A touch bezel, high quality microphone and speaker for calls, and a sleek & aesthetic design makes the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 a strong contender for the best smartwatch of 2019.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 was just released by Samsung and although it looks very similar to the Watch Active 1 released back in the spring, this watch is very different. In this video, I give an in depth and honest review of this watch to help you decide whether or not this is the device for you.

it will be the first smart watch i will buy. i always think of getting one but there is always something it does not do or have. but this looks fantastic
Me too. Just hope the GPS works ok, seen mixed results but have 30 days to try it.
Me Too!
Me too first smart watch I ever bought. I pre ordered it and it came with a Samsung wireless charger battery pack.
The price will probably go down by like 25 percent in 2 months, worth the wait.
@@johnsherrit316 just seen a video showing the GPS/ stepcount is pretty darn accurate
Such a very informative video, thank you so much. I've been researching this watch for a bit and I'm getting it.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
I've been researching it for quite a bit too and since this comment is year ago I'm pretty sure that you got it, so does it live up to your expectations? Is it good?
please please please do a video about the widgets options on this watch
thanks in advance
Which is best to buy, the stainless steel one or the aluminum one for casual purpose?
I would prefer aluminum over stainless ...if u need LTE then go for stainless
How well does it work with a non Samsung phone.
There was an update today and the touch bezel is now defaulted to ON
Excellent. I thought that was a strange thing Samsung did. Glad that was resolved. Thanks for watching!!
Still no update IN UK
Interestingly I bought mines yesterday and still had to enable the bezel feature. Super user friendly. No complaints.
Hi Mike! I've been watching your reviews and I have noticed that you tend to prefer the 40mm smart watches. Why you tend to prefer the smaller models? I'm currently deciding between the 40mm and 44mm of the Active 2 and I still don't know which one to choose. Any suggestions?
Can you give a comparison and difference between the Galaxy Watch and the Active 2, Is it worth going from the Galaxy watch to the Active 2
Video coming soon!
@@MikeOBrienMedia Will be awaiting this one.
You can get the Galaxy Watch with LTE but not the Active 2 and according to Samsung, no date set date for LTE on the Active 2.
@@LarryRichelli I thought you could get cellular on the Active 2. Thought I read that the LTE Active 2 watch has the stainless steel case and the Bluetooth only version was aluminium. I could be wrong tho.
What is the difference between LTE and non-LTE?
First of all nice video. Now about the storage... 4gb is roughly 1000 4min songs, ofc you don't have the full 4gb available, so let's go with 3gb - that's still about 750 songs. How long are you running for mate? :P
Were you reviewing the LTE version or the bluetooth version? Is there a huge benefit to having the LTE version over the Bluetooth?
Well done and very informative. Just got this yesterday as a birthday gift from my son after my years old Garmin Vivofit died. I'm an older tech challenged guy and my son took me through some basics and helped me select the watch face. After watching your video, I'm able to navigate through most of the features and I'll be watching this a few times to perfect my skills. Then, I'll try to impress my son with how cool his dad is ..... not ! BYW, I subscribed and look forward to the EKG update.
I've purchased the 40mm watch online without trying it on and my concern is as a male how small is it on the wrist? It seems good on you, is the size comparable to the Gear s3 Classic?
If you feel its too small, just buy a cover, to give it more bulk...
Nice review, can you confirm if Strava works smooth on this?
I hope they get this ECG thing together. . . that's what im anticipating the most!
Great review clear and to the point. Do you have any updates on EKG and fall features?
Do you need the LTE version to use samsung pay or can it be done with the bluetooth version?
After watching your Galaxy 4 watch video which brought me to this one I think I might be purchasing the GA2 ..LOL! This one seems more positive for less money. It does everything I'd want it to do and does it well. Thanks for the honest reviews.
Going to buy after seeing your review. Was going to buy online but would like to try on both sizes first. Guess I have to wait for the lockdown to end. Great review by the way, clear and to the point.
Hi Mike, Looking good man, like your videos! did you surf with the Active 2 in the ocean(salty water)?
did you have a video on how to setup the Samsung health app?
what kind of app you are using to stay in shape or plan a workout in the gym?
Shalom from Israel, Sahar \ :)
What is your experience with the sensors? I experienced GPS dropouts on the Active 1. This happened on all runs and basically made the watch useless for me for accurate running stats. Also sometimes when going on a run the Spotify offline just wouldnt work and I would have to redownload my list. This made for a couple of musicless runs :(
Can someone please tell me the difference between the stainless steel and the aluminum version? Also, is the stainless steel the only one with the LTE?
Best review I have seen
Excellent video. Thx.
can you help me, what exercise on samsung watch active 2 i used for body combat or cardio?
Hi plz can u do a video on comparison between Samsung active 2 vs fossil gen 5
And Fitbit Versa 2
I just ordered the lte version in aqua black it should be here in a day or two. I can't wait to finally get to try it out. This will be my first smart watch ever.
is there any way to install google maps??
Not natively. But there's an app called Navigation pro, which works well with maps. Once you've installed it, it gives you turn by tun directions on your wrist. Just fire up Google maps and you'll get it automatically synced on the watch. Great for bike riding.
You can buy this watch and have google maps on it or any other android app $159
Kospet Optimus Pro Dual System / WiFi GPS Smart Watch
No. Runs tizen. No google ecosystem.
how does it work.. is it bluetooth to your phone? does your phone have to be on? If you are running or swimming, do you need to bring your phone. does it link to bluetooth ? sorry don't know anything about smart watches
Great presentation, I'm very interested. ⌚ It will be my first. The variety of watch faces are attractive to me. Phone calls are also a huge step up! EM & texting as well. Etc etc haha 😉
waiting for Costco to have it on sale before picking it up
Thank you for this. I got a galaxy watct and my daughter just upgraded it to actuve 2. By watching your video kinda made me felt at ease to use it.
Thank you for this review. I've been back and forth between this and the Fossil Gen 5 (Ive watched both of your videos... great videos by the way), but the Samsung seems to be more responsive, quicker to perform functions. I'm holding out for the LTE Samsung Active 2.
Thanks! I agree with your analysis there. I think the Fossil is a great watch, and I am a big fan of their aesthetic, but Wear OS is inferior to Samsung's Tizen OS in my opinion. The Active 2 is more responsive and less clunky. The LTE version would be nice to have so that you are not bound by the 4GB limit when listening to music away from your phone. Thanks for watching! Enjoy your new watch!
I've done the same, I've got my active 2 coming tomorrow 👍
Mike O'Brien I am in the market for a watch to compliment my pixel. Can I read gmail on this watch and reply etc?
I'm holding out for the LTE version as well, do you know when it's going to be available?
@@DamienStenson & @Mike: I too am trying to pair a watch with my pixel 3XL & so far, debating between fossil series 5 & this galaxy active 2. any additional input/advice would be greatly appreciated! :)
I have the gear sport, it's time for an upgrade and this is perfect!
Excellent! Enjoy your new watch!
same here, my sport bezel just stopped working. probably because of the salty sweat.
Same. My gear sport had served me well since the day it's come out but its time for me to get a sport watch that has a speaker.
I'll be upgrading from my gear s3 to this.
I just bought this watch and am very impressed, however, I cannot seem to get the music aspect to work any tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Mike can we remotely call over wifi through the watch?
Thanks for the review. I simply cannot make my mind up whether to get Active 2 44mm or Samsung Galaxy Watch... Wish the Active 2 was 46mm. 🤔

What did you pick? Thinking of picking 2 of the same for me and my wife.
Thabk you so much for letting me know so much about this watch...it looks amazing and I am getting it.
Great video, extremely informative You hit all the points. Quick question do you have a brother that has his own CZcams channel as well? You both have a similar look and the same voice, just curious.
Yes, he is nste’s brother :)
Great review mate , very in depth and concise 👌👌👌
Thanks Chris! I appreciate it! I try to make these videos in depth, and I end up with 25 minutes of footage. I spend a lot of time trimming it down to make it as concise as possible. Glad you enjoyed it!
Best review ever of this watch, really liked it.... And what is the release date of this watch???
September 27
Thank you!! That means a lot to hear that. Thanks for watching!
So I just wanna make sure I understand this right. The only way to call & talk on your watch is if you get it with LTE?? just having Bluetooth it won't work ?
Nicely done, can you explain the LTE functions? How do I set the LTE version for accepting phone calls-on or off?
Hey Mike, I found the toggle for LTE. It's under watch settings on my S10. Mobile networks, open and close connection. Works well!
Great video! I seen/heard the speakeer quality, but can you play music through the watch speaker itself? If yes, can you bluetooth your phone to it and stream music to it, like Pandora?
How do you switch from Celsius to Farenheit?
Will all features work with a non-Samsung phone such as a OnePlus?
Alot of Samsung watches require Samsung messenger to be able to respond to messages. So if you don't have a Samsung phone you can only read messages on watch but not respond.
Do you know if it's true with this watch?
I have the Active 1 and a OnePlus 7 Pro. I'm able to get message notifications and respond as well so I'm pretty sure you can do the same with the Active 2.
@@alfredosantillanjr8036 thanks for that info. I was looking at getting active one and I have the LG v40. This may have sinched it
What about live security camera stream
Great review!! i'm worried about compatibility with my S8, will it still work together? i've just seen S9 and above and am worried about that
I've had it work with a google Pixel. I think a S8 should definitely work. It's just a bluetooth connection and the app
My note 8 works seamlessly with my 2 week old active 2.
@@ywkhgqo yes it works fine! the music apps (spotify and the music one it comes with) are glitchy but that's about it.
Will you do a comparison display between this one and the first gen?
I did make a comparison between the two. They are both very good and very similar, but the differences make the 2 worth it for me.
The 1 is shit
I'm pretty excited for The Samsung Galaxy Watch 2
If it ever comes.
Good for track intervals? Easy stop/start and recording runs? Thanks.
Very deep and understandable review. You reviewed everything. Thank you
Thank you!
Im enjoying your review thank you
Thank you!!
I bought the LTE version from Telus, but didn't find out until after that the LTE version only works with a Samsung phone. So... something to watch out for! Took it back and got the bluetooth only version. Great watch... except battery life
Amazing video sir!
Thank you! Your positive feedback really means a lot!
does the heart rate sensor actually works?
i love mine, just got it a couple days ago, the battery doesn't last very long though. after wearing it through the night for the sleep tracking it needs charged in the morning so maybe 12 hours battery, that's with wifi off (I have the lte version), Bluetooth off, brightness on low etc. kinda annoying to have to charge it every day, I expected every other day at most but still pretty happy with it
I'm torn between Fitbit Versa vs Samsung Active 2 watch. The only thing that holding me in buying Active 2 is the automatic detection of power nap. Versa 2 can do it.
Can Active 2 automatically record your power naps?
How about heart rate sensor during exercise ? I have old model samsung watch heart rate sensor stop detecting heart rate after 2km running ....
Lot's of reviewers mention poor gps, step counting and hr accuracy. For a watch called "active" this seems to be relevant traits..
There was an update to fix these issues

Hello mike o brien, I just watched your review and my birthday is coming up soon and I put the active 2 on my birthday list of presents. I have been watching lots of reviews on the active 2 and the galaxy watch 1 and I do prefer a physical bezel but if it is a touch bezel, that isnt gonna hurt me and the active 2 can power share charging on a phone and the galaxy watch 1 cannot si I've decided to go with the active 2 and the active 2 is newer
Great video! Can you scroll through your playlists on Spotify and select a song?
Yeah
Can someone explain about the speaker and phone thing? Because I know for the first watch, you can only pick up the call but u have to talk through your phone. For this watch, can you pick the call and also talk on the watch? I am trying to get it for my mom.
Is the stainless steel one more prone to scratches compared to the aluminium one?
Hi Mike! what's the watch face at 0.04sec? thanks.
Which watch do you prefer - the Active2 or the Skagen Fossil 3. I seem to remember the Fossil. I have a Fossi and an Apple Watch. i wear Fossil for going out - dressier things and the Apple Watch generally.
Now the 44mm active 2 costs about 195 usd and the galaxy watch 1 also costs 195 usd... which one should I buy?? I’m leaning more towards the active 2 as it’s newer...
Can anyone help me with a little issue I'm having please. I got the watch yesterday, turned on the zoom mode and I used it today and now I can't seem to get the face back to the normal size.
Any help please?
Thanks.
Just got mine on the 26th and loving it so far. Only issue is my sleep is not recording correctly. I might have a setting weird. The first night it did my rem and deep sleep perfectly. Since then I get an message saying it could not record it correctly. Do you know what I could be doing wrong. I did put it in the sleep mode when I go to sleep now. The first night I did the do not disturb mode.
What a great review. Good shit man
Thanks man!
Very impressive and intelligent presentation.

This watch is awesome and very unique...
Thank you for your positive comment! I am really glad you appreciated the video.
Way you not comment my commentary?!!!
I'm new to active 2 watch does my phone need to be on all the time?
Bro does this watch have maps??
Here we go
Would you choose this over the galaxy 46 mm?
Great video Mike, thanks for that. I did have an issue to discuss on Android watches though! Do let me know if this is the best place or if you would prefer email? One thing I look for in a watch is for the watch to complement the phone not replace it. But in doing that, if I can reduce the number of times one needs to pick the phone and do some of the actions on the watch it would be great. Eg. Actionable notifications are what I am after. A simple example would be an "Authenticator" app, why do I need to pick my phone to say "Approve" or "Deny" why can I not do that on the watch? I did notice that if I use a Samsung phone I get the option for some apps to "Tap to view actions" but most of the time not. Have you had any luck with that? Appreciate your help. Thanks.
I purchased the Active 2 on May 9th, and I went "swimming" with it for the first time on July 1st. It has a swim mode feature and is advertised as a device you can swim with - up to 50 feet for 30 minutes; I did neither of those things. I was wading in the pool, and after about 10 minutes, I noticed my watch was not working anymore. I went into the house, dried it off, and the back cover of the watch came loose and came off (it looked like it was glued on and the glue wasn't strong enough to hold it anymore). I took a picture of it, and I contacted Samsung. Right away the rep started saying that it's water resistant and not waterproof. I had a sinking feeling I was going to be in for a fight. And sure enough, I received a bill on July 7th for $219.79 - THAT IS ALMOST WHAT I PAID FOR THE WATCH! They said there was water damage to the motherboard, so my year warranty on the device is null and void. I've spoken to three different customer service reps, and Samsung is refusing to budge on this. One supervisor informed me I would be better off buying a new watch. She also said to file a complaint online, but there is nowhere to do that. The agent could not find the link for me. The agent then gave me a number to call, but it is no longer in service. I cannot believe this is happening. If anyone has any advice about how I can get a resolution to this, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
Awesome video.
How's the CZcams on it?
Hi. Thanks for the great video! Do you have video explaining more about the LTE version? I'm still thinking which one to get.
Samsung has no known plans to release the LTE version from my last call with them yesterday
@@LarryRichelli whaaat 😵😵😵
@@LarryRichelli What do you mean? I have just bought the LTE version in Denmark (E-sim). It is also in stainless steel.
I think this watch has a great value. Significantly lower price than Series 5 from Apple
Do you need to download apps for the HR and sleep record or does it come installed? I've never had a smartwatch so been looking at all the reviews on several types (to many to choose from 😵) it gets over whelming. I have a Motorola phone can I still get Samsung apps installed on it so the watch would work?
Any advice on how to get the battery to last longer? I do use my watch a lot for work but it is barely lasting 24 hours
I don't think you can buy the LTE model. I was at samsung's site and each time I pressed the buy button my only option was the bluetooth model
This is true, the same thing happened to me.
You can preorder it at Bestbuy and B&H Photo
Do not buy it from Best Buy. I checked with them and they have no idea when it will be released (and evidently, neither does Samsung themselves). However, if you order it from Best Buy, they will charge you immediately unlike other sites where you are charged when it ships. Also, there are postings saying that the LTE version may never get released because they are having issues with LTE on this watch. I am very disappointed with Samsung since I was very excited to order one but it is not available anywhere. I had never owned an Apple product myself but my kids have iPads and my wife has an iPhone / Apple Watch 4. I might have to jump ship to Apple as much as I hate to. But their stuff just works and I can clearly see that now.
So, can you play the music out loud with the built-in speaker?
Great video!
Mike was this the aluminum watch? I ordered the silver LTE 40 mm. Looking forward to to getting it. Just curious as to what band I'm getting with the silver one I ordered. Thanks

I would listen to them later during the day and take action.
