    What is valve float?
    Expensive, once the piston whacks it..

    Makes perfect sense to me the OEM manufacturer knows what they're doing it takes years of research and development for them to design a bike to run the way it runs. What I do know is if I ever do by a 4 stroke I will be sure to keep this in mind if the bike ever needs valves I will be sure to replace them with what originally was meant to be in the bike. Your wooden valve actually works really well for explanation purposes. That helps me understand it perfectly. Thanks buddy I appreciate these videos

    Thank you for helping me to understand this. The reason I was researching this topic is because after recently having my oil changed and a new oil filter put on, the next day a “service engine” light came on so I took it to have the error code read. It said PO304 “cylinder 4 misfire.” I just assumed it was time for a tuneup, so scheduled it with my mechanic. Anyhow, trying to put this in a nutshell. The engine made a terrible noise, then stopped. My mechanic found the number 4 spark plug smashed closed, so he believes that when they changed the oil filter something was dropped into the air induction hose. The other 3 cylinders, plugs were fine, good compression, cam timing was good, leak down test failed..etc. When I presented this information to the oil change place, their reply was that most likely a “floating valve caused the engine to fail. It’s a 2001 Ford Escort, 148,000 miles, but well maintained. I’m not sure what to do now. Thanks for your video.

      Hard to imagine you revved up the engine that high to float a valve... But it's possible

    I know this is an old video, and as others say, it's a very helpful video, using wood is probably even more helpful than using the actual engine to describe the condition! Thanks

    Valve float can appears when the spring is tired and need replacement with an original one. If floating already there since awhile then better replace the springs and the valves

    So will titanium stop valve float??

  • @martinskamla6789
    @martinskamla6789 Před 5 lety +1

    It does not happen to such extrems the valve doesn't exactly follow the cam lobe but that doesn't mean that the cam will do a full turnaround the valve would get smashed by the Piston from underneath before that would happen ...

    • @vegasromaniac
      @vegasromaniac  Před 5 lety

      Valve floating Will make you loose power, puts stress on a stock spring will brake it than piston hits the valve, so it happens exactly how I said it..

    • @martinskamla6789
      @martinskamla6789 Před 5 lety +1

      @@vegasromaniac you missed my point everything you said is true except for the detail that the cam lobe will not be able to do a full 360 rotation and hit the valve again the valve floating is usually hapening within 15 degree of aditional opened time not a full cam rotation ............But OFC the takeaway is the same it s just that that it doesn´t happen to such extreme as a full 360 cam rotation

    So u think this would cause retainers to crack? I think,my springs are just weak,they keep breaking retainers and buckets cant figure it out...valve on the tip where the keeper holds it is all worn out too but i replaced everything but springs i hope thats it ..what u think

I saw your video on supertech mineral oil... so is that the regular mineral automotive cheap oil, non JASO ma? if it is the cheapest automotive mineral oil how long do you go beetween changes? i saw the video but did not quite get what kind of oil is that.. Nonsense. If you are a PRO rider that can take the bike on the limit, Titanium is best for you. IF you are a novice rider just out for fun, SS will just be as good as you won't find the limits of the valves anyway.
