    What is the point of the hollow rim of a tamabuchi? It's a very interesting form.

      “Tamabuchi” is warmth in a word. We want to give warmth to the table.

      I think the point is in the beauty of it, being not too heavy. I like the zen of only a few black stripes on white.

      Tamabuchi means "bead edge" it refers to the rolled lip or rim on the bowl. As for its purpose: I think its a beautiful serving dish for your dining table.

      I'm not entirely certain about this, but the rolled edge allows for that form without the density and weight of a solid edge of the same size.

      In Japan, they are sold at pottery tool stores, but it is common to prepare bamboo and make it yourself.
