Circa late 1930s, Boat Quay, Singapore. A young boy receives an old violin as a gift out of kindness from a foreign trader. From then on, it becomes a treasured possession as he teaches himself to play the instrument over several years, until it was lost during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore. After the war, the violin was found by a man working for the British Military Administration and given to his young daughter. The girl learns to play it and becomes a renowned violinist over the decades. She eventually passes the instrument on to her grandson, an accomplished violinist himself, who restores it and performs in a concert by the Singapore River, where the violin started its unexpected journey nearly 80 years ago.Throughout the film, the violin graces different stages of Singapore - both figuratively and literally - as we see a young nation’s landscape evolve from a bustling 1930s to the dark days of the Japanese Occupation, followed by the sweeping political changes that lead to its independence and finally, present day.

this is the video made me from pianist to violinist
I was kinda hoping the boy from the beginning was going to end up finding it again like in some odd way, whether it was him being the one in the British Military Administration who finds it later, or him much older and seeing it at one of the woman's concerts. But this was still very beautiful none the less :)
He did find it.
Fantastic

@@justsomeguard9150 No, he didn't. The boy was not seen again after he moved away during the war.
I like to think that the boy met the girl with the violin off screen, they became really good friends, than fell in love than have a baby boy/ girl, than they met thier love ones, and have a baby boy (the man near the end playing that violin at present singapore) because he is not seen again after he moved from the war, this is just my wild thinking, please don't hate ❤️
This short film brought tears into my eyes.. i am truly proud of what Singapore has become. Majulah Singapura!
I’m proud of the animation but the playing *cough* decent not bad for a amateur
@@batsaranganerdene6911 it's funny that you're replying to five years comment but hey... Do whatever you want is your life
Me too brings back memories
Aku udah punya Violin
Every child is born with a natural true talent. Most people don't find it, at least not soon enough. This is why not a lot of people are famous. Remember, God gave you a talent. Now it's up to you to find it. Go! And try new things, you never know, something you try might be something you'll be famous for...
Good advice but I want to add something to that. While people may have natural talent there are other people who aren't good at a certain thing but they want to get better at it. That's also good, you can't rely on natural talent alone, you need two halves to make a whole. Your statement was beautiful, I just wanted to add this little something to it. And I don't know if you're going to reply back to this comment but was my statement okay?
beautifully said ^.^
+Hiphop75Gaming umm... I think u mean to say that even though one has natural talent, they need to nurture it with good training, practicing and professional guidance.. even a beautiful veil can't grow without support :)
I don't want to be famous I just want to do what I love and that is playing the piano. Since I was 5 I wanted to play.

:)
Props to those who did the background art, they were truly beautiful
The way he holds the bow is killing me
Hi Iam Indonesia's People.Iam appreciate about this history about war in Singapore and about the music
This video remind me to my story. Thank you so much... in 2000, someone give me his violin..He was gone, but I still remember the first time we met and he give this violin to me..
wow i cant describe the feeling right after watching this. the story & especially the music did touched my soul. Tears falling right now
I love to see all the Q&A people are asking. It means others outside of Singapore
are learning of this wonderful one of a kind places. Singapore is truly like no other
place with a rich diverse culture. The film is a muse in so many ways
+2knowmyself Agreed! But bear in mind that there are many sides to history. People from different countries are taught different narratives about the same story...
yes I know the region has a LONG history and Singapore has a narrow version of it and the human rights that are very debatable at the least. Trust me my own country has a forgetful memory of its own past too. thank you for taking the time to reply.
This also shows how far Singapore has came, MAJULAH SINGAPURA!! ❤🇸🇬
That man - Lee Kuan Yew! He transformed a sleepy fishing village into a global center for business and excellence.
this will make you cry a river.
the music was beautiful what true art is this? so beautiful i could cry
Such beauty ,the melody, all are dainty ,how come there are dislikes?
I need twoset to react to this.... 🥰
i was hoping to see a Twosetter in the comments... lmao. I don't play violin but we need to appreciate the foreigner's THICC vibrato
Oh wow twosetters are everywhere
This is one of the most incredible pieces of art that I have ever seen.
An awesome video which touches the heart of Singaporean
I was kinda hoping to see the kid who had the violin originally find it and become famous or something idk, but it was really good non the less!
Reminds me of The Red Violin (1998) by Francois Girard. Depicting a violin that travels through time.
The bg are so detailed. Love it.
I just saw this on TV. Its beautiful :3
When I saw this on TV. I wanna see if i can find it here. The title i typed in was correct xD
One of my favorite so far... Bravo!!
did this bro draw for our textbooks too?? I swear it's the same art style I've seen in our Chinese textbooks for the 10 years lmao
OMG I thought it was just me... I've seen this art style in our Chinese books
Wait a second, what are the name of the Chinese textbooks you are talking about?
The beauty of music, an art that can capture the soul. However, I wish the boy in the beginning showed up at the end, I wanted to know what happened to him, & I wish he had somehow gotten that violin back :(
I was kinda wondering what happened to the boy who first owned the violin. I hope they showed his story.
ikr ! poor kid had to leave his violin
16 minutes of my life I was glad to give. Amazing story!
the violin man and all people in Singapore is the best
oh, wow. this was wonderful. absolutely amazing, I loved it :)
I loved this. However, I missed the connection between the young woman, and the boy at the end, until I read the description. It wasn't clear that he was her grandson, and that it was the same violin - which left me confused.
Violin so thankful that the boy took good care of him. I was seeing it as a full length cgi movie where the main character was the violin. Love the melody though (when it was first played)... anybody knows the title of it?
What was the song that he played in the beginning? I really want to play it.
All the music in here is composed by August Lum, maybe look for their channel?
very inspirational and beautiful. well done
Tears to my eyes....
magnifique .... un chef d'oeuvre ... merci .
So touching. So profound.
So cute
The goosebumps man
Good animation and story... love it ^ ^
I was at the beginning when the boy was about to open the case when I skipped a little ahead and there was an explosion ,lol
Ahh, this is so nice!! I used to watch Japanese anime but have given it up now. Im really glad to see such nice animations used to tell this story. Would you be doing more animations to tell stories about Singapore?
Very Heart touching !!
Thank you
So touching :'( ...
Só chorei TT-TT obrigada!
It was a good day.
This actually let me think of how my grandma and grandpa came here during the war
Does anybody know the song that's played throughout the video, I really like it and want to get it

i hope more and more animation like this created.

Ah yes twosetter
What’s the name of the sound track ?
Hi, I am the composer of the sound track; I hadn't given titles to the music. The film actually comprises of four segments (or reels), so I referred to them as "Reel 1, 2, 3, 4".
Good night
beautiful concept, but the historical storytelling wasa little too Sino-centric
whats this song!!!
Ya la encontraste ?
Dat rubato doe....
Can I get a job in your studio ?
I am like the video indonesian merdeka
that violin is sacrivarius look closely at the first minute
Sacrilegious you mean?
Good animation but that vibrato makes me want to die
I am sorry, can anyone please explain to or tell me the message of this video? I think this is a beautifully made video, but I don't quite get the message behind it.
I think the part that puzzles me is really the relationship between the violin and Singapore...
Henry Tran I suppose the use of the violin in the film is a storytelling technique
Henry Tran to narrate Singapore's history
Henry Tran the violin is just the catalyst for the main issue which is remembering what our country has gone through.
I see. Thank you so much for your comments!
Read description. Basically, the boy was given a old violin from a foreign trader but lost during WWII. After the war, a man working for British found and gave it to his daughter, who became world-renowned violinist before passing on to her grandson. He then restored and played it on Esplanade where the violin's journey first began.
But I wish they held the bows correctly and tightened the hair on the bow before using it, and then loosened it when they were done playing
Twoset go
Kejadiyan ter aneh diduniya
its a
Nice one... but as a true Singaporean short film, its a bit kiasu on the budget
+Eric Gosal budget was about 5 digits for this film.. not the budget that was a problem... it's the team behind it tbh...
8:34-8:56 is that US plane? dropping the nuclear bomb on japan??
Yes
@@myfyp2 thx
That is not how you hold a violin bow and he was not even fingering the notes correctly on the fingerboard...
Does it matter? The film was brilliant!
Theo Yeah... I guess it was despite that....
+Joshua Moreno Good point, darling. But this is about morals, not history.
Exactly
Joshua Moreno I realized that too,but it that's OK, people aren't going to spend the time to make the fingerings perfect
Merdeca?!!
Its prononsed Merdeka its some celebretion for their country (Malaysia) u must know that by now.
I'm not sure what this is supposed to represent. Maybe sub-titles would have helped because I kept having to cur away to find out dates
Is that indonesian flag and word "MERDEKA"? Is this really singapore? Or indonesia?
I think it's for malaysia
It is for Singapore. Because at one period of time Singapore Merged with Malaysia.
that not nice I will join the fight to help singspore when ok
Japanese no
Get out you onion cutting ninjas.....
