- Here we have a video taken on a lovely sunny day at the RAVENSPRINGS PARK Home to the BRIGHOUSE and HALIFAX MODEL ENGINEERS
The occasion is the first "trial run and commissioning of the 7.25" gauge
British Railways 4-6-2 class 8P "Pacific" class Steam Locomotive
No. 71000 The "DUKE OF GLOUCESTER"
The full sized locomotive was a (one off) design designed by R. A. Riddles in 1954 for British Railways.
The locomotive had three cylinders and Caprotti valve gear.
Being near the end of "steam" the design did never get fully commissioned and to realise it's full potential before being withdrawn in 1962
The locomotive managed to avoid the "cutter's torch" and is now in preservation.
The locomotive is now generally referred to as "The Duke" and has now had
the modifications she would have had if her service life had been long enough and has now become the powerful, efficient locomotive she was always meant to be.
The model in this video has just had a four year rebuild and super detailing overhaul at the STEAM WORKSHOP (WEST YORKSHIRE), and we join them as they put "THE DUKE" through her paces on her first steam trial having only previously tested on a rolling road in the workshop
Wow! Marvellous, brilliant!
Such a beautiful locomotive. I envy the owner and the workshop. And I'm baffled by the fact neither Evans nor Young ever published designs for a 5" and/or a 7.25" version. I would love to build one myself and sink my teeth in the caprotti valve gear.
It was a one off model that Denis Evans built, he also did one in 5" gauge as well as a Caprotti BR standard class 5. He was a member at Fylde model engineering society and a brilliant model engineer.
nice one Andy👍👍👍👍👍👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
