Focus on Art: Meet the Artist - Michelle Kumata

Michelle Kumata, a Japanese-American artist born and raised in Seattle; received a BFA in illustration from The School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her presentation will focus on exploring the Japanese diaspora, especially her family's history in Brazil, through exploring identities and the process of creating and preserving family stories through art. Her work has been exhibited at several locations throughout the Seattle area as well as in New York and at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.
