I love this song because it speaks to my soul! Thank you 💓
Psalm 137:1-4
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
4 How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?
I was blessed to have taking a photo with Maestro Warfield (as he signed my program) back-stage at the main theatre on the campus of Florida State University. He was that evening's guest and marquee performer on the final day of a week's long tribute to Gershwin -- sponsored by University. What a memorable evening. By that time, his voice, as expected, wasn't nearly as strong-- but still effective. R.I.P., Maestro Warfield. Thanks so much for this, Randye :)
Oh wow I could listen to this man sing all day!

I heard of this song in Night Court Season 5 Episode 7 "Who was that smashed man?"
Always makes me tear up. Good song though
Why would someone thumbs down this??
Because it's a negative reminder of our collective lot in life. A bad reminder at that. Negro spirituals should be a thing of the DISTANT past and not modern times.
Nobody knows!
Beautiful. I wish Sheldon had sang the lyrics correctly on "Big Bang". "Nobody knows but Jesus"
This is the song zazu song on the lion king after mufasa died, instead of saying Jesus he said sorrow.
nobody knows. 😞

Such a song with profound words! Nobody knows my trouble and nobody will ever understand till they get in your shoe. Its only God.
