people say there is really no problem leaving grasses in the veggies...as long as they are shorter than the crop....i grow winter squash, which climbs over everything, just by digging a hole in the weeds, and planting....works good if you keep your eye on them....

My tomatoes were in trouble with blight. I tried this recipe and my plants were saved! No chemical and it worked quickly.
WHO would down vote this. He explained everything step by step, was easy to listen to, no annoying background music, gave the formula, all but did it for you, provided links - geez. Thank you sir, for very helpful, easy to follow video. Much appreciated

@@charlescoker7752 In other videos, he had explained that he started trying the peroxide AFTER the diseases hit to try to save them. Even preventive measures are not guaranteed since weather conditions, types of tomatoes, etc play a huge roll. Normally by August, his tomato plants are all done in by blight. I'd say still having lots of tomatoes and many healthy plants is proof that it works.
I have been a lot of thumb down on almost every video that I have watched. It is more so than any other time of watching videos. Almost viral -like.

**IMPORTANT - DO A TEST SPRAY ON A SMALL SECTION OR A FEW LEAVES - WAIT for 48 HRS. If the sprays have not caused any damage to your leaves and plants then it is safe to proceed to treat all of the plants.
- Use a 2 gallon spray jug: 8 - 12 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water. Use: 1- 2 tbsp of baking soda per gallon of water
Day 1: Saturate top & bottom of leaves with hydrogen peroxide spray - skip day 2 - wait 1 day/ 24 hrs, then on day 3 follow up with baking soda spray, -Saturate top & bottom of leaves with the spray then wait 7 days - repeat the same routine

Great videos as always. Here are some measure tips for all. For one or two gallon mix.
1. 12 tbsp is .75 (3/4) of a cup 1g mix.
2. 24 tbsp is 1.5 cups for 2g mix.
3. 12 tbsp is 177.4 (178) mil 1g mix
4. 24 tbsp is 354 mil 1.475 cups (1.5 cups) 2g mix.
**By weight hydrogen peroxide, Precision level 2.
1. 1- tbsp is 21.33 grams
2. 3 tbsp 64 grams (1/4g mix).
3. 6 tbsp is 127.96 grams (1/2g mix).
4. 12 tbsp is 255.96 grams (1g mix)
5. 24 tbsp is 511.92 grams (2g mix).

I am having the most productive year with my tomato plants than I have ever had ! Mostly relocating the potted plants to a sunnier area and being very proactive with regards to blight. I am in the first week of Sept in Central NH and my plants are showing no signs of slowing down. We've been canning since the first week of August. Love your channel, great tips ! Thank you.

I will DEFINITELY be trying this! I bought your "Homestead" tomato seeds and they've sprouted already (April in NH zone 5b). Some form of fungus or blight starting at the bottom and working its way up destroys my tomatoes every…single…year!!! They start out great and healthy and a month or so in it hits and it's fatal, end up with no leaves and green tomatoes on sticks. I believe it's airborne, I do all the bottom watering stuff, mulching heavily at the base etc. And I've done it all too for preventive measures, except this. It's been a real problem but I haven't given up, this is a great source of info and encouragement, thank you.

Outstanding video series on the hydrogen peroxide, Gary. This is some of your best work to date in my opinion. Tomatoes are by far the #1 vegetable grown in the US, and they're also one of the most disease-susceptible vegetables. Having this in our arsenal is groundbreaking stuff because this is the biggest enemy in most of our gardens. My disease calendar is about a month ahead of yours so it was a little too late for me, but I will definitely be incorporating the H2O2 at first sign next year. This makes me excited for the new season and this season isn't even over yet.
The Salty Dob argue with the seed manufacturers and grocery chains. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and squash are all sold as vegetables.
We don’t breathe “oxygen.” We breathe “air,” which is only 20% oxygen.
You know the answer to your question, so why ask it?

Want to thank you for your videos on using peroxide to treat leaf spot. I have a few raised beds and with the rain and heat we received this past spring and early summer, two of my tomato plants were affected by leaf spot. Initially it was just on the early girl and I was treating it by removing affected leaves or branches but then it migrated to my beefsteak. I soaked the leaves, branches, and stems with a good dose of 8 tablespoons 3% peroxide in a gallon of water. I'm keeping a close eye on them but it looks like the peroxide stopped the advance of the leaf spot. Hopefully with the dryer weather we are now getting, the leaf spot will be done for this year. Fyi, I'm in zone 5a and have 30+ tomatoes on the 2 plants in question - so looking forward to them ripening and enjoying tomato sandwiches. Thanks Gary.

This is my first year and I’m a nerdy/researchy kind of person so I am doing everything right, now that I know these fungi are inevitable. I would prune off the effected leaves daily with sterilized nippers only to find more damaged leaves the next day. I was searching the web for days without any answers, then I found this post!!! Bought supplies today and going out to spray. I ordered some stuff from you also. When I feel confident enough, I will order seeds. Thanks again ❤️

people say there is really no problem leaving grasses in the veggies...as long as they are shorter than the crop....i grow winter squash, which climbs over everything, just by digging a hole in the weeds, and planting....works good if you keep your eye on them....

Thanks for the video, Gary, well done and informative, as usual! I'm battling these leaf diseases in NJ, barely staying ahead of them. It is hammering down rain (again), and we have been soaked for weeks, which makes it hard to employ these sprays, but I'm going to give it a try on the rare dry day I'm not at work!
H202 is effective even with a few hours of dry time. Worth experimenting on some plants and seeing how you can use it next year.

Thank you for all of these great videos, Gary! Honestly, I was so discouraged after last year’s small output that I was going to give up and not bother this year. I live in the Bay Area of Calif and between the (usual) marine layer that hangs around until at least 1100 quite often and the air quality due to the fires last year, my entire crop produced about 20 tomatoes.
I’ve been watching your videos along with two other channels and got out back yesterday with the baking soda because I’ve got something starting on my heirlooms again this year. Since I hit it with baking soda yesterday can I use the hydrogen peroxide today? Just reverse the two solutions and then next week d the hydrogen peroxide first and then the baking soda? I used it on my cukes too b/c they’ve started with the dreaded white spots.

I would wait on the H202 it can react with the backing soda in theory. H202 is gone after a day, so it is best to use that first and then go with other fungicides. I pretty just use h202 nowadays on tomatoes though I do hit them with an anti fungal around now. And test spray too... what 48 hours for damage.

But you do repeat your information, your goal, and give the bottom line which is get a formula, get the routine, and stick with it. It's hard to keep any plants alive these days because the seeds have such terrible genetics. These people allow any seed that sprouts to grow which means the weak plants aren't being weeded out therefore they're becoming more disease-prone in creating disease-prone seeds they'll produce a whole crop of crappy plants. The trick is survival of the fittest. Give the minimal amount of fertilizer and only allow the strong to live. If it gets sick then let it die. This is the same reason so many people are being born with autism and cancer. They don't let the people born that way die off. It's more inhumane to allow someone to live who can't fend for themselves. My mother is a three time cancer survivor and I'm probably going to get cancer to so if that happens I won't get surgery I will allow nature to take it's course.

We moved Off Grid last Spring 2018 to 20 acres of forest in Eastern Wa State at a high elevation with a short growing season. This year, one of my daughters gave us 3 Roma tomato plants she started from seed, and bell peppers, summer squash, cantaloupe, cabbage, broccoli,cauliflower . I have no idea if we will have any of the diseases you mentioned. I think I’ll start with the baking soda spray as a preventative and see what transpires, if I can even keep these little tomatoes alive! We got several days of cold raining, foggy weather in a row. I scrambled around and found 1/2 gallon plastic goat milk jugs and some clear plastic salad mix container to put over the young tomatoes and bell peppers she gave us. They are planted in our new “ lasagna garden” beds and will soon be inside a high tunnel/ filed house for the remaining season. Thank you for the interesting tips, I’ll put them to trial if the need arises. I did spray the summer squash plants with a watered down buttermilk solution to prevent powdery mildew. First time trying this tip so I don’t have any experience with using this method yet. On the subject of buttermilk, I read a long time ago somewhere that the best way to propagate moss is to blend some moss up with buttermilk and then pour that solution wherever or on whatever you want moss to grow. Something I personally haven’t yet tried but plan to. Happy gardening to all who took time to read my long winded comment. 🤪
Totally off grid or mostly off grid. 20 acres of forest sounds amazing. Must be fully off. First year is really a test to see what grows and what problems come. Romas get blossom end rot notoriously. If you can grow some cherry tomatoes and any other tomato variety that will help give you an idea of how tomatoes will grow too. Good luck. And just enjoy!

I would say that yes,it would work on potatoes,because potatoes,being related to tomatoes,are also subject to fungal diseases.
I literally gave up on tomatoes because of all the fungus etc. Issues - that is until i found this🖒

Hey Gary, I have 3 Better Boy tomato plants that are incredibly healthy and I know that is due in large part with me using your tips. I also use tips from videos that MIgardener has out there. Could I possibly have you look at a picture of a leaf off one of my plants? It is starting to develop some sort of disease (I think), but I am not sure what this is and how to treat it.

Im glad I found this video, only wish it was Sooner, this is my 3rd year growing peppers and I had some 6 foot cayennes along with a bunch of other types that all got decimated and everyone I talked to have me a different answer, most were "pull up your plants and burn them"
No need to burn but once you figure it out, it will help each year

i've been plucking the leaves off, and leaving 4 rolls from the top down , and leaving suckers that bloom , they don't bloom i snap em off> Its the air flow they get, what they love > They make bigger tomato's too and more sucker blooms> for a Green Roma tomato not ripe yet, to fill your hand is awesome . There so big i have to support the vine where the tomato's are There growing like 5 to 8 tomato's per cluster > Yes they look naked but there doing EXCELLENT i also black light at night time for worms ect. They glow green or yellow

I live in eastern Nebraska growing zone 5b... we've really had some crazy weather swings this year and everyone seams to be having problems with tomatoes.
Weather is so crazy. Just when I thought I had a great September in store. 12 inches of rain. No sun for a week and molds all over my plants. Stuff I have never seen before. Next up the edge of a hurricane. LOL.
Hang in there ...it'll get better (I say that with my fingers crossed). I hope you don't get to much rain from being on the edge of that Hurricane. There are lots of people,. first responders and power company employees from our state heading south to help out wherever they are needed. Stay safe.
Thanks, I found the baking soda concentration, 1-2 tablespoons per gallon. Would this help to control red mites as well?
I found baking soda is most effective with fungus and molds. I dont think it would do a lot for mites but it is possible the pH value really bothers them.

After all this years of experience do you really keep trying to get rid of fungus with those fancy recipes??
Personaly i tried all of these fancy recipes.
My overall statement on all of these fancy recipes ( milk, baking soda, neem oil ect) is that it is a real waste of time.
Experience teach me that all of these fungus dicease are seasonal and that they are responding to seasonal weather condition changes, you got less sun, more humidity, more rains, cooler temperature, my point is that you can t control the season amd the weather that will make fungus thrives.
Save you headache and energy, be resiliant.
LOL, yeah you have the basics of it. I have a degree in horticulture. People want a solve all solution, but nature wins. Everything has it's season and area. Yes some things can be treated, but when an annual plant is in ripening faze, it's die time. Trying to grow something that's not for that zone is another problem. I moved to Florida from Michigan back in 91. I watched my spring tomatoes die in the summer. Now I plant my tomatoes in late summer/fall. I had to learn the season for the area not whats on the package of seed. But I do have a cherry tomato that does well in the summer here.
Maybe timing and frequency have something to do with it. I'm in a humid east coast, hot in late summer environment. I'm going to try this as a preventive, not wait for the blight to show up. I'll come back and update in August :)
I always use soap and water everyday on my plants outside vegetable plants tomato plants basil it works very well on keep the bugs off and then I use coffee grinds to keep the ants away and hot chili pepper plants

Its rainy season in Florida and powdery mildew is terrible, but am having fairly good results with H2O2, and some trimming.
Excellent. PM is showing up on my zukes. I am spraying it with h202. Working on a video.
I like this but I just stay ahead of any disease and have no problem. Clip this leave and that leave and it seems to work.

so I came home from vacation (2 weeks) to find a fair amount of powdery mildew on my squash and cucumbers. (note my squash plants are fairly small, grown vertically). I pruned off the worst leaves. On one squash if I had pruned all the leaves there would have only been 2 small leaves left so I left a few on that had some PM and sprayed with hydrogen peroxide. Not only did it not improve it seems to have gotten worse. This was a spray bottle of solution I'd made up & partially used just before leaving town - does it not remain viable? or do I need to increase the ratio of H2O2? I also used the baking soda spray on unaffected areas of the plants

great explanation, but i'd have to ask, if you do this then why does your plant have a outbreak? did you just not do it like you say you should? I have been using baking soda on my tomato plants for decades, i have not been using hydrogen peroxide though. baking soda I know works. all hydrogen peroxide is, as the chemical name suggests is water (H2o) with a extra oxygen molecule. (H2o2) we know funguses and such do not like oxygen, so makes perfect sense and is also good for helping oxygen to the roots. baking soda and acid produces carbon dioxide, which plants use also. During photosynthesis, plants take in carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) from the air and soil. Within the plant cell, the water is oxidized, meaning it loses electrons, while the carbon dioxide is reduced, meaning it gains electrons. This transforms the water into oxygen and the carbon dioxide into glucose which produces energy for the plant.
