  • Learn how to spice up your tumbao "Patato" style in our latest conga video lesson. Instructor Edgardo Cambon opens up to 2 and 3 drums.
    Latin Percussion LP City Wood Congas 10" & 11" Set: amzn.to/1Uz3kQK
    Carlos Valdés (November 4, 1926 - December 4, 2007), better known as Patato, was a Cuban-born American conga player. In 1954 he emigrated from La Habana to New York City where he continued his prolific career as a sideman for several jazz and Latin music ensembles, and occasionally as a bandleader. He invented and patented the tunable conga drum which revolutionized the use of the instrument in the US. Tito Puente once called him "the greatest conguero alive today".

    Me gusta mucho la manera que enseñas los diferentes ritmos y patrones. Lo haces de manera bastante sencilla. Soy vieja escuela, más libre y creativa. Rey Barreto, Patato, Mañegue, Papo Pepín, Jerry González, Eladio Pérez y otros de esa época. Me gustan los patrones más libres que la rigidez actual por ser más comercial. Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos. Adelante.

    Could you do a lesson on what each type of drum is (I.e. conga, rumba, bongo, etc) what is a fair price for each type of drum, is the price with the drum heads, how much are heads, how are they installed, how are they tuned ? And any other relative information you deem important. I would like to start learning each of these drums/rhythms, etc. thank you, it is nice to have found someone who truly knows how to teach these great talents.

    • @Eddysuconga
      @Eddysuconga Před 7 lety

      David Carex , si en ingles se le llama Middle C, en realidad en este vídeo, afine de oído, no estoy seguro si la afinación es exacta, pero recuerda que tu afinación es siempre "propia" y no hay reglas fijas. Además la afinación depende del estilo que se está tocando. Suerte !

    • @Eddysuconga
      @Eddysuconga Před 7 lety

      Wedeyamusic, I did tune this drums by ear right before the lesson. (-:).... However, middle "C" note for the high conga, a 3rd and 5th below for the other two drums is a rather common interval, but I am not sure if thats what this drums were tuned to on that day, because I did not use a piano or a pitch fork or tuning device. I usually tune by ear to my liking. Thanks for watching!

It is just her nature, but I work with her, and stuck to her, and she trained me too! (LOL) .

    • @Eddysuconga
      @Eddysuconga Před 7 lety

      Hi Ras, thanks for your comment. This video and ALL my videos posted are for beginner or (some) for intermediate players. What I teach on this videos is for students to have some basic skills on this type of grove to expand. All I play and teach is taught my way, and played my way. There are plenty of Patato's videos out there for you to further investigate. Good luck on your drumming progress.
