    I love this, you just don't see cakes like this very often anymore. My mom started her own cake business the year I went to kindergarten in 1971 and this cake looks a lot like the cakes and royal icing flowers she used to make.

      Thanks Kathy, It's a classic. I love these types of cakes as well. Actually, it has been quite some time since I have made royal icing flowers. It was fun and brought back some beautiful memories of my sister in laws cake in the 1980's. xo Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

    I've never worked with royal icing so I find it quite intimidating, but I like the fact that royal icing flowers will keep for ages once you've made them, so that's a bonus!

    • @CakesWithLorelie
      @CakesWithLorelie  Před 4 lety

      Yes that is true. I like that as well. You just have to get used to working with it. To pipe flowers it needs to be quite stiff, to do fine piping it needs to be softer. You get used to it and start to know what it should look like for each task.

    I love the idea of piping onto toothpicks! The hardest part for me, is moving the flowers from the nail to the cake. It often alters a petal or 2 & it really bothers me to damage my flowers in applying them. This is a great solution!

    Please proceed with your plan. Would love to see an expert complete a bunch in real time. Your concept in doing them on toothpicks is exactly what I'd like to see. Please demonstrate different flowers and maybe a maximum of five types each time (ie 5-10 minutes per flower) as I am a newbie & probably most are. Also please inform us on best storage for each type. Hope this helps? Regards.

      Great question Beth. Overnight. They take the longest of all. Some of the flowers dry very quickly, like the daisies. The little stamens and Rose bases dry within an hour or less.
