Following from previous video, recap on how the MOT went and how the drive revealed a major issue with the car! Thanks for the support on the last video!
Bit of a pain having that noise develop, but the silver lining is the car will get a good going over now. Something would've left you stranded seeing how loose some bolts are etc
Exactly that, its a perfect opportunity to go over the car with a fine tooth comb, and have some improvements along the way. And as you say I would much rather find loose/ missing bolts now than on the road. Thanks for the support!
Rear suspension on these are a doddle - easy fix. 10 minutes pulls the entire strut & all the attached stuff per side. The brake travvel is often the cross-bar across the firewall - pedals on the left, masters on the right - a big dopey rod connects them - check it & all the ickle linkages for slop. Engine out is 2 hours, gearbox off is under an hour no bother - 30 minutes if you're in the right mood - so if the clutch/.flywheels borked, no biggie. That starter sounds ballixed - it or the ring gear. Do the starter first - only just started watching, so if you did already, sure no harm no foul. :-) These are so basic there's nothing on them to be afraid of. Except the electrics.. be afraid of the electrics.. they terrify me.,. "NLA!!"
Hey thanks for the tips, yeah they do fall apart fairly easily, unfortunately it seems the gearbox is at fault - a shame as it was a reconditioned unit! No worries there is a plan! Haha yes the electrics have been played with on this car, keen to get the twin coils working so may be a little bit of multimeter work to do in the future!
@@cosworthbuildYT those are such a boggo gearbox, they're not a lot to be scared of either. It would be getting pulled apart for a goo inside. "What's up, ickle fella?" :-)
@@cosworthbuildYT I spend a lot of time working on these for people who know them inside out as well - there isn't really a square inch of them I don't know off by heart at this stage. I get one finished, another rolls in - or another same era Ford. On average, I do one front to back in a month - I'd do it faster but I'd keel over if I tried - I dunno would it be possible to do one properly in less time, maybe if I was 20 I could, but I'm 50, so it takes me a month. "My Bit" is the strip-out / metalwork / filler prior to paint - they leave in primer, running gear off, engine out, bare interior, all glass out to go get painted by "We Paint Posh Stuff" - I don't advertise, I don't hugely care who inspects what's done as it's right - cars I work on are usually Owners Club owned, so the people paying the bills know the story/what's B.S.. Meh - yeah, that's where I come at this from. I kinda eat/sleep/breath them. Sorry to bore on. I usually fit an Iveco/Merc or some other yoke or 3 into that month as well - just to keep the mix interesting - a lot of vehicles roll out the gate for a 1.5 man Outfit. I'm in Ireland & I get UK cars & Jersey/Isle of Man cars dropped in for work - so I must be doing something right now & then. That's a long way to come for some Old Lad to do a bit of welding.
Keep the head up it's a beautiful car and will be well worth all the hard work Denis from Ireland 🇮🇪 💪 👍
Thanks Denis, yes for sure, little bit of a headache but it will be better in the long run for it!
Cheer up its all part of the journey these cars are always testing us in some way..

Never knew about the 69 I've had one since 97 how can you tell the manifold is a 69.
Remove starter and check
