Thanks for your comment. I bought two new Bachman engines and tore them completely down to the chassis. Then I built up the new super Garratt on the chassis. Thanks

Thanks for your comment. I enjoy building locomotives that are not the norm. I usually sell them as I complete them. I'm almost finished with the next one. It is a 4-6-0+0-6-4 and is 44" knuckle to knuckle.

    • @richardwilliams6837
      @richardwilliams6837 Před 3 lety

If I recall right, the proposed one for the North American use was compounded in the Mallet sections, so the outermost cylinders were low pressure (100-150psi - ish) and the inner pair were high pressure (250-280 psi).
      Tractive effort would be ...lots..
Suspect the infrastructure needed to run a beast like that could have been interesting as well, bit like the UP's use of gas turbines.
What could be fun is watching one try and get started.

Troztdem Gutes Handwerk!

I see that everything other than the locos are North American and I think the cars I saw driving by were travelling on the RH side of the road. If you are in North America, you must be the only one there who even knows that Garratts exist. Do you prefer them to Mallets? Why do you think Garratts never appeared in North America? By the way, I'm an engineer who is too young to have worked on steam but I spent 30 years with the NSWGR, owners of the AD-60 class. Saw one running just a few weeks ago.

The locomotives I’ve built in this video are all free lance locomotives. When I made them, I didn’t have anything to go by other than a picture or two that I found on the internet of the only streamlined Garratt that was built for the Algerian Railroad before WW2. They were gone after the war so they had a short life.
The regular freight Garratts I have built are also free lance. I’ve tried to build an American looking Garratt. Thanks for asking.

All the locomotives that I have built have been freelance locomotives. The main reason for this is because I have used Bachman chassis on all but a couple of them.
I didn’t know there was a quadrupled from Belgium. It would make for an interesting build if you could find four of the right chassis to use.

Very fine scratch and kitbash locos but only the Streamliner reflects areal Garratt...those of the French Algerian Railways ( SNCFA).
All the others, even the Double Articulated model, are " Under Boilered"...the Garratt design required sufficient steam production to supply Two sets of cylinders ( or four in the Articulated model)...your take-off Bachmann voilers would barely supply one cylinder set!
Keep onlythe cab and the Chassis units, build all the rest to proper proportions ( as you did the streamliner)
In any case, veryfine work, imaginative US Garratts...Just think a IHB boiler (0-8-0) feeding a NG Garratt; or a UP 9000 ( 4-12-2) Boiler feeding a NG 4-8-4 + 4-8-4, or even a double articulated wheel train....
Too bad the Rivarossi IHB 0-8-0 are extinct, their boilers were the right size for an On3 or On42 Garratt, and the Chassis for a 1n30 loco.
What materials did you use for the Tender bodies ( styrene, brass or tinplate)???
    Regards Doc AV
