    Wow, with many decades riding horses, I couldn't agree more about the winner! I'm almost to tears. I can't believe Western Pleasure is finally getting to be where it needs to be. I am so happy with that winning horse. Thank you for explaining the video, judge, and thanks to aqha for getting the Integrity back in our horses again.

    Im getting sick of reading these hate comments towards the western pleasure community from not very well educated people.Ive ridden and worked with these types of horses growing up, and I can tell you that these horses love there jobs, they are some of the best, most friendly horses Ive met. Until you have worked with these horses, ridden them, and actually know what your talking about, stop your dang assumptions. And dont come up to me saying you know what your talking about, if you don't like WP, then don't watch these videos. The owners of these horses love there horses with all their hearts, and there's bad training methods in all riding disciplines, dressage, showjumping, saddleseat, reining, and I could go on and on, stop just directing all the hate towards western pleasure, these horses aren't your average thoroughbred, their breed naturally has a low head set, which indicates relaxation. Ive seen AQHA foals jog and lope like this, when they haven't had any training whats so ever. When you say horses look like there limping, look at a saddlebreds high action when in motion, thats bred into them as much as the slow, rocking movment in the AQHA horses. Every horse and discipline is different, as is everyone's opinion, so if you dont like these horses, you can leave :)

      What you don't like is that some people here are telling you the emperor is buck naked - because the emperor IS buck naked. And you WPers are too brainwashed to see how stupid your horses look hopping around the arena. .

    I would still really like to see more ground covering movement in Western Pleasure at the lope and jog. The Western Pleasure jog as it stands looks like the front end and hind end are working in opposition of each other. It just isn't the correct movement in my amateur judge opinion. There is nothing "forward" about the movement of those horses at the lope. They looked heavy on their front end and constantly lifting their head carriage in order to get their front end up under them to perform the movement.
    I agree with the winner of the class. Out of all of the horses it showed the most correctness in movement. Personally, this is why I could never judge in the upper levels of showing. My judgements are not popular. LOL

  • @MyCrystalPlaid
    @MyCrystalPlaid Před rokem +2

    From a learning point of view, it would have been very helpful for the judge to have touched on the other horses in the class and why he didn't find them as appealing as the ones that won the class. We didn't even get to see the other contenders so that we could form our own opinions.

That is how they want a Western pleasure lope to look like." my mother was absolutely shocked, as am i! my horse still has a slow, rhythmic Western pleasure lope, but she never looks like she's gimping around the arena! so sad to see horses forced to move so slow and restricted. ah, just my opinion though...

      @ettalauchland4718 Před 6 lety +2

      4H horses can RARELY beat AQHA bred and trained horses. Some do both, but most AQHA horses I know (who dont do AQHA), do it because they could never compete with the well trained horses we have. Not being rude, its just a fact that AQHA has nicer horses!

    • @KelticLegend
      @KelticLegend Před 6 lety +3

      Etta Lauchland Everyone weighs the respectability and beauty of horses differently; AQHA horses aren’t necessarily the best in my book. They are often interbred and maintain health problems throughout their lifetimes. I wouldn’t put my gelding through any of that rigorous process just to get a sash and blue ribbon, because I don’t find it humane to him - and he IS an AQHA qualified horse.

    I had competed in this discipline 10 years ago and even now I don't regret ever getting out of it. There's certainly been some improvement where the horses are no longer cantering on an angle to make them appear more "collected" and their noses are allowed to stick out in a more natural position instead of sucked in at a vertical position. But, it's still so boring to watch and there is nothing more unpleasant then watching a horse bob his head while he lopes around the arena in such awkward pace.

    • @leafygreen9036
      @leafygreen9036 Před 6 lety +1

      Elizabeth Sky burn the three horses he said he liked are actually moving nice for western pleasure. Most of these horses move like this naturally as it is bred into them. Kind of like how thoroughbreds are bred for racing you know? Quarter horses, especially pleasure horses like this are bred much heavier than racers because they want nice slow movements that are pleasurable to ride (basically really easy to sit, almost anyone could ride and not struggle to stay on). Believe me this is actually pretty decent compared to a lot of the other pleasure horses I’ve seen. They aren’t troping (aka loping in the front and trotting in the back) and they do carry themselves quite well. Walking and jogging that slow isn’t super hard to obtain for stock horses, but true western pleasure horses can move like this with little to no training. The loping in my opinion could be a bit more natural looking (maybe move out just a touch), but is fairly nice. Most judges should know how a good western pleasure horse should move, but sadly some like the “peanut pushers” who have their noses dug into the ground and truly do move like a crippled horse

Qualified for state 4-H horse shows several times and won in 1st in western and English. IMO - these horses look horrible! Yes, I get the fact a "rocking" horse is fun and an easy ride but this is not natural despite the comments here. Listen to the judge and count that number of times he uses the word "profile." What does profile have to do with a pleasure horse? Really? Show me a horse walking out and covering ground. This is not a "ground covering" walk. Show me a true jog and it better be different than that slow little lope. What has happened to the great western pleasure horse?
