  • How Good is 7 Foot 9 And World's Tallest College Basketball Player Olivier Rioux Really?
Olivier Rioux is a high school basketball player that is committed to The University of Florida. He just graduated from IMG Academy and has been playing international basketball with Team Canada. But is Olivier actually good or is he just an extremely tall person that plays basketball? #nba #basketball #nbanews #fiba #teamcanada #olivierrioux #floridagators

I still don't think Edey has shown enough athleticism to be considered a solid NBA prospect though (maybe a short-term efficient rotational player like Boban) and Rioux is nowhere near as athletic, skilled or polished as Edey. He has A LOT of work to do to show even major college potential, much less anything close to NBA potential.

It's not that wemby, chet, and porzingis are "just short enough" to still be mobile, it's that they are exceptionally mobile for their heights, which is why they're so good

IMG Academy is a high school for future pro sports players. Rioux is playing back up big because that is his most likely pro out come. Same for Zack Edey at IMG, but now he's a starter. Rioux is being drilled in how to shoot the outside jumper in practice. Not in games yet. Hopefully at Florida he'll be shooting from 15 feet.

7’9 and looks to have some Good mobility For his height and he’s not too big. He can definitely play in the NBA. Once he gain more strength this kid will be scary. But if I’m being honest I’m not sure is Strength is as necessary in today s NBA With everyone being Face up and Rim runner styles C. His biggest concerns for me will be his perimeter defense. But as a coach I will go into it knowing to give him more help with the fence on the perimeter and keep him down low. And I would also like to see better lateral move them out of him. Because I’m like in high school you just can’t sit in the paint in the NBA anymore.

Too slow for NBA, once they’ll figure how to take him out of the paint, a quick PG will score, on transition if he can’t be there to shoot a 3 pointer with quick defensive opponents, it’s game over. Good for FIBA and Euroleague though, as it would allow him to stay under the rim endlessly, and have time to put screens or pick and rolls. Jokic is slow for sure, but he compensates a lot with his passing abilities, his 3 point shooting, and his physicality. And even being labelled as a slow guy, he’s still here on transitions.
The comparison with Kristaps, Wemby or Chet is not the right one, even with Georg Mursan who was a tough and physical guy, a real monster, a baobab, Roux is at best a birch tree… he won’t be able to gain muscle as Wemby does now without having serious health problems. Not enough flexibility like Chet or Wemby have.
