This young man is outstanding. Very creative and the way he played this Easter classic is like none other. The congregation and choir can lift their voices on Easter Sunday and proclaim that Christ the is Risen today Hallelujah! keep up the great work!
Amen! I love to hear that there are younger people [I'm 47] who appreciate traditional hymns. Nothing contemporary compares to the sound of an old fashioned hymn played on a church organ. There are still churches that have traditional worship services. Seek and ye shall find. :) May God bless you and I hope that you have a blessed Easter.
Great work pal, I've heard this hymn in many churches on many organs in my life, and I'm happy to tell you that your rendition is among the best! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for this! What a beautiful rendition of my favorite Easter hymn. I can not get through Mass without crying when I (try to) sing this through. The organist looks like one of my soccer players in high school!
You are very talented ! You did an EXCELLENT job on my favorite Hymm. You can search: Jesus Christ is Risen Today Notre Dame and see another version .... Your's is GREAT !
This reminds me a LOT of the old guy that used to play the great cathedral organ at the Crystal Cathedral back in the day.. could even be one of his arrangements.. it's superb playing of a superb arrangement!
I thought I had this video on my favorites list and I couldn't find it for today so I typed it in a song title search and am glad I found it. It's staying on my list now......this jams!!!
Way to go dude!! This is one of my favorite Easter Hymns. I could listen to this 1000 times and not get bored of it. The way you play, the stops you use and the improvisation you put in is amazingly AWESOME!! I am also an organist at my church in Oakbank, Manitoba, Canada and i like to try adding stuff to hymns when i play them. Some times it's not always successful but at least i try. haha. So well done!! Please make more. cheers!
As a child, this how I remember my church organist blasting this hymn out in an old New England white congregationl church in Easter Sunday morning. It still give me goose pimples... wONDERFUL!!!!
very good! I like the modulation and descant on the last verse - normally I'm a singer in the congregation (many in Church don't sing), but this is the kind of playing that would make me want to stop singing and listen... I can almost feel the vibrations from the organ on my computer :-) Nicely done.
And all GOD's people said, "WOW!" Very nice trill as you close that flutters the soul to be joyful, joyful. Your next stop should be Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in L.A.! BRAVO!ENCORE!
very nice. My Episcopal Church has a small Reuter(1980) it sounded very nice, but we are moving to a larger facility and its too small, so we are doing a hybred Reuter/Allen. thanks for posting , really enjoyed hearing you play
I am preparing to fly to the USA from Germany soon and look forward to attending an Easter Service in CA and singing this most beautiful hymn at Eastern.
I really like the use of the trumpet reeds in this rendition. This would be a most uplifting performance to lead a congregation. They would be thrilled as I was to hear it.
I go to Coventry Cathedral on Easter Sunday's not because of any paticularly strong religious convictions, but because their rendition of this hymn that day is always face meltingly fantastic.
Oh!! This was the most beautiful version I've ever heard this Glorious song played. Oh I have chills....breathtaking. The musician was absolutely 💯 outstanding!!!
awesome song!!! great to see another person likes to play with their shoes off... I feel like I would go and touch the wrong notes... done that many times before. Great tempo, and LOVE the prelude you did with it!! Really adds something to the song with it!
Excellent ! You are very talented Brent! I always looked forward to hearing this hymn at the Easter Vigil at Guardian Angel's Church (in all places, Las Vegas!)
Wonderfully played! I love how you did the first verse. I'm thinking of arranging a piano/ organ duet with the piano doing the lines and the organ doing the refrain of "Hallelujah!"
The Reuter organ has an impressive sound. I enjoyed this rendition of such a great hymn of the church. I hope more postings come from "brestull". Thank you for this enjoyable posting.
Absolutely stunning performance of this glorious Easter Hymn Brent! Love your trumpet 1st verse introduction. Your registrations give the inspiration this hymn demands. You are truly an awesome organist! :o)) Many a congregation would kill to have you sat at their organ bench! The 1968 Reuter pipe organ is wonderful. Sadly, I wasn't there to hear it live!! Ignore the non constructive commenters. Please post and share more of your magnificent talent. Best Wishes, Roy
Family members of Reuter Organ Company, Lawrence, Kansas, rode a train from Kansas to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to, amongst other things, hear the organ shortly after it had been installed in 1968. Heck of a train ride. Went down on a Friday nite and came back, by train, on Sunday nite. Six Flags in between, and other events. Heck of a deal. As I recall, the organist was not in this guy's league. This guy is tops.
When you went so full on verse 3, I was afraid you wouldn't have anywhere to go on 4, but looks like I didn't have to worry. Nice abrupt modulation too Thanks!
This song is already amazing and the way you play it is simply superb! It definitely got me stoked to hear it at Easter Mass! Happy Easter and keep up the great work man!
LOVED the improv!!! I have worked in churches for many years, but, I have never seen any organist (with the exception of an organist friend in Arizona & she has been at the console for many years) put as much love, heart, soul & JOY into this hymn as you have. For a young man of your age, I am in awe! Looking forward to more video posts soon. Thank you p.s. I plan to share this with my friend in AZ - She will love it!
Its a week before Easter 2020 and I noticed this video has over 220,000 views! That's incredible.... until you listen to it. Its tremendous. The video was made 11 years ago, but could have been made yesterday. Great hymns age well!
Just found this in looking for music for my Mother's memorial service and absolutely LOVED it. I think this would be terrific as the postlude!! Thanks so much for recording and making this available.
The only way other than having an entire orchestra and choir with an organ to play this song and have justice done unto it. Such a powerful and joyous song-such as this one-can only be truly appreciated if it is played on an organ, at least.
Sounds great! And that organ looks like it would be a lot of fun to play. One tip: Don't be afraid to give yourself time before and after you play! It will give you a stronger start and a more dramatic finish--especially in the acoustical sense, after you release the last chord. But very nice playing!!
This is really worth listening to Easter Sunday, year after year. It has the full energetic spirit that Easter means. Thank you for the the post, and please post more. Greetings from Adelaide, South Australia.
He is so good. Thank you for this music.
I've watched a million times and still can't get enough.

And all the people say Amen!

I play this video every easter morning since I've found it.
Do you still play it every Easter?
Love the unintentional underwear slip right at the beginning when you slide onto the bench!

Really awesome!
Our old Organist could play like this. God how I miss her. So many today drag these songs out and it’s depressing. These are hymns of praise!
Wonderful Job!!!!!!!!!!
still can't get over this
He plays better than people playing many more years.
I play your video every morning at full volume. No other rendition comes close!
I am preparing to fly to the USA from Germany soon and look forward to attending an Easter Service in CA and singing this most beautiful hymn at Eastern.

Congratulations on bringing out its majestic sounds.
Oh my goodness! And you're so young! *Thank you!!!*
How old are you? Love seeing young people take an interest in such a classic piece of American History. Great hymn played VERY WELL!
I go to Coventry Cathedral on Easter Sunday's not because of any paticularly strong religious convictions, but because their rendition of this hymn that day is always face meltingly fantastic.
this is, hands down, my favorite rendition of my favorite Easter hymn. Great job!

Most of my background is in more contemporary music, but I love to hear a joyous, celebratory organ solo. I only wish I could play it. This is great!
Talented and tasteful. Can't ask for more than that.
