now you are into the lore. Keep track of the colors. He's wearing Red here. His insecurities (Blurryface) is in red and that's their colors. So he's on his own journey. The black hands and neck is his burdens (like NF with the balloons). When you start to do the Clancy album, on your own time, do the I am Clancy video. It'll make a little more sense. Josh (the drummer) is Tyler's guide to a free mind! You'll start to see more from HeavyDirtySoul (Blurryface is the driver). Then Jumpsuit, Nico and Levitate (rap heavy) will start to make sense. After Levitate, The Outside is HARD!

This was filmed in their childhood homes. (His mom is still alive, that was just part of the MV of the characters in My Blood)
His hands and neck are both covered in black paint to cover up his insecurities in his music (vocals/writing)
The deep voice at the end is Blurryface...Blurryface is like the personification of all his bad thoughts/insecurities etc so in this album Tyler is sort of discovering Blurryface and figuring out how to defeat him
The story develops from here over the next 3 albums but this is the first song he actually mentions "Blurryface" - also the title of this album

Tyler's hands and neck are black in this (and many) videos, but are not tattoos. That represents Tyler's insecurities over his lyrics that he writes (hands) and the songs that he sings (neck). Welcome to the idea of Blurry-face. When Tyler's hands and neck are black, he is under the control of Blurry-face, also known as Nico. You can see Nico put the black on his neck (and it spreads) in the video for the song Jumpsuit. I guess these videos have been recommended to give you a start of this band, but the lore itself is in HeavyDirtySoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners and Levitate for the beginning. So add those to your must listen/watch list. There are more, but that is the usual starting point. Have fun, and you'll find yourself caught up in it. You won't have to wait for more of the lore, as it is all out there now.

i love that the band has said in interviews recently that they are still proud of this song. some artists get sick of their 'hit' songs but josh said they put just as much care into this song as every other song on this album and still enjoy playing it and seeing the way the audience reacts to it.
i love the way they use the colour red and the deep voice to represent blurryface visually and sonically. tyler said he cretaed the character Blurryface so that he could confront his insecurities by giving them 'a name and a seat at the table'. he said everyone knows what they're insecure about but its harder to identify how you compensate for those things, are there things you do or avoid because of your fears.

Pertaining to my comment on My Blood, THIS is the only album that I don’t have on vinyl. Also something to remember; not all song have to do with lore. This one…yes. It is our introduction to Blurryface. Tear In My Heart is not part of the lore. Just a really good song Tyler wrote for his wife.

Such a classic banger, and probably the song that put TOP on the map! This song kind of unofficially starts the lore, because it's the first time you hear the name Blurryface ("My name's Blurryface, and I care what you think"). Blurryface is another name for Nico, who is the evil Bishop guy in the red robe who grabbed Tyler/Clancy by the throat at the end of the Paladin Strait video!
U guys need to react to the lore music videos is order as much as possible lol, heavy dirty soul, jumpsuit, nico and the niners, levitate, Saturday, the outside, overcompensate, navigating, then paladin straight. Love the reactions guys

I’ve been listening to this song since 2015 and just realized the line “between student loans and tree house homes, we’d all take the latter” could also be ladder (climb a ladder to a tree house). I always just assumed between 1 and 2, we’d pick 2

You are so corrects about being able to like the music without the lore but there’s levels to the lore also. You can follow the story to a certain extent & follow along with the songs as you guys intend but if you really enjoy a challenge you can deep dive into a whole heap of backstory & puzzles & information that uncovers a whole world. But you don’t have to you can just enjoy whatever part you like 😁
The comments are giving you the songs needed for the lore but I want to add a few that aren’t lore but have information that helps with the lore..fairly local -the origin of FPE, chlorine- intros Ned (you will understand eventually) & Neon Gravestones. Also Shy away-song has no lore but intros a character.

Very interesting... But not that deep. Done nice lirics, nostalgic, but basically the song is just saying it was better as a kid, growing, being an adult is too much stress. Not subtle, no metaforic, just how nice childhood was...
