    I've always had a desk for work at home, so it was a natural to do Art at it as well. We moved into our forever home 19 years ago and all kids have flown the coop. I now have two (2) guest rooms and a Master Bedroom. The 4th bedroom is "ALL MINE" (makes me giddy) and is my Art Room. I cannot believe how lucky I am. I started out with rubber stamping postcards and such in 1991 at the dining room table. There you go......two extremes. My Art Room is organized (meaning I know where everything is) but looks like a mess. I usually clean up my desk before I start a new project. You amaze me that you are so organized in a small space. I am so impressed. Love your Vlogs!!!!!!

    I started out at the kitchen table, then I had a table in my living room, now I am lucky enough to have a whole room for my art. I agree you don't need a lot of space to create a lot of great art.

    Love the fun tour! Love the ring light toilet lid reference. I know working in a tiny space is sometimes difficult. My space is a workspace in a large studio. My studio is broken into workspaces devoted to various forms of arts and crafts. I like that you did provide some very needed suggestions of storage items that I could probably use. I will be on the look out now for them! Thanks, Iris. I always enjoy the glimpses into your art spaces and ideas.

    I am an example of too much space. I have so many supplies for art journaling, scrapbooking, mixed media, fabrics and ribbons, etc that I become overwhelmed and don't do the art as often as I would like to. I am a creative shopaholic at heart. But I am trying to overcome that!!!

    • @iris-impressions-art
      @iris-impressions-art  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah I can imagine that is super overwhelming!! I tend to just put the things I don't use away, as you saw! I'd love more space so I can have a few dedicated areas. Desk for art journaling, easel, desk for computer, maybe another separate desk for filming, a sewing desk... I need a HUGE studio really haha. Hmm I wonder how my family would feel about getting rid of the living room 😂😂😂

      @@iris-impressions-art I knew a lady who turned her living room into her Creative Memories office/studio. Maybe you could set up your zones in the living room as long as you keep a TV zone?

    • @jakkigarlans2680
      @jakkigarlans2680 Před 3 lety

      Carolyn, I have the same problem! I tend to horde things I think will be useful and buy supplies I think will make me a great artist. We moved about a year ago, and all this has been consolidated into one room. What a shock it was to see it in one place. It's horrifying really and it overwhelms me. I fight against the feelings that tell me that I thought the bits and pieces were useful so I must keep them. It is excruciatingly slow making inroads. My husband won't come into the room (there is a plus to all this!) and even I sometimes physically and psychologically sag on entering the room! Warning to all!!! Do Not Go on Alibaba and Look at Washi Tape! Even though it is cost effective to buy it there, you will need to buy lots of storage for your intemperate purchases, and the storage-buying will never end because there is NO successful way to store the huge number of rolls you have accumulated however many options you try. Trust me, I know this from personal experience. Iris, you are lucky, small English houses help one make necessary choices, large American houses just feed the beast!!

    • @carolynmarnon
      @carolynmarnon Před 3 lety

      @@jakkigarlans2680 large American houses just feed the beast!! This is so true! I also love buying washi tape. I could open my own craft store in my home. As I try to tame the beast, I am I trying to put like things together so in the end, I can see that I have too many of something and let things go because they don't fit into the space I am allotting for them. I could be featured on a special edition of Hoarders-The Craft Supply Addict! My house is functional, but the edges are filled with supplies pushed against the walls. I am seriously on a journey to a better creative station in my life.

      I didn't make that association before, but now I'm most DEFINITELY gonna think of them as toilet seat lights 😅 Love how you've made the space work for you and your needs. I'm situated in the old boiler room so it is "my own space" but with a noisy heat pump and it's a walk through to get to the laundry room. I constantly switch between "I want everything tucked away in drawers and closed storage systems so it looks tidy" and "where are all my things?! Oh, guess I have to buy new stuff" because out of sight is out of mind.
