It's an extremely sensitive pick-up. Also, extremely expensive. Voice vibrations fluctuate the movement in and around the strings, and get tangled up with the electromagnetic waves...
(Technically this is not so, as the voice vibrations intercept the original vibrato-patterns that produce the relative sound; disrupting the audio output.)
So Mark's voice winds up getting processed as a clear tone, and washes through, rather than your typical line-leveled, microphonic-response.
