    I'm pretty convinced that audiophiles hate CD specifically for its low entry cost. It's a caste society and CD made it really hard to look down on people.

      Audiophiles loved CDs when the first CD players came out. Back then a CD player would cost more than some people made in a week. Only the rich people could afford them. The cost made them "Audiophile" quality. Now the audiophiles love vinyl because some turntables cost as much as a months salary and the records cost up to $30 to $40 each. I remember audiophiles turned their noses up at records in the 80s. Oh CDs have no hissing, popping, or scratching. Now they are hated because the peasants can afford them.

      It's not really 'audiophiles', per se. It's just the rich bragging about being rich. Being an 'audiophile' is just ONE way by which they do this. Very few of them have the 'golden ear' they claim they do. The principle applies to almost everything they have - cars, wristwatches, etc.

      I’m not an audiophile but I do prefer the sound of vinyl when compared to CD sound. Saying that, I have no doubts that the CD music format is unbeatable in terms of sound quality, convenience of use and low cost of the hardware needed to read the information in a CD.

    • @nvo7024
      @nvo7024 Před 4 lety

      Not really. A sound source is just a small fraction of an audiophile setup. A dedicated, well designed listening hall, especially in a big city environment, is a whole different story.

      @@jerryspann8713 one reason why records>cd. is that you can include skips on purpose, for example one of the last songs of Electric Wizard Dopethrone on LP. It skips over the laugh track until you take the needle off, cd version is whack, doesn't offer that COOL feature. i was literally mind blown.

    I agree that CD players can be a good entry into sound for a budget price, but there is something satisfying about using a decent, well built and heavy CD player- the way the drawer slides quietly open. My Sacd player is a case in point. But i also love tape and records as collecting them is great. Tend to find that jazz cd' are often more expensive, along with early 1980' s ones Sacd's and XR cd. Keep the the interesting content.

    Nice video. I have 6,100+ CDs and my experience re what you get for your money is similar to yours. But there's another reason to stay away from spending too much: over the course of the ownership of your music system, you will very likely have to replace the CD player multiple times. I bought a nice set of Kenwood components (inc a CD player) and Bose 601 speakers in 1985 and used them until 2012. During that time, I must have had at least 4 or 5 CD players. So, they're not going to last. In 2012 I bought a new system with a Denon CD player that was over $1,000 and within a couple of years its little electronic brain started getting scrambled. I still use it, but when it starts acting up, I plug in my Sony Walkman. Moral of the story: don't spend a lot of money on a CD player.

I haven't hooked it to my DAC yet, but it sounds pretty great on its own, especially with "G-Protection" turned off. I need to find a DAC that's about the same size, and same color so I can stack it on top and it'll look like my own little transport/DAC combo.

    I didn't even like cds till a couple years ago- we take what we can get -but cds are great, compact, easy to take care of, and the sound has gotten pretty warm, for digital . I was Mr. Vinyl until the early 2000's . And now with all this retro vinyl krap and various pressings-I don't miss vinyl a bit . I used to prefer cassette tape, mainly for editing, and tape got so good right before cds came in, but vinyl is like buying a Model T-its for a hobbyist . When it became possible to burn cds,that's it . Cds are a fine medium .

    Yeah, I’ve gone through CD players in different styles. I’ve seen it in a boombox, I’ve seen it in the form of a 3-disc sack via the loading tray, and I’ve also seen it as a portable unit for on the go. Who will know if a $64 or $65 Arafuna from Amazon will work in my dad‘s new car via a Bluetooth transmitter? Well, I have to wait and see. It is a portable unit for playing on the go, has ASP for uninterrupted listening experience, and has bluetooth in it. But hold on, there is a feature, I’m sure, that other brands like Monodeal and Hott don’t have. Hint: it acts as if it were a turntable and is used as DJ tool. It’s not the scratch, but can you guess what that is? Please, tell me in the reply. If you don’t know what that is, then, perhaps, I’ll tell you what that is. Thank you.

    I like Audiiphile equipment. Nothing wrong with items at the lower costs if you don't have the funds. It is ridiculous comparing a CD player attached to a small speaker to a full blown system. I have a full blown CD Recorder by Philips from 1999 and it sounds thin compared to using a £200.00 to £300.00 dedicated CD Player which I also have. There is also no mention of using a DAC with regular size all in one CD Player either as opposed to the Transport and Dac mentioned. There are also too many variables to a high end system to consider before generalising on cheap and high end comparisons.

    If you judge sound by using a soda can sized speaker, then you kinda disqualify yourself already. If you listen to CDs, using a "proper" stereo system (amplifier, decently sized, quality speakers) then you do hear a difference between the bottom of the barrel cd-players and good ones and between good ones and those where you would have paid premium dollars when they were new. Like You said, DACs make a big difference, but its also the quality of the components, the filters applied to the sound (every at least decent cd-player has some sound shaping) and the opamps. How much of the data on a CD really gets to your ears and how is it "colored" by the components used; all that makes or breaks the sound. But in the age of digital music, i have a feeling the perception of whats acceptable and ok sounding lowered. I often hear people say "this sounds really good!" and i think "no, this sounds like total crap. You just dont realize it cause you have nothing really good to compare it to >_>" But yeah, cd-players rarely totally crap out :D
