I own the Mark IV, and its lock-on AF for long-distance surf videography when shooting in 4K 30fps is solid. Gets kludgy, or non-existent, when shooting in 120fps. But I'm at 550-600mm out so it doesn't make much difference. I need the tripod with the liquid head to get crisper smoother shots in AF 4K. So far lovin' the IV.
These bridge cameras produce incredible images, but auto focus has to be turned off, and you can't be zooming in or out. I've used a lot of professional video cameras and you don't have these problems.
I shoot baseball with the Mark IV and it's provided good results but it does sometime fail to focus when following the action. I have to zoom and then shoot and hope the focus will catch what I am aiming at in very short space of time. Sometime the focus will not catch up. Maybe some day we will have a camera where you don't have to press the shutter half way and will get in focus when to begin to shoot. It's only a split second but it makes a difference. Night games a very tough and the focus us often soft.
I'm sitting here marveling at what this camera can do and how sharp it with the Mark IV. What amazes me most is I have one too. Great video and thanks for the video. ☺
You cant focus on the abyss old bean? Focus on any camera, needs a focal point. Aiming at the sky, you are on a hiding to nothing. Why test things to get them to mess up. A cynical and pointless exercise ha ha!
If I set the aperture to F4, what MODE do I take photos in? I want to shoot P mode. If I shoot in P mode it will adjust shutter speed and aperture, right? Can I manually turn the aperture ring when I am in the MF mode? Also I saw a video where the Aperture ring said F6 for example but on the screen on top on the camera it said something like F3. Why is that? I want the shutter speed to be set at 1000. I keep reading about ISO but I understand that is about making the photo lighter or darker, the same as Exposure Compensation. I am probably wrong. If ISO is shutter speed, where in the Menu can I adjust the shutter speed to 1000?
ISO is the grain size on film. If the ISO size is larger it collects more light faster & the picture will be more grainy. Shutter speed is how long the shutter stays open. the longer the shutter stays open the more light is collected.

I had problem with the camera focusing on different things so im showing the limits of focusing. If you want to take general photos it will focus on peoples face or whatever. I photo sport cars while driving behind & in front of them. Some times it hard to lock on focus. I sometimes try to photo distant objects in the mountains & it will have trouble focusing on them.
Why people try to review things when they have no idea what they are doing?????
Yes I agree from comment below no camera can focus on a blank sky. Impossible

The MK IV is preset to ISO 80 and the MK III is set to Auto. It would be best to force all settings to be the same.

Nothing wrong with the mk3 af except on 600mm and the tracking not that fast. I dont like the mk4 yellowish skin tone.

A is for aperture priority. In that mode you can set the aperture to f4.
If you shoot in P mode you can change ISO or shutter speed if you want.

I like my RX10 IV because of little bit better focus. whats funny is i actually use my Samsung Galaxy S10+ the most to take pictures & video.
U need to learn how to use the other focus settings
Cant say anything about MK4, but MK3's focus is so mediocre, I am selling my camera just for his reason.... its 2021 for gods sake.

I bought it to take pictures of far away objects where I live in the mountains with the 600mm lens but it has trouble focusing on things far away.

Yeah sony needs to add AIR AF or Atoms AF so it can focus on nothing.... What a dumb video
