Blind Madelon walked off with the show that afternoon. At 84, after more than 5 decades before the public, with her voice still so steady, rich and expressive. I'm glad I was there.
In my opinion, Elias was underappreciated during her long career at the Met.She still has a beautiful voice here. Her recording of highlights from Werther with Valetti is a standout! She was a wonderfully involved Charlotte. Listen to her Letter Scene. Very moving and perfectly sung!
@@Perrosiutico Yes, I have that one too. Just found a recording of the Verdi Requiem with Elias, Price, Bergonzi and Siepi from the Met broadcast of March of '64 in honor of JFK. Will listen to that ASAP!
Amazing performance and example of vocal longevity by Rosalind Elias. She recorded the Verdi Requiem with my teacher, Giorgio Tozzi, fifty three years ago!
That amazing voice never failed her. Rich and vibrant Even in her 80’s.
RIP Madame Elias. A true artist, it was a great pleasure to hear you create this character.
A very great artist whose brilliance shown for over fifty years. May she rest in eternal peace. She was also a doll!
OMG She's 84 years old here! What a voice!

You're so right about that highlights disc of "Werther." One of the prizes of my collection! Also "Bluebeard's Castle" on Columbia with Jerome Hines.

The divine Rosalind. One of a kind. The loveliest person, and a great artist - as one can see here. We will miss her.
