    I noticed you didn't season the new grates before cooking on them, that's why the meat stuck to the grates. A liberal coating of avocado oil on the grates, get them up to 500 degrees and swab them again with oil again while they're hot then let them cool down a bit would season them and keep the meat from sticking. Makes cleaning them up easier as well.

    One suggestion: season the Grill Grates like you would a cast-iron skillet, and always wipe any grates or racks with a little oil on a towel before putting the meat down. It'll reduce sticking/tearing.

    Grease fire doesn't mean "the whole thing is destroyed". I've been grilling for 20 years, my kids bicycle squirt bottle filled with water always sits by the grill, so simple, just don't squirt the food, just the flair up. Or just piss on it, I suppose.

    Looks like you already have cast Iron grates which should be great for searing but I can see how flame ups would still be a problem. I think people like me who just have a plain ol' Weber grill with cheap steel grates would have the most to benefit from this product. I've seen a few grills in store that actually come with grates similar to this built in. Thank you for the review Jack.

  • @tigerzero5216
    @tigerzero5216 Před 6 lety +3

    I understand the goal of the Grillgrates product. To provide an wide and even heat distribution on a surface for grilling food and at the same time shield the foods from flame flair ups and this test shows that. However it fails to prove which method results in more enjoyable food eating experience. Because! There was no management of the cooking. It was all time based. It would have been a far better test if two gas grills were used and you managed the cooking as it cooked to get the best results from both. THEN a taste test from both would be valid.

    The Grill Grate kept the meat further from the heat so it cooked more gently. Nothing surprising about that . You would have gotten the same result by turning the on the flames on one side of the grill and cooking on the opposite side of the grill. It is called indirect cooking but another real good video.

    Hey Jack! It was obvious that you needed a clean grill first. Your honestly is appreciated, but you should have ditched the whole video and started it over again properly. You probably also needed to season those Grill Grates, as well. Not sure if Grill Grates recommends that or not, but it's worth checking the manual.
    If anything was proved was you needed to follow directions. This video shouldn't be a knock against either the Weber grill (for the flare ups) or the Grill Grates, so it was primarily due to operator error. Better luck next time!

      +TC Mauldin I should have sprayed or oiled mine. I didn't and they still cleaned up nice. You can get them clean but the blackening still happens for me. yet smooth and clean. hope that helps

    Good thing you don't live in Canada, because it is illegal to have undercooked burgers in Canadian restaurants. But better safe than sorry, because apparently you get sick if you consume, under cooked meat.

    This review was basically useless. I’m sorry to say that I know nothing more about whether these grates are worth purchasing now than before watching this video.
    I like your channel but you missed the mark with this video.
