It all started when…
In December 2015 we packed up and hit the road for what we thought would be a 12 month Lap of Oz. Fast forward 7 years and we decided to create a video series of our travels to show you all what it’s like to live life on the road!!
That Mud Crab and rice dish is fit for a King and his Ransom. Best I've ever seen and well and truly a 5 star meal better than any Restaurant mate. Well Done Legend.
I worked in Arnhem Land about the time you were born....10 years installing and looking after phones in all of the communities ....great job.
Worked for Telstra in Nhullunbuy, Groote Eylandt, Elcho Island (actually installed the first telephones on the island when all they had was HF radio), Ramingining and all of the communities in Arnhem Land.
Then switched to Jabiru and worked all of the other side of Arnhem Land - Maningrida, Oenpelli, Wurruwi, Minjilang, etc.
Loved the lifestyle of both work and leisure.......Gods country.
To drive from Katherine to Gove was mostly not possible for approx. 9 months of the year, so most things where either barged in (VB Perkins) or flown in (by Ansett)....The Bullman track (I think it was called) was nearly all bulldust and even 4WD's without anything behind them struggled to get through.
The town dentist (at the time) and myself were the two that built the dirt go-kart track near the speedway.....well we designed it all, and the mining company provided all of the heavy equipment and operators to build it - the Scraper driver drove like he was in a go-kart, absolute gem of an operator.
This is so good! The old days in gove would have been so much fun

I grew up in this area. It is definitely beautiful scenery and this footage brings back great memories of the lifestyle of Nhulunbuy Gove NT Certainly well filmed and created

Funny, all these years I though that part of the top end was closed off as traditional land, and that the furthest east you could go was places like Kakadu (where I've been) and Jabaru. Thanks for the heads up and fascinating video.

Thanks for the trip. I lived in Gove for 25 years 1980-2005 worked at the Walkabout for 4 and 21 years at the plant, a few things have changed in Gove tourist wise looking at your vid. Iv'e got to get back there as i loved it. i was in the game fishing club so got to see a lot of the area by sea, thanks again

Every trip into Arnhem Land I used to go past a place called Emu Springs (hot water spring near Ramingining, not available to most unless you have a permit to work in Arnhem Land) always got out for a dip.......until I flew over it in a chopper once (how I went to work in the Wet Season, as the passenger only)...1km upstream from the hot spring was Arafura Swap and I saw so many crocodiles sliding into the swap when we hovered....never went for my dip ever again.
Apparently crocs wont go into the hot spring so I was safe.....but I was not going to chance it anymore.

@@TripInAVan really enjoying your video....thanks for bringing back the memories mate. Unfortunately I don't think Nhulunbuy is much longer, once the mine actually shuts down the infrastructure (shops, etc) will be hard to maintain on tourists $$$ alone.

We are travelling to Nhulunbuy early June. My question is, google Maps quote very long travel times a total of 23 hrs 730 kms
is this an over kill.
From your Video we are leaving Bitter springs to Mainoru then to Flat rock onto Nhulunbuy

Seen a few snakes but never close up in camp. And some big huntsman spiders but thats it.

So it might be cheaper for you in the short run to eat things like mud crab that you come across. You teach millions of people to do it and there won’t be anything even to see in the wild How about you eat regular food and teach people to conserve the nature so that it’s everyone can go out there and see these things.
