You can also merge pieces that have different variants together, for example the Deimos Wing pieces, by placing the piece into a place you want, changing between the variants and flipping the piece so that the builder lets you place it down, even if it clips through another part. Useful for exterior details
Discovered this by accident in early access. Its a very useful trick that I hope BGS look at how it works and change the restrictions on edits to suit accordingly. - Its a lot of fun. Something tells me its not just a matter of 'removing all rules'. The only problem with this, is that doing too many of broken edits can eventually introduce the ' pet asteroid' artifact; and eventually corrupt files (not just the save). If you notice your load times getting longer (more than merely Bethesda save bloat), and its actually effecting sound glitches. These are indicators. At first I got carried away and built this enormous ship. Then the game became so aesthetically unplayable so I had to trash the character. I wasn't far into the game. Mass plays a factor in how much FoV you get behind your ship. I had to use the photo mode camera to make the FoV large enough to play with it, between every travel / jump. 😅
I just found this out on accident the other day and figured out how to replicate it. So useful for hiding parts that throw off the symmetry of the ship.
As someone who builds aesthetically pleasing structures for a living (including game dev), the idea that the cowling cannot be trimmed/shaved down to fit (clipping through other parts in games) is beyond me because it's completely common during the workflow of game dev art.
I wondered about that. Perhaps they want players restricted to a certain aesthetic of the game; that NASA punk style? I dunno. Or perhaps its to fit within a process overhead? - I'm not 100% sure, but you'd think you wouldn't be able to broken edit otherwise.
Nice trick! Didn't know this. You can also place objects where they shouldn't go if you pick them up in such a way that they snap into the place you want them to as soon as you pick them up. It will go green and you can hit accept; unless you move at all, then it will turn red. EDIT: Make the the spot you want it to go the only place it could snap to, place the object just off above/below where you want it, then pick it up while keeping the module between you and the place you want it to go. I've done it with landing gear and engines.
I've been gathering footage for a demonstration all week but I can just roll that into the build Video at the end, I'll start working on it after work today!
It's funny because this is exactly same way, as builded Ecliptic Bayonet ship for example. Its design uses 2 unplaceable Deimos Wing C Stbd (it conflicts with chassis), that fits only this way.
Place the object anywhere. Pick it back up, move it until it snaps where you want, then hit the flip button until it lands back where you want it, finally hit cancel, for me it's B on xbox but it should be listed at the bottom of the screen while holding a part.
Using this method, is clipping an issue when viewing the interior or exterior of the ship (can you see the error when walking your PC in/around the ship)? Also does it affect the ship stats or mass rating (numbers)?
Clipping inside can vary wildly from none at all to not being able to see where you're walking inside depending on where and how it's used, you can find examples in some of my build videos usually towards the end. Stats are affected just as they normally would be by placing that piece anywhere else as far as I can tell.
Sounds good, I think it’s better to streamline the ship more and hide the shield array, extra fuel tanks or cargo INSIDE the hull) since supposed to be that way anyway. Does this work for PC AND XBox or just the PC?
Clipping can vary wildly depending on where the trick is used from none at all to "I can't see where I'm going" so have fun! Experiment and see what happens! I've only had one issue preventing me from entering or leaving the cockpit via foot one time, but I'll leave that for y'all to find!
I'm on xbox so RB allows me to highlight individual parts, after highlighting the group of parts I want to move, I grab one and they all move together. Whatever "Select" is at the bottom of the screen if you're on pc
Interesting, and it does work with a little persuasion, yet, when it comes to saving that's where the issue lies, it still says Unattached parts, classes it as an error. There are mods for every other aspect of shipbuilding, but not errors?. PS: you didn't show us you saving your build with the glitch...why?
As for the unattached parts, use select all on a main part of your ship, then grab it and move the whole thing to find what parts are not attached, those ones likely need to be flipped in a different orientation to work, apologies for any confusion I just wanted to do a quick video showing something I found messing around
@@GreaseMonkey663 No worries, its all fun and part of the learning process. Its a hit and miss process from what i can fathom, some parts work better than others, but you don't really learn until you've worked through a few problems, well, either that, or i'm a glutton for punishment. Kudos, and a helpful vid nonetheless.
Just Finished up that Build Guide some of y'all asked for, here you go!

Thats a sweet build brother!! Love the sleek design, thanks for the tip!!
Happy to help! Full build guides on the channel
Wow definitely did not know this! Extremely helpful
This is amazing, I've already gone through and made some changes to my ships.
Comments are too! Thanks for supporting the channel!

Absolute clutch tip. Nice work!!
Thank you!
@GreaseMonkey663 no, thank you!!, already log-in and re-did my ship.
That’s extremely helpful!
I wanna build that exact ship looks cool
I'll have to make a build Video for you then!
@@GreaseMonkey663 I’d love that thanks man

Gonna try this on PC right f'kin now Edit: Works on PC!
nice tip dude,
Thank you, very usefull
Thank you! Huge help!
Decent trick dude :)
I will have to give that a go on my next ship
Definitely going to try this
I haven't stopped using it since and the builds have only gotten more complex because of it, it's great
Oh hell yeah thanks Grease Monkeeeeey

You mean another Dev made ship using this glitch? That's awesome!
Thanks bro 👍
Cool. I completely different I like all the exposed gadgets. I wish they had more stuff like the jammer and shield to throw on there
Yea it's just nice to have the option, I started hiding everything except a few guns where I want them to stick out
@@GreaseMonkey663 I’m with u, cool breakdown thanks. Can’t wait for mods to hit Xbox, the ship building my favorite part of the game
@@edsherwook5196 Same here! I'm actually really excited to see what mods let me do in the ship builder.
Sadly is clipping through interior Parts. Im pretty sure those structures are blocking your acces to your Ships inventory in your Cockpit.
Full build guide for this exact ship on the channel if you'd like to see the interior clipping and how it affects the cockpit.
@@GreaseMonkey663 oh i see. You can walk through clipped Parts. I thought its going to block you.
Most parts! Some will physically block access to areas if you play around long enough to find them
Thanks dude o7
What do you mean by "press cancel"? Because if I press Tab, it simply closes the part choice. Is there another button I should be using?
Place the object anywhere. Pick it back up, move it until it snaps where you want, then hit the flip button until it lands back where you want it, finally hit cancel, for me it's B on xbox but it should be listed at the bottom of the screen while holding a part.
That ship is 🔥 build video? 😁
Coming soon!
So its similar to zelda ultrahand squash the parts close to each other thing.
Would have been nice if we didn't have to use a glitch to do that. Mod...
What happens to the inside of the bridge when you have those other parts intersecting it? :o
Examples in build videos towards the end! Clipping varies from build to build

Just finished editing a build video for this ship, its brief but at the end you do get to see the clipping, should be up tonight!
It's a shame you can only use this trick on parts that can be flipped/rotated
Variants too! Discovered later by viewers like you lol thanks for checking it out and commenting.
Ah, so glitching is how you do it. Hm.
You're a beast
Now... show a cideo of the interior of the shio after clipping it to all hel. Lol
Full build guide on the channel!
How did you move an entire section at once? Anytime I grab a "center" piece like that it just breaks that piece off!
I'm on xbox so RB allows me to highlight individual parts, after highlighting the group of parts I want to move, I grab one and they all move together. Whatever "Select" is at the bottom of the screen if you're on pc
if you are on PC just ctrl-click and select all the bits you want to move. then press SPACE and it should move everything in bulk
@@thekingjestyr Thanks! I don't have access to it on pc so I couldn't properly explain it for that version
On PC you can use shift or CTRL to start selecting multiple parts. Also great if you want to change the paintjob on the entire ship.
Amazing exploit.
