Five feet apart will absolutely make someone cry
Ansel played in Men women and children and divergent(hazel was also in divergent they were siblings)
React to Hocus Pocus movie next
React to Hocus Pocus 2 movie
React to Meet The Blacks movie 1 and 2
Three things in this life are certain: death, taxes and Bryce crying at parent stuff.
Big truth ❤
“she’s so deserving of love and that experience”
oh bryce. we love you.
Ik he literally reminds me of Gus 😭
So we making Bryce cry again 😂
my favorite genre of movies cause i relate to bryce
It’s literally the best parts of their reactions🙌🏾😭
that’s literally me crying
It makes me laugh knowing I’m not the only one who’s cry’s to every thing 😂❤
Poor Bryce. 😢😂
Zuff thinking they get actual wishes was just precious.
I know he was genuinely confused “where do these wishes come from 🤔” 😂
Lol this gave me a good natured chuckle as well 😌
😂😂😂😂
i'm dying over the "is this the real anne frank house?" "no that wasn't in amsterdam"
it is actually!! a lot of people think that she lived in germany but her family hid out in amsterdam! i went to the anne frank house when i was in holland and it's very cool! i'm not sure if they filmed in the actual house or not but the real life anne frank house is in fact in amsterdam :)
Pretty sure it is the real one, looks exactly like it at least
Oops just saw someonce commented they made an exact replica, thats pretty sick
This was not the real Anne Frank house. They tried to get permission to film in the real one, but was denied. There can be no cameras or videos inside the house.
And the restaurant they went is a real place but could not film there either due to the small size of the restaurant. So both places were fully developed sets.
bryce going “yeah wtf was that about? that was one of the saddest things i’ve seen like ever” like 10 mins in sums it all up 😭 i forgot how much of a tearjerker it is damn
Honestly, if you like watching bryce cry at this kinda stuff (or just like watching this kinda stuff) you guys should watch "me before you", "if I stay" and "five feet apart" 😭😂
I love me before you and if I stay I haven't seen five feet apart yet.
Dude that's exactly what I was thinking too
"Me Before You" had me balling! I second that movie suggestion!
Me before you!!!
I can just imagine the tears he would be shedding. I cried like a fool watching this😢
I feel like this book/movie is the fulfillment of Ron Weasley's prophesy: "You're going to suffer, but you're going to be happy about it." 😅
There's a huge thing that's not touched on from the book: Augustus had a girlfriend before Hazel that passed away from a brain tumor.
And supposedly the tumor changed her entire personality, to where she had no verbal filter.
That's why Augustus does the same throughout the whole movie.
Also apparently Augustus was staring at Hazel in the meeting because she and Hazel looked similar in their "cancer states" (book quote).
Also how hazel ended up pregnant after Gus died, and then the baby died. I think it was just too much to put in the movie.
@@sonderson6363 It's been several years since I've read the book, but I'm like 99% sure that was a fan theory/fanfic not actually in the book.
@@sonderson6363 yeah that didn't happen in the book
@@sonderson6363 that was never in the book ^
wdym when you said "That's why Augustus does the same throughout the whole movie."?
The way this movie had me and my friends in a chokehold when it came out was legendary
yeah, me and my friend saw it in theaters together. It holds a special place in my heart tbh.
i thought john green's books were the PINNACLE of literature when I was 14 lmaooo
Only you guys could make me rewatch this movie, I was avoiding it for years because I remember sobbing my eyes out
Same here! I read the book and then went excitedly to the theater to watch this when it premiered, but then never watched it again. I even purchased the DVD, but I still couldn’t bring myself to rewatch it until now.
@@IndieCindy3 it’s a different kind of pain! I could never finish the book cause i watched the movie first and it was still raw. Saddest bit is knowing Hazel will inevitably die too young also. And Gus’ eulogy for Hazel my God :(
I HIGHLY recommend the movie Now is Good, it is from the UK and came out before this one and is really moving as well.
@@the_lorax9079 that’s been in my to watch list for the longest time, the book also! I’ll have to give it a watch thank you. :)
What's really wild is how Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley play mother/daughter in this and iconic mothers in Big Little Lies, another amazing show you guys should check out 😭
Omg sooo freaking true, I second this suggestion!
Big little lies is fantastic
The second season not so much
Shailene and Ansel also played siblings in Divergent
@@Knightowl1980 never finished the second but the first was so good!!
I lost my dad to cancer, watching that illness consume the most incredible person in my life and you can’t do anything about it except be there for them is so painful.
I’m sorry for your loss🙏🏿❤️
I love how Bryce is so in tune with his emotions ❤
I love John Green novels. He captures something so beautiful & heartbreaking but unique to him about living & death. I could barely read TFIOS I was crying so much. My tears wouldn’t let me see the words on the page. It broke me. Then the movie came out & captured the book completely. The heart of it, the pain of it… all right there. I bawl my eyes out every time. It’s a very special story.
I will tell you it was strange watching them be brother and sister in one movie to lovers in the next 😂
LOL so it's not just me! Dude everytime I see this movie my brain always goes back to Tris and Caleb
@Irene White yes! I saw Divergent first because I'm not all about crying in front of others lol then when I watched this, I was like dang this is so weird 🤣
21:08 “why do we have to see this again? why are we doing that?”
It's doubly poignant that Hazel and Gus kiss in the attic where Anne Frank and Peter Van Piels also fell in love. A mirroring of two sets of teenagers, born in different times, both couples under the heavy threat of impending death before they reach adulthood, but finding solace and connection in one another, amidst sadness and difficulties no one should experience.
I just wanna say I've been having a shit time lately, but your videos always manage to make me smile - even when the subject/film is a bit on the sadder side, it's just nice to feel like we're watching it with such a great group of friends. Thanks for all the effort you put in and the consistency, it does not go unnoticed!
33:14- Yes Rob this is the actual house Anne Frank was in, yes it is in Amsterdam.
OMG IM SO EXCITED!
My mom and sister read the book and they both cried the the upstairs hallway for over an hour, I knew what happens and I agreed to go to a special showing of the movie as emotional support for them.
We got a bracelet and poster each, i was read to have my mom and sister crying on me, I thought it wouldn’t effect me at all, but I turned into a complete mess and my mom and sister had to comfort me and then everyone in the theater was comforting everyone. There were lots of couples and one behind us was losing it, the guy was sobbing and that made his girlfriend cry even more and I remember her say “you said you wouldn’t cry” I could barely understand her then I heard him tell her that there was a shit load of snot coming out of her nose.
Everyone had to take a couple minutes when it was over to calm down but it was one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had and the movie has a special place in my heart because of it.
Omg. Y’all actually appreciating the movie and not making too many jokes! It’s rare to see 3 male reactors who actually observed and made good commentary. ❤️❤️ I have to sub now lol
That is ann Frank's house. It was in Amsterdam.
This movie was one of my favorite quotes “I fall in-love with you how I fall asleep at night, slowly then all at once” I don’t know why but that stuck with me when I watched it, I enjoyed the reaction even as a horror fan I am a sucker for a good romance and even more if it’s a tear jerker so can I recommend to u guys watching five feet apart and Me before you two great movies
You guys have been killing it lately with the movies, this movie made me cry so hard, and seeing you guys cry was also very wholesome
This movie and A walk to remember are like weirdly kind of comforting even though they make me cry haha. I think I just find the couples aspect very cute and calming.
Also this was the first book I read in middle school that made me full on sob. That twist with Augustus dying absolutely broke me because I was preparing myself for Hazel’s death so it caught me by surprise.
I saw this movie at the cinema too, for some reason it was just me, my best friend and my mom in the room. At the end we had streams of black mascara down our cheeks and I can't imagine what people thought when we came out 😂
LOL and thats why I avoid sad movies in public places
@@irenemichelleanne Ahah I definitely learned my lesson after that
This was a hard one for me but God forbid you guys ever watch "my sister's keeper" if you didn't already! Tissues are a must!
Bryce thank you, the cigarette methaphor made me cringe back in 2014 at age 14 the same it does now 😂😭 but apart from that John Green is a literal icon
It's important to know that John Green used to smoke. 😂
the Anne Frank House is absolutely in Amsterdam and it's one of those things you should absolutely experience in your lifetime; it's breathtaking. also, John Green is the king of writing hyper-articulate teens lol ❤
Fun fact since y’all mentioned Aaron Rodgers - Shailene Woodley (the actress) actually dated and was engaged to him however they split like a year ago shortly before he got married to someone else
I can never watch this movie and not cry! It's so beautiful and sad at the same time. It's the twist that always gets you because from the very beginning, we think it's Hazel that's going to die but then we find out that Augustus is sick again and he's the one that ends up dying. I love this movie so much, can't tell you how many times I have rewatched it. Between Hazel's eulogy for Augustus and Augustus' eulogy for Hazel I'm not sure how long I was crying for. Those characters deserved the world, and that ending with OKAY, just killed me! 😢
I don't think I'm ever gonna get over this movie, I cry every time since It came out when I was like 12
If you like John Green books, there’s a movie for Paper Towns. And there’s a show for Looking for Alaska which is SO true to the book. It’s amazing
Paper towns was horrible😭😭😭 at least the movie was. It was so overhyped.
Paper towns is a top tier book and a bottom tier movie. Just absolute garbage. Not the fault of the actors. Absolutely just a terrible written adaptation. The plot changes destroyed the original message and the movie did not properly convey how much of an unreliable narrator Q was/how damaging it was to both him and Margo for him to view her as more than just a person.
Instead of being a critique/deconstructing the way ppl create manic pixie dream girls (as the book did so well), the movie just -has a manic pixie dream girl as the love interest. And therefore is just another shitty movie with a manic pixie dream girl love interest
That "okey, Hazel Grace" always gets me
Hazel's mom always makes me cry LOL, the parent stuff sucks SO bad. But yeah I agree that probably the saddest thing about this movie is when Gus isn't himself anymore, starting from the phone call at the gas station. The realities of cancer suck so bad, and it's very hard to watch, but it's incredibly important and a very beautiful story. If a man don't make me feel like how Augustus Waters makes Hazel feel, I don't want him😤😤
"Where do we get these wishes?" has me cracking up😂
Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort also played siblings in the Divergent series that came out around the same time. I loved that series, especially the first two movies, Divergent and Insurgent. The last book was cut in two movies and part one, Allegiant, was released in 2016. It received generally negative reviews from critics and was a box-office bomb. It is the lowest-grossing film in the series. The last movie was to be called Ascendant and to be released in 2017. Due to budget cuts, a theatrical release for Ascendant was dropped in favor of making a television film for Starz that would be followed by a spinoff series. But both projects have canceled, effectively ending the franchise.
Plus, Shailene and Laura Dern star in Big Little Lies, with Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Alexander Skarsgård and Zoë Kravitz (also in Divergent). Meryl Streep also plays a big part in season two.
Notice the swing set is gone? Another book reference. In it, they decide the best way to deal with the swing set of tears is to get rid of it, so they sell it to a family with two kids whose parents want them to go outside more.
Really love the genuine reaction from this one ❤❤❤ and while we’re at it another similar movie would be Me Before You. That one absolutely broke me
"HE'S BATMAN" "no he's not" hehe I love this group XD
ok but if you love inspirational sports stuff, ted lasso is really a musttt watch
Ooooh y’all really need to watch Divergent. They’re both in it.
Bryce is just like me cause I also cry at parents stuff and honestly am quite an emotional guy so anything sad in movies just gets me
You guys should watch The Blind Side!!
Yes!! That is a phenomenal movie ❤
this is exactly what I needed on my birthday
Happy birthday!!!
Oh wow this movie was a tearjerker! Awesome that you guys are watching so many good movies 👍
This was the first every book to make me cry because I read it when I had just been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and it hit a little to close to home
Does that mean they haven’t seen Baby Driver?!?
Ansel Elgort has been in the divergent series also with shailene woodley, baby driver, the goldfinch, and west side story (I recommend)
I ATE this movie up at age 14/15 so much it's like going back in time watching this video and remembering how all the cheesy romantic moments made me swoon (also I don't think they filmed in the actual Anne frank house but it's hilarious how dramatic this scene was because I've been to the house and you can't even climb up the ladder in the real house, it's blocked off)
He’s in Divergent where he actually is Shailene woodleys brother lol
I'm glad you gave this one a chance. The first time I read the book, I cried for like, the entire second half. It's a tearjerker but so good. I enjoy John Green's books in general.
Bryce is a softie 😊
20:53 I think the Dad was being protective rather than mean, he didn’t say anything bad but I think that’s what the tone of voice was. Protective of Augustus and of Hazel, I think he’s afraid she will get her heart broken and it will kill her and that if Augustus stays in her life it’s another person who has to lose her if she passes before him.
not the "i wolf you" 😭😭😭😂😂
I've been a huge fan of John Green for over a decade, especially because he lives in my city and a lot of the places in the books are real places I see every day. I now work in the children's hospital that was the inspiration for the one in the book. It's unfortunate that his brother was just diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma a few weeks ago.
In school I was a therapist who led a group partial hospitalizing program, and I used this book a lot in my curriculum on living with chronic health conditions. The one that really stuck with patients was, "that's the thing about pain, it demands to be felt."
This book and author will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I'm glad you all watched it
You guys have to see Grave of the Fireflies, it’s a masterpiece but also the saddest movie ever
33:27 yes that was her real house. She lived in the annex but that really is where she and her family hid for almost 2 years. x
Been looking forward to this reaction!! The sad movies make for such good reactions with all the tears! The song at the end kills me every time 😭
the egg throwing scene is still my favourite and isaac is always a mood
I have such a stupid crush on Bryce and it just increased when he knew the flowers were tulips. Like the bar is on the floor 💀🥲
I have such a stupid crush on Sharoncolocho7229
Oh, I remember watching this at the cinema and I could not, for the life of me, stop crying at the end. It has got to be one of my favorite movies, they did the book justice!
Also, side note; this was filmed at the actual Anne Frank House in Amsterdam! Anne Frank and her family moved to the Netherlands in 1933. They hid in the annex of the building her fathers company was located from July '42 until August '44. It has been a museum since the '60s, which Otto Frank (Anne's father and only surviving member of the Frank family) oversaw.
I Can Just Tell By This Thumbnail That Bryce Cried His Eyes Out 🥺💯✨
He's a looker. He's a texter. 😂😂
There was a certain point when all 3 of you looked so depressed 😂 I felt that
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MY SISTERS KEEPER ❤❤❤❤❤
it’s one of those films that sticks with you ❤❤❤❤
Really random but you guys should watch The Handmaid’s Tale (as a live action series) - it is super dark and different from what you have reacted to (it’s a dystopian series, about a theocratic America that has been overtaken by puritanical radicalism) but I think it is really impactful
I’ve just found you guys. Wow. The empathy in you all touches my heart.
Commenting at the beginning of the video…. Bryce I’m so sorry about what your about to go through lol this one is so sad
Re: the infamous cigarette metaphor cringed moment-
Something people don’t realize about Augustus’s character that John green has talked about is that he is very performative with his words and behavior. He often uses big words (incorrectly) to try and make himself sound smarter even though it comes off making him look silly etc.
The cigarettes thing is an especially clear example of his desperate desire to feel like he’s in control. In the book (***spoiler****) it’s also learned that bot only did he lose a leg to cancer but before hazel he also lost a love of his to cancer (a girlfriend). This kid is desperate to feel in control of his life. Which he is not. As is the theme of the novel. The fault in our “stars” -stars is “destiny/fate” which is what’s explored in a lot of the text and subtext.
I found this quote from John green when answering a tumblr question about Augustus:
“Anonymous asked: I feel like the only person in the universe that doesn't understand the cigarette metaphor. Can you explain it? And perhaps the implications of having a character so concerned with metaphor and grand Romantic images over the reality of their lives?
John’s Answer: Right, so there are a lot of ways to answer this question, I think.
The very straightforward way: If you think of symbols as “enchanted objects,” Augustus associates the unlit cigarette with taking control over his health, which often feels (and is!) out of his control. So he puts the killing thing in his mouth but denies it the power to kill him.
The less straightforward way: Augustus is a very performed character, right? He delivers monologues, for God’s sake. He’s one of those kids who is super self-conscious and always assumes that people are watching him and/or listening very closely to him. So this is one of the ways that we see him performing the role of Augustus Waters instead of just being authentically himself. (This changes over the course of the novel; even though he clings to the IDEA of the cigarettes to the very end, it’s worth remembering that he never actually GETS them in that scene at the Speedway.)
3. There are even less straightforward, metafictional ways to read Gus’s obsession with symbol and metaphor (like, he’s a character in a novel that’s about how fiction is important and ‘real’ even though it is made up and not real, etc.), but I find that stuff a bit much, personally.”
They are both in the Divergent movies. You guys should watch those movies. Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant.
They are literally the definition of THE RIGHT PERSON THE WRONG TIME !!!
Ahhh, here we go. Let’s cry together then 🫠
i’m really happy I’m not the only one that knows who the naked Brothers band is
If you're a Nat Wolff you should check out Home Again with Reese Witherspoon
I read this book a few months after my dad passed from cancer in 2013. The book made me cry like no other book ever did, even til this day and the movie still makes me cry so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I cried just by watching the reaction 😂
YESSSS Ansel Elgort does look like Nick Robinson (Simon from Love, Simon)! So glad Bryce said that I thought I was the only one! 😂❤️😅
Going into this reaction, all I could think is "this movie is gonna fuck me up", and it did. I had a good cry and it was worth it.
Ansel also played Tony in the latest adaptation of “West Side Story”. He’s actually a very good singer!
If you guys haven’t watched it yet, I’d love to watch you guys react to the HBO adaptation of the video game “The Last of Us”. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are INCREDIBLE!
thinking about john green writing this book in retrospect after news of his brother’s (hank green) recent cancer diagnosis is sort of crazy and so sad, hoping everything goes well with his prognosis :((
I thought about it 5 minutes into the reaction and it made me sick to my stomach.
I was such a John Green fan in HS and I remember rushing to buy this book when it came out. I remember he was inspired by a real girl named Esther Grace Earl who died of cancer when she was 16. She was a fan of his books and they developed a friendship. He dedicated the book to her.
Bryce, the scene where she’s sobbing is where I break down too. It’s the gut-wrenching sounds she makes for me.
You know what, I needed a cry right now. Thank you for this.
One of the many movies I’ve cried my eyes out to fr this movie made me sobb😢 love u guys
Augustus waters was the first guy in a novel I fell for. He just felt so charming and perfect but still somehow real.
Y'all are wearing the French flag
“Every kiss begins with Augustus” made me laugh so hard 😂😂
watching this in the cinema when it came out was a surreal experience. all you heard were people, mostly teenagers, sobbing - including me. i could barely see towards the end because of all the tears.
Bro I cry everytime I watch this film. 😢 This is one of those movies I can only watch maybe once or twice a few years even tho its very good and powerful. It just hits too close to home. Great reaction you guys. 👌🏼
I'm learning English so I still don't understand very well, I really enjoy watching your videos and also seeing your reactions to what happens! I would like to thank you for putting the image of the film on top since the caption of you speaking is below, it helps me a lot!
you guys would absolutely love me earl and the dying girl. it’s so good
Every time I watch this movie, I think I won't cry because I've seen it and I know what happens, but the moment that pre-funeral scene hits IM GONEEEE
I met Shailene in 2016 and she was a sweetheart. I love this movie!!
I read the book and I watched the movie when it came out, I didn't expect to cry watching this reaction but I did! It was great! I'm happy I found you cause you guys have a ton of reactions I want to watch ❤
the book had me in tears too!!!
Okay okay okay okay, here we go 😭
When I read the book I cried when I saw the movie I cried 😂
Yes it is, Anne Franck House is in Amsterdam
the way i violently cried watching this movie in theaters and still shed a tear every time i rewatch it
