Can we appreciate they had the balls to make the ending what it is. If I recall, the book ends without you knowing their final fates.
For real! Yeah, that's what I read in Oscar's comment- that the radio in the car just says something about "Hartford", and they keep driving.
This film has one of the most messed up endings ever. However, it has a very important moral: never give up on hope.
For real!! When I write a book one day, "The Procrastination of Hope"
Yeah thatâs the whole point. They can stand up to anything ⌠except the death of hope.
I think the theme isnât as decisive as âdonât give up hopeâ and more of a juxtaposition of the extremes of hope - on one end you have an extremist version of having faith that leads to death(s) and on the other end you have the complete absence of faith that also leads to death(s)
@@mmcreads That's a really great point. I never considered it that way before.
A rare example of a movie ending better than the original ending. đ
I've been told the original ending now, and YES, completely agree Wesley!

Can we appreciate Marc !!!! He is an icon, he hates scary movies and heâs putting the graft in for the next few weeks đ great reaction guys, king is king
Hahhaha oh Eoin, after that high praise, there'll be no living with him now. I love the way he reacts to stuff too, honestly. And his family are the same way- it's so much fun when they come to visit and we watch a dramatic or scary movie because you can hear the gasps all around the room in stereo followed by "AYYYYYY no!!" lol

This movie is incredibly underrated. That ending had me mentally messed up for days the first time I saw it.
Yes! I really thought it was going to be a fake out, or a dream sequence, etc., but nope. Just plain devastation.
Me too. And everytime there is mist outside I automatically think of this movie, although I've first seen it many years ago. It's one of the few movies who simply got stuck in my mind. However, despite the disturbing end, my main takeaway was: don't give up, hang on until the very last second.
My friend never wants to see this movie again after I showed it to her lol
The monsters in this are horrific but the real scare IMO is how people can turn so quickly into the scariest of scary monsters.
After watching Nikki and Steve absolutely shit on this movie for a full reaction, it is such a breath of fresh air to see you two actually pay attention and think about the characters.
Agreed.
Honetly, I think maybe there's two kinds of horror movie fans. Those who are scared by paranormal stuff and those who are more scared by the movies where the real theme the horror of human nature.
Nikki and Steven are definitely paranormal types.
They loved Insidious, but I even saw it in the theater and it was...fine. I never got why people think it's so amazing, though, because it seems like just another basic horror film to me.
I'm also only rarely scared my paranomal stuff, because I don't believe in much of it.
Nikki and Steven treated this kind of like a cheesy creature feature, whereas, although David made jokes too, he also understood that what they were really portraying was the human condition. Nikki and Steven, though, just couldn't get past their usual "That's so stupid! If I were there I'd be running away already...blah blah blah" commentary.
I guess maybe their reaction to this film made me realize that the reason their reactions to films like Insidious are entertaining is because Insidious wasn't a movie that stuck with me. It was just a basic horror movie, so laughing at Nikki yelling "no bitch!" a million times is funny and doesn't bug me because I couldn't have cared less about the movie itself.
Although, I must say, it's pretty rich they were laughing at the tentacle monster this but not demon who's Tiny Tim fan in Insidious. That looked just as fake.
This movie has the most savage ending of all time, and it's one of my favourites
For real though!! I was shocked.
Iâm only 5 minutes in and loving Marcâs mist-related puns and âyouâre letting the mist in!â đ
The mist itself (and its monsters) come from the "thinny" - a Lovecraftian/nightmare space between dimensions from King's Dark Tower series of books. Jane is painting a Dark Tower poster in scene 1 - specifically Roland passing through the thinny.
Ahhhhhh interesting! Yeah a friend of mine was asking me if I knew anything about the Dark Tower series, and I'm guessing this was why :)
Thanks for the info, @g g gooding!
@@DavidvsFilm Most if not all of Stephen King's books are related to The Dark Tower series in some way or another. It's sort of like a multiverse thing where some characters have a presence in multiple worlds or books. It's kind of complicated, but I love it. The Dark Tower series is up there with The Lord of the Rings as my favorite book series, and it was always fun to read other books of his to see the tie-ins.
Finally you watched The Mist! This is my favorite Stephen Kingâs movie!!!
I knew you would love it just as much as I did. And that ending⌠GOOOOOOOD!! So awful and unexpected!! Completely heartbreaking
Plot twist: So, when the filmmakers got The Mist rights for the movie, they planned a different ending for the movie than from the book itself.
In the book, the story ends when they are in the car and see the Behemoth (the giant creature at the end) and without David knowing about his wife, they just continue down the road with a faint radio signal blurting the word âHartfordâ, providing some hope. But they decided to go with this awesome, incredible, stunning and heartbreaking end⌠and i totally loved it!!!
A terribly heartbreaking ending!!! But I mean, I honestly love when movies take chances like that. And I also really like over the top drama, so I was cool with it. :) Thanks for the background as usual, O! I'm glad we've finally seen your favorite SK movie!
That ending is so messed up đ Loved your take on the moral of the story: procrastinators know whatâs up. Lol
Also the Ursula comment cracked me up đ
Hey friend!! Haha thank you- I almost cut the Ursula comment, but with Marc's "America's Got Talent level" impression of Ariel singing, I mean, how could I? lol. And yes! Procrastinators unite! (tomorrow, or the next day, we'll see)
The Mist is a great novella and a great film. Frank Darabont made a outstanding film adaption to one of my favorite Stephen King novella. I loved that some of the actors was on The Walking Dead and The Shawshank Redemption. Awesome reaction.
A lot from the Walking Dead!!!! I was shocked at how many, and I actually completely forgot Andrea until afterwards (probably because she wasn't my favorite on Walking Dead). But LOOOOOVE me some Carol on WD!
Thank you for watching and letting us know your thoughts on it as always Mr. â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
I hope these "as we go" helps
1. In context it is similar to what King did with The Stand except in this case it's monsters and not a virus.
2. Jeffery DeMunn is known as a favorite of director Frank Darabont, who has cast him in all four of his
films: "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), "The Green Mile" (1999), and "The Mist" (2007). All King
adaptations. He was also in what King himself says is the best adaptation of his work. "Storm of the Century".
3. William Sadler also was in Shawshank and The Green Mile.
4. Frances Sternhagen was in "Misery" by King.
5. Marcia Gay Harden kills this role.
6.The big guy that goes out with the rope around his waist was going to be King doing that role himself, but he was
shot down by Darabont.
7. This is not how the book ends. Darabont wanted this ending. King later said that as horrific that it is he likes
better than his.
8. Stephen King. You're welcome.
Thank you, William!! All great trivia that I love. I don't know as much about Storm of the Century..

Ugh! The most devastating ending ever! Amazing but heartbreaking. The roar that erupted in the theatre though when Mrs. Carmody got shot in the head!! Same producer as the first season of The Walking Dead. He hired a bunch of this cast. Thomas Jane was supposed to play rick but HBO passed and by the time AMC took it, he wasn't available. The army guy that got sacrificed was the tank zombie in season one of TWD. He was supposed to have a back story but it got cut. And yes he played a vampire on the America version of Being Human.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh that makes sense then. Also, a friend of mine pointed out that this came out 3 years before TWD, so my theories about them catching a group flight from Atlanta to Shreveport to film this in the off time didn't pan out lol
13:40 đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł "He wasn't half the man he used to be." Snarky queen!
to this day my family and I still call this movie the "holy shit movie" because these were the only two words we could all utter in the end đ I consider it one of the best horror movies I ever watched just by how raw and unsettling it is that even though we have this ominous mist with extradimensional creatures, the true terror are the people and their lack of reasoning, empathy and hope (which is way too realistic).
They were creatures from another dimension. Remember the soldier kid from the store that they sacrificed throwing out to the giant lobster creature? He said that the scientists had opened a window into another dimension that I believe they lost control of when they lost power during that crazy powerful storm
Ahhhh yes, that's right!! Thank you Eddie!
âI think sheâs allergicâđ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł
Haha. Jury's still out..
The Military guy said that it was the Military opening up doorways to other worlds right before he was stabbed. So basically their secret project opened portals to other dimensions.
Thanks, @sca88!! Yeah, I know- what is wrong with us?? He literally said it, and you can see us watching him say it, then the outro: "Did we ever find out what it was??" Jesus. All I can claim in our defense is that maybe we were looking for some elaboration and more details. We'll go with that lol.
the painting he's working on at the beginning of the film is of Roland and the Dark Tower Series. The Dark Tower is King's greatest work and this and pretty much all of his books tie into the Dark Tower universe. Also the kid that plays the main soldier boy is the voice of Darth Maul.
And since there's not a sequel. The monsters in the Mist came through a doorway the govt. made. The doorway leads to either another world/dimension (possibly MidWorld/ EndWorld of Roland's plane of existance), or simpley to Todash space. the space between dimensions where the ancient ones dwell
Yes it is Sam Witmer...I know him as 'Crashdown' from Battlestar Galactica but he has been in a few different shows like Smallville and Being Human.
Loved seeing the Caddo Parish Fire Department truck and then the interstate signs directing you to Portland, Maine and New Hampshire. LOL If I'm not mistaken it was filmed close to Blanchard around Caddo Lake, but I'm not sure. Marc's reactions are priceless. The best comment of all was at the end when Marc said "I'm MISTified". đ
Haha right?? Yeah and I think youâre right about Blanchard. But their house is Cross Lake for sure- you can see the Cross Lake Bridge in the background ;)
"I'm mystified " and "it's Ursula, give her your voice"... I wish I could double like a reaction đ
Thank you, @jlerrickson!! We just call it out as we watch haha. Hey and thanks for leaving a comment :) Appreciate the feedback!
@@DavidvsFilm honestly, I think Marc was brewing mist puns the entire film, but it takes natural talent to pull one out at the right time đ
I was always way more scarred of the religious group than the mist creatures. Accept the spiders (full body shivers)
The book ends diffrently and Steven King says he likes the movie ending better and wishes he would've thought of it.
Great reaction!

Thank you so much William!
David and her friends should have found hope when they saw the giant creature at the end of the film, because this creature is called "Behemoth", the Behemoth is a creature from the Bible and it is said that when it roars, it means that peace and quiet will soon return...
Happy 1 year anniversary!đđĽđ

I was thinking at the start that mark is the perfect foil for these scary movies and youâll have to comfort each other when itâs over. Thatâs for the only fans channel.
Oh God! lol. You are right about him being the perfect vicitm, er, viewer for these movies. IT Chapter 2 should be some craziness next week lol.
Watched this for the first time years ago during a Halloween gathering with a few friends. We though it was going to be a fun monster movie w jump scares. Fck were we wrong. Errryone was jacked up afterwards.
God yes that's how I was with Babadook! I thought it was gonna be a fun jump-scare type movie, and afterwards we just stared at the tv for a minute.
@@DavidvsFilm Oh damn, yes, The Babadook is not happy-fun party fare lol!
You're right. They finally made a movie where procrastination could have saved the day.
All it would have taken was "I'll kill you all after lunch ok?". And then happy ending.
The Mist was directed by Frank Darabont who did Shawshank and The Green Mile and actually executive produced the first couple seasons of The Walking Dead. One of my favorite films where Frank came up with that ending because in the book there just drive off. Stephen King said if he had thought of it this would have been the ending to the book.
The old lady was also the mother of Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh "Thank You" Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) on The Closer.
Oh really?? You know that is a show I need to revisit. I only saw a couple of episodes, but I remember loving what I saw (specifically her). Didn't it have a spinoff with Mary McDonnell?
@@DavidvsFilm yes, the spin-off was Major Crimes with most all but two of the other cast members remaining. I HIGHLY recommend The Closer! Heck, if you reacted to it, that would be amazing... I would certainly watch.
To me, this one is the most horrific movie Iâve ever seen. What makes it so awful is how true to life it feels when it comes to humans being terrible to other humans! It was such a hopeless feeling even with the military coming in at the end.
Such an entertaining reaction! Even with all the puns. I guess. Hehe â¤
Puns? Me?? Surely you jest, good woman.
I cracked up at the point of âGrab the Boniva, mama has brittle bones!â (Still laughing). If you liked this movie, you may like Dream Catcher. I never read the book, but the movie is really good. It has a few well known faces in it. If you watch that one, youâll notice the repetitive nature of King. Many of his story lines are parallel with other King stories.
This movie does an extremely good job at portraying how people are primitive and in a dire situation when everyone is scared and it looks like there is no hope, then people will turn to anything or anyone that offers a solution. This movie does an extremely good job at portraying that realistic aspect of humanity with the religion cult thing.
Marcia Gay Harden is the real villain of this movie, and she's so good! She's also in one of my all time favorite movies, ''Miller's Crossing'' (1990) by Joel & Ethan Coen.
Oh don't get me started- I LOOOOOVE her!!! She's so good in everything. Even in this- she's so good that she makes me hate this character.
I love horror movies that make me cry like a baby
Sam Witwer played a vampire in Being Human. One of my favorite shows actually haha.
~Are you in good hands?~
Hahahaha ARE you in good hands??? I was like, we HAVE to give props to Jordan. lol

they explain in the film that the military opened a portal to another world ( a place called the macroverse in stephen kings writings.) and they accidentally let these alien creatures in.
ahhhh ok gotcha. Yeah I remembered the MP saying "we did this" or "this is our fault" etc, and then Jessup talking about the windows or looking into creating them, but I wasn't clear if that's actually what this was. Or that they definitively cause it, etc. So thanks!!
Loved your humor in this video, helped me get over that ending I hate lol. I LOLed so much at the mini tribute for the bag boy and when the joke of being the worst pinata hitter came up. Overall this movie is very upsetting and I feel the same way every time I see it. It's good but very hard hitting because of all the characters you care for.
I have not seen the show based on the short story, I hear pro n con with it but if you have seen it love to hear your thoughts on it. Quite a few WALKING DEAD actors here of course Frank Derrabont being involved and I can relate to Thomas Jane's character. Great review as always.
Thanks buddy! Yeah, I thought there was a show, but I did not remember hearing a lot about it. I did watch Walking Dead back in the day, but finally dropped off around Season 124. #hershel4-eva
B-movie? Granted, it was only $18mil budget, but it was 2007. And at the time Thomas Jane was A-list. While he, Marcia Gay Harden, and Toby Jones are all three critically acclaimed actors. Marcia even has an Oscar.
Hey I was pretty close on the budget!! Yeah, re: the. B list reference, you have to remember Marc is thinking A-list in his terms of the actors he knows as a casual movie watcher like Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise. He's not as big of a fan of movies in general like you would be, so Toby Jones he definitely does not know, and even Thomas Jane. MGH he knows, but not from things you or I would probably love her in like Pollock or Mystic River (or even my favorite Used People), rather from seeing her recently in Uncoupled.
The soldier who got sacrificed in this movie looks exactly, exactly like the character Star Killer from the video games Star Wars The Force Unleashed and Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2. Dead @$$ he looks exactly, exactly like that.
Yep, he played a vampire in Almost Human (US version).
I just read recently that in the old book of the Christianity there are 2 giant creatures, one represent the hope and good thing and the other represent the death.
The creature that they saw at the end before him killing them, was the the one who represents the hope and survival .. but all of them didn't know or noticed because they were only focused on surviving.
It's was the alien creature but another creature that everyone has knowledge about that would remain calm and feel safe.
That what read some time ago on Reddit maybe
Oh really?? Thatâs a cool take on it. Thank you, Mohammad! I appreciate you sharing that.

Thanks for reading my comment and your reply,
And yes, that was crazy when i read that point of review and how it all connected to the theme of the story - the religious side of the story that King loves to put in his novels - and i think the crazy lady in the store mentioned the redemption and salvation but in a very crazy way that lead to the chaos not to be calm.
I am sorry not to remember the name of that creature but i almost blown away by that.
Ironically if the crazy lady saw that creature she would known it for sure and get out of the car because of what it's represent to any believer.
Sorry for my long reply, but i really like discussion about movies with everyone .. you are doing great work .. Keep it up guys.

A bunch of the cast of this movie were on the walking dead. You have carol andrea and dale lol. The director frank is the one who was the show runner for the walking dead for the first 2 seasons and they were all friends
This 2007 movie cost a total of 18 million US dollars to almost 20 million, the budget though depends on the quality of the movie, at the time this was considered cutting edge graphics and the budget back then was 10 to 20 million for High quality HD movies, but in the last roughly 10 years or so we have come very far with CGI, so today a movie like this using the best technology would cost roughly 50 to 100 million in today's money, That's just in the matter of 10 years, in the last 20 to 30 it has significantly changed, back then it was in the Hundreds of thousands.
The movie did briefly explain the mist. Something about opening a doorway to another dimension.
Brilliant movie
I'm just here for your reaction to the ending. You did not disappoint. đ đ¤Ł
This is one of the few times I don't like the director's cut. All he does is make it black and white. While some people say this adds to the film, I respectfully disagree.
Fun Fact: Frank Darabont agreed to make the film with Dimension only under the condition that no matter what, they wouldn't change the scripted ending. They agreed.
Black Mesa Fact: The original Stephen King novel was also the inspiration for the video game Half-Life (1998), where scientist at a top secret military base are running experiments with inter-dimensional portals and open the flood gates to its hostile inhabitants.
Gun Enthusiast Fact: Amanda has an empty six-shot revolver and two full speed-loaders in her purse. This means there are twelve rounds of ammunition for the revolver. During the course of the movie, exactly twelve rounds are fired before the revolver is out of ammunition.

Interesting Fact!
Stephen King (he wrote the original book "The Mist") actually liked the Ending of this Movie more than the Ending of his own book.
Yeah that's high praise for sure!!
Sam Witwer was in Being Human about a werewolf, vampire and a ghost. He was also Doomsday on Smallville, Agent Liberty on Supergirl, and Mr. Hyde on Once Upon a Time.

I hope you and Marc are also goin' to watch and react on my favorite Stephen King movie, ''Salem's Lot'' (1979), well, it is actually tv two-part mini-series. Btw, the first time I noticed Thomas Jane was in (also one of my all time favorite movies) ''Boogie Nights'' (1997) by Paul Thomas Anderson (again, one of my favorite directors).
I didn't realize he was in Boogie Nights!!! And with Salem's Lot, one of my friends over on Patreon recommended that as favorite Stephen King pick! I put it on the poll, but alas it did not make it. I plan to include it again next year though :)
Iâm *so glad* Mrs Carmody got killed. And I loved the tough ending.
The Mist TV series was a different take on the same story but it is still a great show even though it only has 1 season.
23:37 nice đŚđŚ
Haha I was wondering if you'd be one of the ones who caught that.
This is another King/Darabont collaboration. I think, like the novella it's just too intense for the masses . I only read it once a decade or so even though it's one of my favorite King stories. It didn't do well at the box office because it was too much even for horror fans. My fantasy movie is a remake of the Shining with Darabont directing.
More reactions together đ
One of the greatest movies out there. Hope you can do It or Dark Water
We already saw the first part of It a few years ago, BUT we're watching Chapter 2 tomorrow for the channel. It will be up one week from today ;)
@@DavidvsFilm damn I'm slow. Do Dark Water, you're gonna piss the peach juice. đ
It"s the story from the game Halflife if you want to know what it was ... the Arrowhead project ...
Ahhh thank you!!
This is true HORROR- where everything they did led to the worst possible tragedy.
Worse still, Mrs. Carmody was right- every crazy prediction came true- even the death of the boy bringing the end of the Mist.
this is the Cloverfield of Half life.
Wish you would react to Cujo. It's a great book and movie and as a dog lover it makes it even harder/better. And Predator..been hinting to that I think forever đâşđ
I try to give poor Cujo a chance as much as I can, but it keeps losing the polls :( But I'm not gonna abandon that psychotic pooch yet- one day!! And Predator YES- as I attempt to get more organized (maniacal laughter) with the channel, I am going to start doing themes with the movies each month. Just as this one was Stephen King September, I plan to do a Schwarzenegger month sometime in 2023, and I want to include it.
@@DavidvsFilm And the female heroine theme...don't forget about that idea...like iconic women month or something. You're doing great amigo...I see nothing but success for youđ
What's not shown is that had been driving for like 2 weeks. They ran out of hope.
2 weeks? Wow. Yeah I can imagine they would!
Also the old lady played Trey's mother on Sex and the City. So this wasn't her first time trying to fight off hideous monsters trying to take over. Charlotte wasn't nothing but a gold digger.
OMG that's right!!!!!!! I forgot about her in that role!!
itâs Arbor Mist, the worst kind of mist đđđ
"Abraham sacrificed his son to prove his love for god" wtf kind of god would ask that from anyone? Sounds more like devil's work to me. đ¤¨
Well I hate it, but it's just about worth suffering through this shit just to hear iconic lines like 'her face blew up like Liz Taylor in the 80's'
Ha, nope! Iâll see ya next reaction⌠this movie is on my âNever Againâ list, and Iâmma nope on out. I know many love the new ending, and cool, to each his own, but it totally perverts the original IMO. Instead of giving hope, it blows it away (literally). Ew. Enjoy, and Iâll see ya next time. đ
Hahah hey totally understand, Steve!! But I'm so appreciative because even if you don't like the movie, you always leave a comment. And that helps out the channel anyway, so thank you my brother!
@@DavidvsFilm Heh, and left a thumbâs up, too. đđź Just because I donât like a specific film, doesnât mean I canât support one of the most entertaining reaction channels on CZcams. đ
