    A little trick... when you have the car on the scales, lean in your seat as far as you can to the right and the left, and check out how much that affects the cross weight of the kart. Then if you are tight or loose, you can lean in the seat to help correct it. Kart racing is just like late model racing, except everything is micro scale, so just that small weight shift can make a difference! Raced karts for a few years, and won a LOT of races by having the kart dialed in.

      @racingpink2029 Před 4 lety +3

      That's not good advice... whatever way you race is the way you should scale the kart... if you have to move yourself around in the kart during a race to adjust you are doing something wrong

    • @jackfield8682
      @jackfield8682 Před 4 lety +1

      racingpink20 think about the g force that you will face and the the load will be on the right front and rear tyres because of left hand turn then slightly to the left for the straights because it’s flat on tray circuit

      @racingpink2029 Před 4 lety +1

      Jack Field I used to race at this track and pretty much won every time I ran out there in the heavy class... I have never moved myself around in the seat to adjust the setup... if you set the kart up the way you race then why should you move yourself around? Then you just messed up the whole setup... that’s my opinion...

    • @Skybolt211
      @Skybolt211 Před 4 lety +6

      @@racingpink2029 Of course you scale the kart to the way you race. Duh. The only reason to lean while it's on the scale is so he can see how much that actually changes the setup. I guess you've never run any long races where the track tightens up due to the track gettin rubbered up, or the car changes because of heat in the tires, etc. But if you start noticing your kart is getting loose or tight during the race, why wouldn't you do something to help it out there? It would be stupid not to. I ran 2 different classes. In Limited, where you have much more power, you can miss the setup a little and win. In stock Heavy, power is at a premium, and a tight kart will scrub off speed in a hurry. It's impossible to get the setup perfect every time, if for no other reason that the track can change between heat and feature races.

    When they’re tapping on the back of there helmet they want you to push them. Another key is getting on the gas before you need it. I saw another comment about staying in the gas as much as possible. You’re doing great, seat time is the most important part of any kind of racing. Kart racing is dirty. My dad always told me they sell bodies everyday. Use it. Be aggressive.

      With such a regid frame and suspension, unlike the other classes of race cars, taking a # from LF will soften RR add a # to LF will put more pressure on the RR,you can test this theory by just taking a square metal frame and put several same thickness of shims under all corners then remove 1 or 2 from a corner and see what happens to the opposite corner.

    • @ric127610
      @ric127610 Před 4 lety

      @@michaellukasiewicz9683 I would agree with your theory if your racing on a hard surface. On dirt , however, its a soft surface and always changing. Unlike pavement, dirt-track racing pushes the soft dirt to the top of the turn. By letting air out of the front left tire flatten the tire's surface where it meets the track. In doing so would cause that tire to stay in the racing groove. By adding air to the right front tire would allow that tire to slide better. Keeping in mind both tires are still turning.

If you feel like you can’t hold it in the corner, make your entry a little later and feather that gas pedal. Keep it hard inside during the apex of the corner and feather it getting in, soon as you hit that apex you need to be wide open on the exit. You will never get an accurate reading on individual weights or cross. Get your tire program in order with a SIMPLE prep line like venom juice, haskins, soco etc, all great companies with straight forward prep that works. The top of your seat should be no higher than 9” off the rear axle. Start there with proper seat placement and scale accordingly. Stay off the brakes and use momentum, those little clones don’t have any power to get you out of the corner if you lose speed. Corner speed is EVERYTHING in controlled classes like clones, flatheads etc. Sideways is not fast, drive it like you’re on asphalt. When you get off the track, you should be washing and wiping tires IMMEDIATELY before anything else. Save the video talks for after the races and focus on on your program and be hands on deck at all times. I promise you will see change in good time if you focus on the things I mentioned. Keep your roll speed, focus on tires, and chassis setup and you’ll be up front in no time. There is a wealth of info on Bob’s 4 Cycle where we all pick each other’s brains and get the word from the horse’s mouth from the manufacturers and the fastest guys in the country. Carry on man!

    I agree with Bill and Michelle below, Mr. Dave needs some Hunt the Front apparel for his hard work. The old guys know their stuff when it comes to setups. I used to run at a .4 mile bull ring in Asheville NC. If us young guys could keep our mouths shut long enough, the old guys would help us with set up and driving technique. You are doing GREAT, just keep driving and listen to every word Mr. Dave says ! You can see in the videos he is focused !!!

    Another thing I would highly highly recommend is m&m bodies they are a hard plastic so when you get bumps they don't break like the fiberglass and when they do bend you just take a heat gun and bend them back to play

    This is my first year racing slingshots and my first couple races, i was never be able to get a good restart. The best advise i can give you is if you're on the outiside just keep as close as possible to who ever is in front of you. Same thing for the inside, give them a few bumps and just keep close

  • @denniskippaw5dpk
    @denniskippaw5dpk Před 4 lety

    Couple of things. The comment about a little higher ark on the straight will help you carry more speed through the corners. For your first real heavy race you improved very fast. Gear combination and the track conditions can make or break you. 40 years ago carting was all about the bump and run and nothing has changed. Your doing well and Mr Dave is your right hand man. BTY Mr Dave looks just like my Dad at age 50 or so. I took a double take. I watched on the 60 inch and you see so much more. Good luck

    You definitely made improvements on your run there. But man they are killing you on the initial start, I ain’t sure exactly what you’re doing but when they throw the green you’re like 6 karts behind already. Hard to make that up with these cause your competition has the same stuff as you. But also they sure race hard for $500, they done more damage to the karts than that. Lord I’d hate to see them race for $1,000. You’re doing good though, seem to be better about every time out there.

    IF you tighten up the clutch the clutch will engage at a low rpm. Therefore taking off faster. That is why they are bumping you up the track on the restart. The clutch needs to come in somewhere 2800 to 3000 rpm. Just a piece of advice. Have over twenty years at the go kart track.
