a dancefloor and a bar because it was like a young city couple (an athlete and an influencer) so they organized parties all the time. Of course it wasn't a starter and you have to forget about the height of the walls, but surely is possible
I've found that adding platforms really helps break up the space in this apartment! it also helps to create a loft with platforms up where the really short window is :)
@Freja Lindberg I actually liked that apartment. The window placement and not getting to move them sucks, but its really easy to creating a pleasing floor plan even with that. I used it as a starter apartment for my sim and just got roommates to fill the other rooms so it made sense having an open plan living space (enough space for everyone to communally use). Though I did use custom content because the ea stuff is way overpriced.
This apartment is one of my fav actually, cos it technically costs 23k but doesn’t charge you cos of the outside walls. What I do is put two bedroom at the back and two on the other side at the far left, then a study where the living room was then in the middle I put the kitchen on the wall of the study to the right hand then living room in the center, if that makes sense. I like it cos it is near the festival, it’s cheap and for a starter home I don’t furnish 3 rooms, I save them so I can get better appliances and more furniture, then once I have money and the kids I furnish the other rooms.
I actually like big apartments. I think it's realistic, there are a lot of big apartments 🤷♀️ and some studios (1 bedroom or none). I like having some variety.
well i dunno where you got that bc for me most apartments that are "starter apartments," are really small and cramped
@@whos_rei I don't agree with the prices of the game, but I like the fact that there are different sizes.
@@whos_rei in college a lot of my friends had four bedroom four bathroom apartments where they just shared kitchen and living room. they were really big and priced reasonably but made for 4 adults not a family or single person
I think it really depends on where you are like in a big city like San myshuno you would see a lot more smaller Apartments and some higher-end apartments which would be like one or two bedrooms but if you live in a small town like I do then you'd see bigger Apartments
I live in a tiny flat(British for apartment), and like all other flats I've been in are also tiny, so the big ones in the Sims to me is not realistic at all. But it's interesting to see that someone thinks the other way I do!
I actually love that apartment. I typically take the closet part of the one room into a bathroom. I close the weird kitchen wall and make it a half wall. I typically put sims with a decent amount of cash there though.
The Size doesn't bug me. It bugs me that you can't rebuild and change them how you want to. Like the walls and windows, door, etc
I mean it makes sense, you can't move doors and windows around in a real apartment too
@@mrmr4622 yeah, but it's the sims. I should be able to do that with a cheat, at least.
I renovated this apartment so many times ngl it’s probably my favorite to renovate because it makes me think outside the box.
I’m using this apartment for my Twin Vampires™️ household! It’s massive and I redid it, and I actually like it!
you should make a wishlist of "what do you want in the sims 5"
...just to make sure EA don't mess up things :3
What do I want? The Sims Two with better graphics and more skin tones, but with the same gentics, because I want genetics to matter and I want a surprise blond kid, because his great-grandfather was blond and a surprise redhead because her grandmother was a redhead, but their parents (these two are siblings) are both black haired, because their other grandparents were black haired (well, one’s brown haired, but his dad’s where the blond genetics came from). This is what I want for the The Sims 5.
Yes! I’ve been renovating so many apartments lately, this gave me lots of ideas!
I absolutely love this apartment, because its cheap and has a lot of space for a growing family. I use it a lot xD
I always find it crazy how you can get a nice and large apartment in a tall highrise for so little in the sims
fix for the too tall walls: split levelling! I used stairs and higher up rooms in that apartment, and it takes up space AND it takes up wall space. Looks way better, even kind of modern :D
This is where the TOOL mod shines - I get to move the apartment windows and main doors to where I want them
Hey Kayla! I have a video idea… you could make a video about what to do if you’re bored in your save file. Thanks! (btw i love the apartment you renovated in this video :)
Wait omg yes that would help us
@@14skoppy I NEED IT 😃
What exactly do you mean by that tho?
@@mrmr4622 When you get bored while playing and you need more ideas on what to do
I once renovated this lot for 3 bedrooms and saved it as a room for the gallery, and I use that layout every time. it's definitely possible!
The thing I hate about this apartment specifically: they wanted to give us a kitchen with a window, legit a window, where you could sit and eat but still have wall above to decorate and such. And instead of programming that in somehow, giving us half walls from ceiling to ground instead of only ground to ceiling, giving us the option of opening a section on the wall that sims can interact through, WHATEVER, they just put that freaking floating cabinet that makes no sense and some islands between 2 walls and it looks terrible.
Yes it’s possible but you’ll need a bigger budget
You could split it up into "separate" units. Make it seem like two separate apartments with a hall in the center. Then "rent" the other "unit" out to your roommates. In game. Could make it cooler looking. But probably wouldn't be a starter at that point.
I may actually have to try that as a build come to think of it. I haven't lived in the city since before roommates were a thing.
Love how she posts like everyday 🤍
She should do a Pancakes Legacy challenge.
I decided to play in an apartment in the Sims. The bathroom was just so, oddly massive? I tried to rebuild with two bedrooms and a smaller bathroom. And I couldn't fix it for the life of me. I've been trying to renovate the dorms and I'm feeling the same way. The rooms are just so big!
I have the reverse issue. Most of the sims stuff is too small, except for the furniture which is too large (like the bedside tables are massive compared to the beds). I tend to like to make bathrooms a minimum of 3x4. I just don't like playing the game in such tiny spaces its hard to see what's going on.
I love watching your videos when I’m playing❤
i love this apartment so much! it’s so cheap so i just put sooo much furniture in it and make it super personalized for my sims
i think if she used other packs it'd be easier, base game and earlier packs stuff are so expensive for no reason
Yeah, she's got this idea stuck in her head that she can only use the base game plus a couple of packs because she's thinking she's building for people who will download the houses from the gallery and doesn't want people to not be able to have it because they're missing packs, but most people just want to watch her build and decorate (I see so many comments from people saying she should build with no budget/pack restrictions more). When she does actually give herself free reign she creates really interesting things. When she doesn't its just the exact same grey suburban (I'm sorry, but the colour of the panelling she uses is way too washed out to count as blue, its grey).
When that apartment still looks better than your builds-
I'm watching this at a hospital bed, these videos are really entertaining!
I love this apt!! I've managed to figure out some really cool layouts
Sure the wall height isn't ideal, but the space gives you a lot to play around with! I add vents/pipes to make it rusty and smaller
Sometimes EA try to interesting things when they build but a lot of them, like the weird museum with the alternating, giant, triangle roof, they fall flat
Short answer: no

i love your content kayla!
ok but this apartment saved my life on my scientist playthrough! i made half of it into a lab, and then accidentally created a chicken with the simsray and had room for a chicken coop too! we didn't have to move out until my sims started having kids!
The finished product bestie- 😬
I get ur point tho
Oof. This apartment... is... I think unsalvageable. Sorry, Simsie.
Tbh this is probably my favorite apartment in San Myshuno. Aside from the weird kitchen it's actually pretty easy to play in. Although I do usually end up changing the smallest bedroom into a study because I never have enough sims to put in all those rooms.
This apartment is so hard to renovate. When I did I spent 60,000 and it ended up a four bedroom three bathroom apartment that could technically sleep 8 sims. A had a open air office with 2 desks a dining area a huge kitchen and living room and by the time I was done there was still enough empty space to make me cry.
anyone else hate that you cant some of the lot traits in apartments?? 😭 some of them are so annoying
i would if i could even HAVE apartments

can you please remake this apartment with unlimited money
In one save I used TOOL to add another door and another mailbox outside and drew a wall through the middle, both doors works for visiting etc.
In another save I also divided it and then raised the split level as high as it will go on one side and then used the flooring that matches the one that hide the neighbors’ apartments, instantly more usable.
Omg I re-did this apartment this week and struggled!! I had to start over sooo many times until I made a floor plan I felt was decent enough
IM EARLY EARLY HEYYYYYYY

Good for you mate
nice
Idea if you make that middle line you kept wanting with a little hallway in front leading to a full apartment so it's like two separate apartments and each side just gets a budget of 20,000
This apartment I find fun yet challenging to decorate. I find platforms are my friend with this apartment, using them helps with the massive walls and large space issue.
I made this apartment with two lofted bedrooms, a yoga/workout studio, a large living/entertainment area and a centered kitchen. It took me a while to figure out the layout but I absolutely love the tall walls and big windows. I went with a modern feel and made it a future move apartment for an athlete and yoga teacher. I think eventually I’ll have painting/photography as a side gig so the walls will be full of large murals/paintings/photography.
Not really a starter place unless you don’t utilize a room until you increase the household size/activities in the long term.
Although, in real life I live in a 1 bedroom apartment that is big enough that our king sized bed fits fine in the living area and currently the bedroom is an easy access storage for all the extra stuff we don’t use as often and the punching bag/ extra closet space.
The thing is.. i really enjoy starting in a big place, idc if it's almost empty because during my playthrough, i'm gonna fill it up myself :)
I don't want a perfect looking apartement/house, fully furnished and decorated.. that, kind of, takes the fun out of it !
I played in this apartment before. I had two bedrooms and a bathroom over by where you had the kitchen/bedroom, and a workout room with a basketball court and a bathroom over on the other end of the apartment. For the rest, I had a kitchen near the bedrooms, a dining table near that, and a slightly sunken living room to help define the space better
i JUST moved in into that apartment with my current sims and didnt fix it for now and logged off and now im convinced little simsie is watching my every move
I did this one and used platforms to add separation. It turned out really cool. The platforms definitely help.
For the window glitch in the apartments you can use the recolor tool thing next to the eyedropper tool instead of grabbing the window. I hope this helps!
I always start with this apartment and renovate it. With some simple changes you can make it into a really nice space. Although it takes forever to cross from one side to the other.
I absolutely loved styling this apartment! I've made tons of different styles, my favorite was the kind of boho/hipster college student vibe one
I would be interested to see you do this same apartment build without a budget or pack restrictions and maybe even some cc! Love your builds ❤️

This is one of my favourite appartments in SM... It's like a proper practical family house size in an apartment... I've re designed this one a couple of times. I just wish I could change the windows.
having flashbacks to when i renovated this place and random panels of the floor and walls in the part where kayla put the kitchen were glitched so i couldnt change them and the platforms wouldnt work properly XD this apartment is truly cursed
i gave this apartment a complete makeover because i had 4 roommates and needed a place where they could stay, i kinda transformed it into a kind of artsy hipster type of loft with brick walls, it looks really good imo
I once turned this into 3 apartments for a legacy challenge. One studio, one one bedroom, and one two bedroom. It was actually really fun to play in and decorate.
I frequently use this as a starter apartment for my Sims. When I do though usually I am starting out moving a family in, so the amount of simoleons I have to furnish it and build it are higher than what you used. That helps a lot!
