Probably the most interesting and wierd minivan to exist, aside from the dustbuster GM vans
Dustbuster review coming soon!
Filmed one in Michigan!
He needs to find a stick-shift Ford Aerostar.
I'll have my 96 Supercharged previa running eventually. My 91 N/A is running like a dream!
Putting the handbrake between the front seats would expose a heat vent from the engine into the cabin. Since the engine isn’t front mounted putting it in the other locations wouldn’t work. Where it is means they just have to cable it to the rear wheels away from the engine bay. The Fiero has it there, and at least with the Previa, you can feel if it is up or down.
I love watching your videos! You review all the forgotten nostalgic cars from the 90’ and it takes me back to my childhood. So many CZcamsrs in the car community only want to review the latest and the greatest, neglecting the cars that made us car guys in the first place! Keep the vids coming!
I had a 2WD vanilla version of this, it was a lot of fun to drive, RWD mind you, good balanced weight distribution helped with this. The only things I did'nt like about it were: only one sliding door, and the room behind the seats is very small, not much room for luggage if your van is fully loaded with people.
i like that van even in manuel transmission mid engine work on engine without getting rained on. they pretty much awd.
The variety you have on your channel is so great!
I grew up with my mom buying 1 of these when I was 10. 3 of us kids, well, this van was everyone's first car to get a driver license. Plenty memorable summer vacations with this van loaded up and twisting through mountains. All my friends loved this car. Piled up everyone and went to see Tool in this van. Sadly it got too sick after 300k miles and my parents sold it a few years back. Someone texted me a picture of it driving around last week 😂 wish my parents would have kept it 😔 probably would have had to replace a rear main seal and a few other items to make it worth keeping
It's great to see a fellow Wisconsin van on the channel.
Zack, awesome review of the Previa. Enjoyed watching it with mastalgia. Indeed, one of the weirdest drivetrain layout passenger minivans to exist today. Great job!
They probably put the e brake there because of where the engine is located
I’ve got a 1998 Sienna in mint condition and it drives beautifully
The underdog king of any vehicle smaller than a fullsize truck. It tows the same amount as most compact trucks, and has AWD. I want to buy one and lift it!!!
Worth every penny.
Hey man sweet vid! Previas are so cool. I have a 95 supercharged previa with the captain's chairs in the middle and the back third row seats. we love it!
Not at all a soccer mom van because of the manual transmission. I love it.
Very cool of you to recognize and appreciate the coolness are minivans past.
1991 models didn’t have an airbag, so this might actually be a 1992 model.
Also, this Previa has the third brake light, which I believe the 1991 Previas did not have.
Nice vid Zack!
I’m supposed to be decorating my Christmas tree but it’s your fault it’s not getting done! Your awesome!
Egg. An interesting attempt to break into the then-hot minivan market. Unfortunately the US minivan market was pretty traditional so these and the dustbuster vans were too far out. These continued in their egg shape in other markets for several years more where it was called the Estima and was available in different widths as well as lengths. You never see these any more which is a shame because they're so unique. Chrysler did manual minivans off and on for a few generations, some even available with the turbo engine. The Aerostar was available with a manual because it was basically a Ranger van. The Astro/Safari could be had with a manual because they were S-10 vans. None could be had with AWD and manual so the Previa is unusual.
These are really cool. Like em. 😊❤
Keep these reviews coming. Interested to see an update on your Mazda3 hatch.
They actually kept selling the Previa (Estima) in Japan until 2019, the Sienna was designed for the US once Toyota realized Americans wanted more power.
I have a 1992 previa awd, it's the nicest one I have ever seen. 124,000 miles, sadly I hardly drive it. I drives better in the snow than my Jeep Wrangler
Super cool. Nice van! Mine has 200k miles. I wish it was in better condition.
My brother and his then wife had two of them when they lived west of Sydney Australia. I don’t know if either was all wheel drive but it probably wasn’t necessary as they probably never encountered ice or snow. They of course had the steering wheel on the right and I’m guessing that both were automatics.
You found the unicorn previa. Awd, manual transmission is quite the rare combination!
love your video! I got a 92. thats why I looked this up. im the 3rd owner! in family. my seats rotate 90 degree backwards!
I have a Previa, it is a very good van, I will never sell it probably :-) it has a place for almost 'everything'. Thanks for your nice video here!
I have a 91 privia will keep it forever best van I have owned
Have been lobbying with the CFO in ny household to get one of it and wrap it in silver wrap to make it look like a teardrop/cybertruck.
The Previa S/C actually made more torque than the Chrysler 3.3 V6 (201 vs 194 lb/ft) in 1994 when it was introduced. The main reasons the Previa failed is that it looked really weird, was too expensive compared to the Chrysler vans and was too mechanically strange for most buyers at the time. At the time forced induction 4 cylinders were rare and mostly employed for performance cars, so people didn't really trust them long term even with a Toyota badge.
Ur the only other person on the planet who can comprehend that a 4 cylinder can make more torque and hourse power than a v6...
that sc14 makes big torque same with the 4agze engines with sc12
I love vans, previa is the hottest 🙌🏼🔥❤️ this spaceship is Toyota Lucida here..!
❤️ From Bangladesh 🇧🇩
You have to use a parking brake with an automatic transmission. Because if you don't, it will damage your parking pawl, meaning you can't put the car in park, leading to an expensive fix for a small broken part (it's very difficult to access, especially in something like the Previa).
In all cars with an auto
Dodge caravans used to be available with a manual .
Handbrake location allows more room for passthrough in middle/engine underneath.
Oh my God I need this as a ski car
The only car I have ever found to pass the big friggin bottle test was my friend's 2003 Toyota Sienna.
Saw one yesterday, Really rare to come up apon.
Very cool Toyota minivan especially with the engine under the seat vs under the hood
Check out 60s vans. The engine was in the center console.
@@bwofficial1776 the console AKA the "Dog house" lol
They couldn't put the parking brake in the middle, the engine was there. Putting it as a pedal in the driver's footwell could make most drivers confuse it for the clutch if it had a manual transmission (at least for the first time). So a regular lever near the driver's door was probably the only other option. Just a guess.
I need a new dust filter for my Hoover MaxExtract PressurePro model 60
did you review the toyota LE van?
Dude, if you like this you should check out the Honda STEPWGN (stepwagon) 1st generation, I worked with one and had a great experience with it, easiest thing I've ever driven
can anybody tell me the interior height from floor to roof?
I too like these very much
Are you planning on doing any work on these? They are a real bear to work on!
That van was freaking filthy lmao
Get the owner a Swiffer Duster
Today the Toyota Sienna would be the most reliable minivan.
Cool😀
I love it
Pls could you do a Chevy Uplander
Nice
I bet the engine was a bitch to work on based on the location.
To get to plugs and valve cover you take the passenger seat out and there is a hatch you un bolt and its right there.
the Previous Caleb needed to have...
If they had to put the emergency break on the left, I wonder why they didn't choose a pedal like older cars.
I think it is likely because of the wheel well taking up the space that the emergency brake pedal would take. It may fit for an automatic transmission that does not have a clutch pedal, but the manual with a clutch pedal would have to have the emergency brake relocated. So I think they just settled on putting the emergency brake handle on the left.
@@APham-ld9do Yeah, I never even thought about that.
Toyota's weird egg-shaped minivan. It is the only model that used this platform. Weirder then Ford Aerostar minivan
could thing they cleaned it all nice for the video.... lol
Why wouldn't you use the parking brake in an automatic? It's not good to rest the car on the parking pawl.
People just don't know lol
Trans Am Series Make Over,Maybe Rocket Bunny
I lowkey like these. I remember that series Gingium was doing about his. He lifted it and did some other cool lil things with it. Unfortunately not too many people liked the video series and he had to scrap it. But yeah I'm always kinda into this odd stuff. I really really like Ford Aerostars. Everyone at the shop is always dogging me about my weird taste in cars.
Thing was a rust bucket and he tried to turn it into something from Monster Garage lol
@@WildWildWeasel OH yeah I remember, there was one video he got Hella frustrated cause it was falling apart as he was trying to add something lmao. He made one hell of a come back from that video series.
@@bricegraham8256 Yeah, had he not hyped it up being a "mid engine Toyota" and maybe not bought a destroyed rust bucket, he would've succeded no problem...I remember I was excited cus I thought he was getting an MR-2 (I own a '96 and it's always been my dream car since I saw it in NFS Carbon as a bonus car) but nope it was a fuking basket case lmao
@@WildWildWeasel Yea true 😔.
👍
If only Toyota had partnered with Subaru so much earlier than they did, we could have had a mid engine, manual, all wheel drive, boxer 6 Previa. Speaking of the Previa, I worked on one of these once when I worked at a lube shop. It wasn't all wheel drive but it still had a drive shaft going to the front, not from a transfer case or center differential but from the front of the motor. I believe that was to power the cooling fan for the radiator. I was perplexed, you'd think an electric fan would have been more efficient.
this might be ugly but they are much more reliable than the more popular Chrysler ones
Damn bro, couldv atleast vacuumed the inside before showing the inside of the van
!!! Use your handbrake/parking brake in an automatic. Always. Yes, it has a "park". But all this does is jam up the gears. It doesn't actually keep the wheels from turning. When you take your foot off the brake in park and feel that wiggle the car does? Thats the driveshaft/differential gears bending, flexing. It's not meant to hold the car, it's just meant to be a backup if the handbrake fails.!!! ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ENGAGE THE BRAKE WHEN PARKING AN AUTOMATIC. why do you think cars have electronic parking brakes now? It's so that the car can apply its own parking brake because owners are dumb and don't do it.
I Will Put Up Flyers For Your Channel If You Like.
Definitely an odd one.
That bfb test is really really stupid... Why do you insist on doing that test with such a giant and not that common bottle? Do the test with some more common sized soft drink bottles or cups etc... And regarding the car... Over in my part of the world, those used to come with a diesel engine... I think they were 2.2 TD engines... Usually automatics... Actually over here they competed with the Chevy/GMC Astro/Safari vans and the VW Transporter (4th gen)... Frankly... In my eyes they are special for their shape, but as cars? Mehhhh... And especially such a barebone version like the one in this review? IDK doesnt seem to me like such a good deal even back in its days...
This comment fails the Big Friggin' Bottle test.
it's a bfb test, not a small ass 355ml can because lucky for you we also sell our shit in your metric country as well test, mr g. perry
