Well.. to be fair... he did make her feel like complete shit for the smallest things so I figure she looked at it as you have some nerve. Plus her mama died so she’s emotional. It happens
Frank was one of the most dysfunctional images of a black man on TV. We had so many positive black father's from James, Uncle Phil, Heathcliff and Carl Wislow, it's like they took this show in the year 2000 and tried to show negativity thru him and this show. Image is everything.
@@RapFanatic4ever I agree. Miles was too young to understand the magnitude of what just happened. You're right he's a kid. He's not like Moesha. He didn't feel betrayed or hurt or lied to. All Miles cared about was that he now had a brother.
It wasn’t just that this plot twist killed the series, it was also how the scene itself was directed. To have a hunky-dory outside character who never appeared on the show before or after this one single dagger of a moment casually mention that Dorian was Frank’s son was very inappropriate writing, period. Plus the fact that Frank and Aunt Hattie wanted to wait to reveal this dirty dagger of a secret to Dorian after he turned 18 showed sheer selfishness and passive-aggression on Frank’s part in particular. “Happy 18th Birthday, Dorian! Oh by the way, I am your father not your uncle.” 😡
Good point! When the aunt said at the end she was going to stay at a hotel I asked myself if she really did mean to come and turn the family's world upside down with some self-righteous agenda to let Dorian know the truth.
Thank you for letting me know this character had never been on the show before this episode. That's what very special episodes do: Create characters you're never going to see again just for the sake of the story. My thing is, did nobody tell Aunt Hattie not to say anything? I find it hard to believe that only five people knew about this and there wasn't a strict agreement between all of them to keep it a secret until Dorian turned 18. And two of them were out of the picture, so how did Aunt Hattie think it was okay to just blurt that out after so many years of knowing about it?
This is the reality some of us grew up in. I think this is the most powerful of the episodes ever. This show was deep on so many levels. Thank you Moesha team.
Here’s the part that I never understood: why didn’t Frank tell Aunt Hattie before she came to visit that his family didn’t know the truth about Dorian and careful not to mention it? She made a reasonable assumption that Frank wouldn’t have moved Dorian into his home without tell his wife and kids the truth. That just shows that Frank hasn’t just been lying to his family all of this time but himself as well. The truth brought too many consequences along with it and he just chose not to face it.
@@yummylemons172 That’s my point. Aunt Hattie should have been briefed on the entire situation. She made a reasonable assumption when she saw Dorian living there that the secret had finally been revealed. Frank put her in such an awkward situation and that wasn’t fair to her.
Exactly! Why not just say "Hey Aunt Hattie, Dorian is living with us now but he doeesn't know I'm him biological dad so don't bring it up" espcially when Frank knew evverything would blow up if it came out. I hate when shows have obvious plot gaps like that.
@Allison Edwards well technically he didn't betray them. The story was that moeshas mother left her and moeshas dad because and moved in with her sister because she didn't want to feel the pressure of raising a family and being an adult, they got married young. After that, moeshas dad started seeing another woman and got her pregnant, he was going to be with her and start a new life with her but 5 months later moeshas mom came back and her took her back. Of course Dorians mom couldn't raise a child on her own so Dorians father decided to raise him but his wife threaten to leave him again if he took the baby, and thats why his sister raised him instead. He never betrayed the family but he had to keep the lie to protect the family and moeshas mother reputation
You don't even know the storyline. Nothing what you said is right or even true except for what we saw and heard in the scene. Moesha was right cause he messed up her live and tried to blamed it on her and lied to the whole family.. He cheated on Moesha mom and called it a mistake. He was not going to be with the woman after he cheated because Mo's mom had came back from staying with her sister and they decided to work it out. We don't know the reason why moesha mom had left or why they were having problems but they had gotten into a fight and she left to cool down or whatever. I don't think that moesha mom would have left frank had he taken the child I dont think he told her that he cheated on her which resulted in a child which would have caused more issues on the ones that they already had. He betrayed the family by cheating on their mom which fathered a child.
Frank had Dorian when he was separated from his wife, who left him for non-related reasons. He didn't cheat. He still could have been more transparent about it earlier on.
Storyline never bothered me. It just made me feel like the show was maturing. It showed a decent man like Frank can be low-down too. Honestly I never liked him but this did make him more human. And knocked him down a peg. I was tired of him acting like he walked on water. 💯
Real shit. I felt like early on he had to "preach" all the time. It was the late 90s and all the black sitcoms were trying so hard to make the main male character like uncle Phil or Carl Winslow imo. Hell upn and them were even trying to make flex like that on one on one and LL on in the house 🤣🤣 this storyline with Frank made it a tiny bit more realistic imo
I completely disagree. A character can have flaws without it being that he cheated on his wife, particularly a black man. Black positive male role models, husbands and fathers especially, are nearly impossible to find on TV or in movies. So when they pushed this story line, it made him the typical black man. This made no sense.
Honestly I think it could have been done differently than having a cousin who didn’t know he was really his son. That’s too soap operatic to me similarly to how there have been some shows with a older sister who really turned out to be the character’s mom. It would have worked better if Dorian was a friend Hakeem’s who start coming by a lot and wanted to get to know the family and then revealing himself as Frank’s son or if he just randomly knocked on the door one day and revealed himself.
She thought everyone had been told since Dorian said that he lives there now and Dee said it was an adjustment at first and now they are now one big happy family. It would be natural to think everyone was told.
A lotta of y’all saying this killed the show on some BS. When this episode dropped this twist was a hit. Y’all just saw the interview the actor who played Frank gave & are just talking out y’all necks. What killed this show was the lack of fresh storylines once Moe got into college (miles getting kidnapped 😒) & UPN pulling the plug on a lot of black sitcoms.
Well, if you are OLD ENOUGH. You would notice that you missed a big thing. People actually hated the fact this happened . It was actually a topic on BET and radio shows where people gave their opinion on it . There’s a reason why viewership dropped AFTER this episode. Nice try using the whole “y’all are sheep” card…
The complicated elements of out of wedlock births, love affairs during martial separations, and parental responsibilities is what this storyline dealt with.Topics in which alot of people weren't for yet
Ray j has started on here twice before he became Dorian. Remember he convinced Q to let him perform at his show at the Den. He and his dad on the episode when all the Fathers and Sons had that Seminar and Frank took Hakeem. And then this when he became Dorian.
I still remember this like it was yesterday and yea this was the ending of the show in a lot of ppl eyes. But the Aunt killed me after spilling all that tea she was like, I'm better off in a hotel I was done
Man this was 1 of my favorite shows and episodes yo it too a while for Dorian to accept Frank as his dad and I hate it ended up getting cancelled especially with a cliffhanger of Myles getting kidnapped by Patience smh
She didn't even give Frank a chance to explain what happened. She automatically assumed that Frank cheated on her mother. I'm sure that's not what happened. From what I'm gathering it sounds like Frank and Marguerite were separated at the time or even living apart. So technically that's not cheating.
What trips me about Moesha wasn’t even this it was the aftermath. Myles was the only one okay with it and I buy that because I’m sure he wanted Dorian as a brother and he didn’t seem to be as close to his mom as Moesha was. Okay but Dee was supposedly in the wrong because she was angry for the big secret and lie Frank kept up from the moment Dorian stepped into their lives? And she was just supposed to be over it just like that? I think the episode after this Frank basically gave her the ultimatum that you accept this or you can leave. She of course accepts it and immediately 180s and defends him to everyone because she promised “for better or worse”. Then Moesha is angry cause he cheated on her mom and when Frank dives into trying to justify without giving her time to process or grieve she tells him to shut up. She’s immediately jumped on for disrespecting Frank. She then decides to move out of the house to distance herself from the situation and she’s “wrong” for needing time. Now Dorian (as much as I didn’t like him) was completely justified to be angry and hurt by all this everything he knew was a lie. His mom is actually his aunt, he’s adopted and he’s been neglected by his father for a long time. He was angry for a lot longer than anyone else was on this show. And what was the fucking nail in the coffin was that Frank told Moesha that if he brought Dorian in the house her mom would’ve left. Like duh, fuck yeah she’d leave because he cheated, had a kid, and wanted to bring the child into HER home too and everyday be reminded of the time her husband stepped out on her. Like that was unreasonable or some justification for what Frank did.

Not that I'm against the Dorian character, but I do agree that he really wasn't a necessary addition. The show was doing fine without him. Sometimes less is more and if it isn't broke don't fix it.

Frank was one of the most dysfunctional images of a black man on TV. We had so many positive black father's from James, Uncle Phil, Heathcliff and Carl Wislow, it's like they took this show in the year 2000 and tried to show negativity thru him and this show. Image is everything.

That was touching. I loved that part.
@@RealTalk1411 Thank God he’s not like Moesha
Kids don't have to be 18 to know who their dad is
@@rockchick128 we know, that’s common sense. The original comment was only referring to what Frank said in the show

The moment the show went to straight crap..
Well she didn’t know he was living there
@@yummylemons172 That’s my point.

Moesha was just like Lisa Simpson, she always want to get the moral high ground to make herself feel superior
Shuuuuut the fuck up.
@@meatballsandwich5329 im sorry its true, watch the episode, dont let your online balls get over your head
More like Brenda Walsh.

I agree
I never liked Frank. I guess him always being hard on Moesha stemmed from his fear of meeting a rotten man like him.
The way Moesha said "what" I was waiting for the studio audience to laugh!!
Notice everything went silent when Hattie said that Frank finally bought his son?
She probably revealed that info on purpose LOL
She thought everyone had been told since Dorian said that he lives there now and Dee said it was an adjustment at first and now they are now one big happy family. It would be natural to think everyone was told.
This episode blew my mind so much and I said to my self things just got tense

A lotta of y’all saying this killed the show on some BS. When this episode dropped this twist was a hit. Y’all just saw the interview the actor who played Frank gave & are just talking out y’all necks. What killed this show was the lack of fresh storylines once Moe got into college (miles getting kidnapped 😒) & UPN pulling the plug on a lot of black sitcoms.
What are you talking about UPN was pulling the plug on the late 2000s not 90s this wasn’t a hit Idk what you are talking about

Moesha made that whole thing about her
She didn't even give Frank a chance to explain what happened. She automatically assumed that Frank cheated on her mother. I'm sure that's not what happened. From what I'm gathering it sounds like Frank and Marguerite were separated at the time or even living apart. So technically that's not cheating.
He was a great dad and they put this crazy storyline in here!😢
“You finally brought your son home. I knew you would do the right…😳” 😂
this episode reminds me of wcw because it was the fingerpoke of doom oh and here's ray j aka the sitcom killer lol
This was so deep
Was there prerecorded laughs at the end of that scene?
