  • We travel full time - no home base or storage unit. After two years, we show how full time international travel costs less than you think. In this video we look back on our actual spending by category, and compare to our budget for the year. Then we discuss what changes we might make and how we're planning to spend our money in the coming year as full time retired traveling nomas. What does it COST TO TRAVEL FULL TIME?
    We'll talk about our goals, our priorities, and strategies to make sure we stay on track. We'll also share some tips for budgeting that have worked for us in the past. We break out the categories, and we let you know if we were over or under budget. Our travels through Europe, Asia, and Southeast Asia are an inspiration to anyone who wants to travel affordably. We are an early retired couple who sold everything to travel the world full time.

    Yay, the much-awaited budget video is here! I was so happy to see you spend to enjoy your life rather than the typical “how low can we go” stories. As a single traveler, I budget $2500/mo. between a handful of countries moving every 60-90 days between Asia & Europe. Although I’m not housesitting, taking cruises or staying with family, I’m confident I can manage and hope to find housing options besides Airbnb too! Happy Nomad Anniversary - here's to Year 3 and beyond. 👏

      Thanks so much. Yes, you're right, we are not "low as you go" travelers, although sometimes we do find that we can get a bit too frugal. We need to splurge a bit more. This year will be interesting. We don't have any "cheap" countries in the itinerary, so I think we've got a bit of a challenge ahead of us. It's June 4, and we're already way over budget for the month due to some cruise purchases. We'll see how this goes. I think $2500 for one is a reasonable number.

      Hi Linda, I am interested in your journey. I am hoping to travel on less as well. I have seen many budget videos and the couples spend far more than I would be able to. I gotta make my savings stretch a bit. I hope to travel on 2k a month if possible.

    Counting beds; love it!
    I'm always amazed at how little people can spend; we've never come close ; not realistic for us. We add in our fixed expenses as our monthly budget: health insurance, cellular, streaming services, etc. and that alone is almost $1,000 per month-yikes!
    House sitting is not an option since we have no experience with pets of any kind.
    Slow travel seems the way to go for us and I find it rewarding to settle in and become part of the community for awhile. Housing and groceries continue to be our biggest expenses, no big surprise, but we don't skimp in these areas. Comfort and good nutrition is paramount!
    Thank you for producing these informative videos; I will continue to follow your journeys and make a plan to meet up with you again. Happy trails, my friends!

I'm a fan of Mexico, but not necessarily by car. On the other hand, traveling to all the 50 hikes locations would be fantastic with your dog. I think all fo the trails allow dogs except for the South Dakota hike (due to NPS rules.) In the book, there's a map of how to drive the route if you chose not to fly. Yes, there is plenty of CC that have high rewards (points of cash back) for hotels, car rentals, and airfares regardless of where the flight is from/to, but for the rest of the expenses it doesn't work like in the US. No gas or grocery or Pharmacy or many of the other multipliers. Which card have you found that maximises those things??

    2 questions. 1) How did you feel you did with healthy eating in Asia. Eating out is cheap. But were you able to eat healthy? 2) What's your pricing approach to cruises? Are you booking far ahead? My feeling is that they are cheapest in the 90 day window, but in order to keep other expenses down we tend to plan further out.

    • @EatWalkLearn
      @EatWalkLearn  Před rokem +1

      Eating out is always a challenge, especially when we look for vegan food. We do the best we can to pick things that aren't fried and deep in oil. Malaysia was RUFF, but Thailand was easy. Of course, going to the markets always produces healthy and fresh food. We ate lots of fresh spring rolls and pad thais. Our snacks were often fresh fruit and/or smoothies. As for pricing cruises, we're definitely playing with this. It seems that repositioning cruises don't sell out, thus deals seem to happen around the 90 day window. I used Google Bard to do an analysis of cruise pricing on a cruise we just booked LA-Sydney and it showed that prices dipped from Jan-Mar historically and rose in June. I waited until May 31 to book (hoping for a Memorial Day kicker), and it paid off. June 1, the prices went up. The 90-day window is in July, so I'll loop back and see if i made the right decision. We also booked our Japan repositioning about 5 months out and got a good price, but I heard that it got better at about 45 days. Thus, I don't have the algorithm figured out yet :-) and I'm hoping AI might help with this. I can't access ChatGPT cuz I don't have a non voip number to verify access, but it'd be interesting to compare ChatCPT, Bard and Bing in their analysis of historic prices on particular cruises.
