As a graphic novelist, I've always been frustrated with the limitations of the static comic book page. I wanted to see my drawings in motion and have the luxury to set them to sound and particularly music. Armed with experience from the many flip books I made as a kid, I managed to make my very first animated film, Andong Agimat: Kanya ang Kalye ("The Streets are His").. It's only 4 minutes long but it took around two weeks to make. I really had fun working on this and I hope you'll enjoy watching it. :)
*Andong Agimat is a character from my graphic novel Ang Mundo ni Andong Agimat (arnold-arre.com.... He is a Pinoy superhero I created who wears a talisman that makes him invulnerable.
I really love this. The problem with some animated films in the Philippines is that the studio tries to go for a Disney aesthetic but it ends up looking cheap and lifeless. They try to make the characters move as fluid as possible but with a limited budget, it just doesn't work. This one doesn't have the most fluid movement but it works and makes for a cool short film. The PH has great potential.

Go look up mike inel and manyakis, its the same guy just two different personalities. he is a filipino but has well made animations.

I agree. Especially to mike inel (filipino animator) is the great example to influence filipinos to create their own anime industry.

I actually encourage them to find/adapt their own medium of animation not like western cartoons or japanese anime because that would be hella interesting to see.
sana makagawa tayo ng slice of life or drama or school life na anime, in the context of philippine settings. Para mas relatable, tulad ng barkada culture, street gangs, squatters, etc.

Geez Arnold this blew me away, the animation, music, sfx are all top notch. Mahihiya yung mga gawa ng pro kuno dito. Sa photoshop lang yan and wala pang dialogue ha! XD I'd really prefer short films like these. Imagine if you did a couple more & release them as an anthology...

The ending is hilarious yet so .... Ando. I think mas nagalit pa sya na sinira yung favorite nyang Victor Wood(& Lumber) t-shirt!

I don't mind seeing this kind of animation on Philippine TV -- ang mga anime gaya nina Goko, Eugene, Recca at Sakuragi, sumikat hindi dahil nakaka-wow ang animation kundi dahil may mga buhay silang kinukwento; pamilya at mga kaibigang pinangangalagaan. Hindi lang sila anime na nakakabilib, kundi may istorya silang nakaka-inspire.

@13elsyd13 No, the symbol in use in the video has nothing to do with the illuminati. The "all-seeing eye" dates back to the Spanish occupation here in the Philippines. The Filipinos at that time adapted the symbol into the "agimat" (talisman) believing that it can ward off evil spells or make the wearer superhuman.

@emersonsy21 I'm using Vegas Pro 10. As for how I made it, it works pretty much like when you're editing video footage or are doing multiple layers with text graphics except that this time, you're working with jpegs of illustrations. I'd love to do a tutorial when my load lightens up. (Right now there are just too many things that need to be done!) Thanks for the note. :)

@JanuariusLaygo Thanks! :) The truth is, the original title was "Andong Agimat Meets the iPod" but after discussing it with my wife, we decided that a title closer to the theme of the graphic novel would be more appropriate (and besides the original title sounded too much like an ad for Apple). :D
