"What is the most basic thing You've ever had to explain to a client?" WELL He're's some background: I was the very first outsourced chat support representative for a VoIP Carrier based out of New Jersey. It was still fairly young but doing well. 6:08am, 8 minutes into my shift and across my screen I get the first customer of my shift: "Is my phone where I can use it?" ...It took every ounce of my being to not reply back "I dunno, is it?" So instead.. "From where you are sitting.. Can you reach the receiver?" And I get back: "No." So I reply "Then I would suggest you move it." At the end of it, I discovered the customer was 10 miles from home at a local library on one of THEIR computers trying to chat with me about fixing a VOIP Telephone adapter that wasn't even with her.. In a home with no internet. (The name of the company I was contracted for had '.com' in it, that would suggest internet, would it not? Especially when the only way to purchase it is ... oh, Online?) Moral of the story: If you're on a website who's business had '.com' in it, and you could only purchase the telephone service ONLINE to have a small square box sent to you so you could plug in an old POTS phone (That is an actual trade term for 'Plain Old Telephone System') to your internet router, MAKE SURE you have internet at home and actually look at every tiny detail of the webpage, especially the ones that say 'High Speed Internet Required' Since then, that company has changed its business model from Home and Individual service to more of a 'Small to Medium sized home business' model. I have not been contracted to this company since 2013, but boy I miss the crew. Except the customers like ^ That. I do not miss that. BUT that was customer service story of the year at work for 2012!
