  • Welcome to this video where we chat through the top 8 weirdest overpriced items at Hermes. This includes a wooden horse head, a wicker tray, potential dog poop dispenser bag, picnic set and more.
What do you think? Do you think these could be 'Birkin Bait' items you'd be required to potentially buy to qualify for a Birkin or Kelly?

Hi Sophie, Paris Hilton’s mother bought the wicker tray for her daughter’s fiancé for his office. They hated it and put it in the kitchen cupboard . She went berserk when she went for a glass in the kitchen screeching at them “do you know how much it cost? It’s Hermes!!!” 😂😂😂😂 (from an episode of real housewives of Beverly Hills) 😅

The picnic basket price is wild. Like using the math for their ceramics and glassware they’re saying that the basket is worth about 8k.

The birkins and kellys pretty much sell themselves, there is absolutely zero effort by the SA to sell any of them, people literally fall over themselves to get one. So, that is probably the reason they do not get commission. Sounds pretty fair to me to be honest. I personally do not believe in commissions. I feel that if they had a set wage and that's it then they would not be pushing items according to commission and our sales experience would probably be much better.

Wicker basket. The price of a car. My first Toyota, 13 thousand dollars. Now it is about half or a used car. Ridiculous. A strip of leather and a leather worker could make you a special basket for a lot less. I believe these go towards a bag. No one would buy any of these things. There is a law suit in the US for this reason alone. More money than sense.

I do own the Hermès wicker tray. Although mine is rectangular. I bought it roughly 6 years ago. It was around the 900£ mark if I remember correctly. The quality is absolutely incredible but it definitely is up there in price…especially today.
I have to say that Hermès does wicker like no other brand. A few months ago I was able to handle the Picknick Kelly in store. It wasn’t for sale but clients were offered to inspect it 😂
Regarding the whole quota bag ordeal. I personally have never experienced “the game”. I just said exactly what I’m looking for size, color, type of leather, hardware etc. I always received the bag I asked for within 4-6 months. Yes I’m talking Birkins and Kellys. I’m only interested in sizes 35 and 40cm. Maybe it’s so unproblematic for me because of the whole micro bag trend going on at the moment. I don’t know.
I only purchased a handful of non quota items like the wicker tray, riding saddle, and the Avalon blanket (not worth it btw) and a few clothes items.
I personally think it has to do with location and whether Hermès thinks you’re a good fit for the brand.
The store I go to is in a rather small city btw😂

    • @Serena_9
      @Serena_9 Před měsícem +2

Well, you are sort of in the game though. I don’t think regular people would spent £900 on a wicker tray, ridding saddle and blanket 😂. Besides birkin size 35-40 that you are after is not so popular and it gets decline by many clients everyday. I was offered size 35 and 40 twice in London, but I opt to wait until I get 25 later on.

Dear Sophie, great video as usual! I'm happy that you got great feedback after your last video regarding luxury. I actually have this Hermès wooden horse head :D and the reason why I bought it is because I'm really into luxury home design and I somehow knew where I want to put it and it really looks nice where it is located now - I have to agree though it was overpriced but I also liked it because horses somehow represent Hermès for me and it's more like "if you know, you know" as there is no H or something similar engraved to it. Paris rescued him from blame by saying the housekeeper put it there, and she doesn't know (Hermes). So no one got yelled at. 😂 But Kathy H squawking, "THAT is a Hermes tray...."!!! 😅 The clip is on You Tube from 'Paris in Love'.

Knew somebody who had a(n) Hermès saddle and she made sure everybody knew it - would never have known otherwise. She was very successful on the show circuit but don’t think it had anything to do with the saddle. From the saddle experience, not sure would recognize Hermès dog collars and leashes. Have seen quite a few four legged furry dogs wearing Louis Vuitton dog collars and leashes - think they’re more for the dog owner than the dog. Always told my dogs not to look as they were not going to get luxury designer collars and leashes as we were going for understated luxury with plain leather collars and leashes.

There's a weird dissonance listening to you make fun of the prices of these items when you own many bags/purses that easily cost 20% of the annual total family income in the uk. I like books so £1000 for bookends that will last a lifetime seem much more reasonable than spending the total annual housing cost of an average family on one bag to carry stuff around. Fortunately, I dislike horses so I am not tempted. It's really a matter of what one values and those of us, myself included, who love designer luxury bags are hardly in a position to point fingers at others' spending habits.

I personally don't have a problem with some people being able to afford exorbitant prices while other people can't. The world has always been like that. When you can't afford it, it gives you something to dream about. But usually, the items that I might covet will have a certain degree of craftsmanship. What makes the booties and bib set interesting is the design perhaps along with a logo, but not much more, I can't see a lot of effort being put in to it, as for the wicker basket, if people want it and can afford it good for them but I found it to be uninspired frankly.

The dog leash probably gets more use than one of their leather belts for women. Or one of their leather bracelets. Women don’t wear the same belt day after day if they buy Hermes. Granted the leathers used are different than on the dog leash. I personally would buy neither but I don’t feel the dog leash is any more outrageous in price than their belts that seem to range from $600-$1,000. At least it would constantly be used hopefully not by a puppy.

Money is energy, and to hold that 5k in your hands think of all the sacrifices you and others have had to make for it. Selling your time, energy, health, lost memory building opportunities - only to ultimately spend that energy on…well that 🙃😂 the “luxury” industry is essentially laughing in those people’s faces.

The only thing I can say in favor of this is that when you pay high prices for everyday things, you REALLY take care of them. Obviously most of this is ridiculous, but for a certain type of person they will be perfect. 😆

Call me crazy 🤣but the dog pouch looks like a nice belt bag that probably holds more then the mini Kelly.

If you go for one of the clearance non designer blankets you can get a lovely one for under £200. And they do lambswool for much less than that

Love yr video. Knowing the difference between worth, value and sensible pricing to commensurate with the quality. To me Hermes is over rated. Not all rich people shop at Hermes or carry a Birkin or Kelly. Rich old money and richness from hard earned effort do not simply pay 13k pounds for a picnic set. They always compare the price to the quality and worth/value. The 13k pound picnic set can be better used for charity, a holiday, investment, etc.

The wicker and raffia prices of all luxury brands have been blowing my mind. The medium Lady Dior in wicker is 6300, and mini Kelly in wicker is somewhere around $13800 retail (and multiple times that on secondary market). So if you think about it, in comparison, the huge picnic basket with all those dishes and glasses is quite a bargain lol. In all honesty, I suppose the craftsmanship of the material requires more time to produce each item so they are priced accordingly, but I personally will not be spending my money on things made out of dried grass.

That tray cost 50 max (if that) and the handles are a way for Hermes to use scraps and the glass is penies.

I’ve guessed the tray price correctly 😂 This must be the stuff the Birkin wait list clients buy. Quite sad really

Sophie, the Hermes blankets are REALLY bad quality, if in doubt, watch CZcams reviews.
Mine lasted mare 6 months before letting it go due to quality issues.
So funny with the treat box, people of such level of wealth, don’t walk their own dog anyway!
I agree with your view on the price point.
You are wealthy, but it’s not people on your financial level they are looking for as client, hence why the price is that high, cutting out anybody but the real financial elite.
It isn’t a part of the Birkin buying process, it’s what people with unbelievable amounts of money buy because they can.

Holy. Actual. Eff. That much for the picnic set???? If you want something special, which is still overpriced but not INSANE, go with a Fortnum & Mason set -- and you get food with it, too!! P.S. If you're a new parent and are looking for special baby items, PLEASE consider your local knitters/crocheters -- they can make something unique and lovely for you, often made out of cotton yarn, which is great for delicate newborn skin.

It's ridiculous that a brand with legacy in artisanal leather goods tries to convince us to pay big bucks for something that is veeery far from leather and art of any kind. :D
