I could be wrong, probably am, but it looks like it basically flipped shackles. Essentially giving your trailer a temporary lift kit, until one of the shackles flip hitting a bump. I had a trailer that did that. It had one axle that would be off the ground until I hit a bump and it went back to normal.
When you pick up the trailer like that, your spring shackles go over-centre. The same thing can happen when driving over rough terrain or over a curb. Both shackles must be under tension with the spring above the equalizer to which both springs are attached. It looks like your hitch height is about 4 inches too high.
When you pick thise trailers up like that the shackles will go the opposite way they're supposed to making the trailer not sit right. I've had that happen to me don't know if that's what you may have going on. Weak leaf spring Maybe Maybe.

Oh he’s gunna come back and say “What overhead?! It’s all paid for!” He doesn’t realize it’s still overhead. He cashed in his retirement money to build a shed to store equipment that just sits there. Really dumb move because it was all just a CZcams flex. Equipment that can easily make $5000 a day but he gets on his little lawn mower for $800.

Yes it protects the cylinder form being stepped on. Over time the cylinder will bend down if stepped on continuously.
