    Been doing this for ages, if you use a luer lock syringe they are threaded on the end and you can screw the tube on. It's really secure. If you use a bigger syringe you can suck some gas out of the fermenter / keg and then that way you force all of the liquid out without air contamination.

    • @HomeBrewNetwork

My goal is to keep the original co2 during the whole process in the cola even when fermenting it to the delicious ale! My hole family will get that dark gold then! I hope I could change the light cola to be taste as nitrogen beer without even using the N2 during the whole process!

    What's your reasoning for clarifying in the keg instead of the fermenter before transferring?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před rokem +1

      Mostly just the need to mix it in, I like to do it after cold crash and then mixing it in will stir stuff up again, but yeah you can for sure. Another reason is its much easier to store kegs, like here i have 4 in a fridge, but if i was to keep the fermenters full for another 4 or 5 days then its a bigger problem and blocks my pipeline. Great video thanks! 2 questions. When keg conditioning one should add biofine to the beer after it’s done carbonating yea? And 2nd do we not have to worry about sanitation as much at this step? Thanks!

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 6 měsíci +1

      That is correct, although I am doing a study or experiment right now where you add the biofine at yeast pitch... but wont have the results for another week or so... So maybe in the future you'll be able to add it to the keg with the sugar as you carbonate! Once alcohol is in the beer sanitation isn't as important, of course you want everything to be clean. I would happily keg a beer in an un-sanitised keg if the keg was clean. Cheers!

    Thanks did this based on your video. on storage, the manufacturer says " Store in cool, dry conditions above 5°C and do not allow the product to freeze during transport or storage.", Wonder what's worst, below five or above 20? Do you find that without fining in the fermenter you get some hop crap clogging your connectors in the keg transfer?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Most breweries and people I know store it in the fridge and haven't had a problem. Make sure to shake it up before use. I don't use it to clear out hops its more a yeast and by products to drop out, cold crash does the hops fine. A good cold crash and don't be draining to the yeast cake.

    You mention at ~5:50 that you purged the keg with sodium metabisulphite. I've been purging by pushing Starsan from keg to keg but I'm looking for an alternative due to its oxidative properties. Can you re use your sodium metabisulphite solution over and over again or do you need to make it up fresh each time? How much do you use? Cheers!

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před rokem

      No you can't keep it, it's not good to store in kegs, no chemicals are really. You could reuse the water by adding some more I guess, but I wouldnt store it in a keg. SMB is cheap and you dont need much, if you control the amount you use the, like dont go crazy, the water will be fine to throw on the garden or something, it dissipates fairly quick Cheers!.

    Quick question to all the people in here and the Channel owner , how Come on the gas post on the keg there is no short stainless tube say to a 1/4 way down then keg to carbonate faster like on a sodastream machine maybe even with a carb stone attached to the tube or is this all ready a thing ?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před rokem

      The old story of having the gas pipe in the beer to carbonate faster is a bit of furphy, it doesn't make much difference at all. A carb stone does though, I guess it's the fact it's extra cost but mainly a touch harder cleaning and sanitising. Another great reason is to keep the end out of beer level so there's next to no chance of getting beer up your gas line which is a complete pain when it happens, usually means replacing the line or regulator/parts or dismantling your set up. Cheers!
