Americans as far south as Alabama and Northern California could be treated to a show of the northern lights this weekend from a powerful geomagnetic storm heading toward Earth, officials said.
Why!? Simple. The Earth’s Magnetic Field is very weak as it is about to go to zero, before it flips, as it has DONE before many times. But! What does happen and can happen during that time the Earth is not protected from Asteroids and solar energy? Ahhhhh!
Umm… this is because of the sun, it has nothing to do with the Earth’s magnetic field. If the sun wasn’t putting out flares, you wouldn’t see aurora regardless of what the magnetic fields is doing.
I am a a very lucky UK citizen and got beautiful photos of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) it’s been my dream ever since being a little girl!
I saw this last night through my phone camera and I could see a little bit irl. Literally one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen
It’s called a carrington event. It was visible all the way south in Houston and San Antonio Texas
I'm seeing it right now in New Zealand. It's so amazing! I've never seen an aurorae
The fact that the photo was buffering in the background and my internet being so slow right now just goes to show how strong that solar storm is.
Absolutely 100% the reason. Surprised they got someone who knew Astronomy.
I like your funny words, magic man
In NY nothing happened :/ I saw nothing. It’s currently night and I didn’t see it :(
Roof was blown off by a solar flare
Not seeing a dang thing in Utah. 😞

Oh… an the magnetic field doesn’t do a thing to deflect asteroids…
Literally no one cares.
