Sometimes when I see XG I thought, 'Is it ok for them to be this good?' Like, they're still rookie idols but their music and MVs are so high quality. How would they do in the future when they already set the bar so high? It's gonna be harder to impress when people already have high expectation. But then I also think that this is how they show how serious they are. They are aiming for top of the world and they ain't doing things half-heartedly.
I've watched the MV so many times, but I still get goosebumps EVERY SINGLE TIME. Thank you for your honest reaction.

YO PD!!! Just wanted to share the story and lore behind the music video., credit to @exScythed.
- The XG girls are lowered individually into Buddhist Hell by the thread of a spider (the scene with Chisa represents this). The figures you see in the very beginning are wearing traditional Buddhist headdresses. They are surrounded by spirits who are caught in a cycle of reincarnation that never ends. (In Buddhism the “spider’s thread” is a reference to how Buddha took the thread of a spider in Heaven and lowered it down to Hell so that a criminal can climb up from Hell to Paradise. Therefore the thread of a spider is a symbol of slight hope aka a silver lining and of fragility. In the story it’s stated that the thread descended through “many layers of sky and clouds.”)
- The XG girls look on sadly as many spirits attempt to reach Paradise and fail, exploding into nothingness (Chisa looking down from her perch represents this.)
- Even though the XG girls are hailed as goddesses by the other spirits (represented by the way the other spirits bow to them) they realize they still can’t reach Paradise alone aka achieve enlightenment.
- This changes when the XG girls find each other in death, realizing that their meeting was fate in order for them to reach Paradise together (they are tied together by the “red string of fate” and “hesonoo” is Japanese for umbilical chord.) This is represented four times in the video and twice in the chorus of the song; When Juria is running to help a spirit and meets Hinata there’s a close up of her eye where we see her having a vision of an explosion, when Harvey (who has black teeth which in Japan is a common practice amongst women because it represents a “woman with virtues”) meets Jurin, when the XG girls rap/dance together as a group with the drums, and when a wayward spirit’s failure to achieve enlightenment causes an explosion which knocks everyone down leaving only XG standing strong. There’s also a ton of fourth wall breaks showing that they’ve broken away from the circle the spirits are stuck walking in. They know the Truth aka achieved enlightenment and know you’re watching basically. Also, it is only in the later two choruses the girls adlib together. The first chorus, when they haven’t met in the video yet, has none.
- Before XG goes, they bless one of the spirits who is heavily implied to be pregnant with a girl (the moon is associated with womanhood, XG fans are ALPHAZ aka wolves) and has earned the right to be reincarnated.
- The XG girls take a literal leap of faith together and successfully reach Paradise!
The music video is tied to XG’s themes of female empowerment-women have two “x” chromosomes, the girls are “extraordinary,” they have the “x-factor,”they represent a better future for women which is connected to the idea that the next generation of children (children birthed by women who have “new DNA”) are the future hence the futurism stuff. I hope this helps anyone!

I’d have to agree that the music video for PUPPET SHOW brings a whole nother level to, for me what is already powerful song in terms of meaning and storytelling. XG is really extraordinary. All of their releases are chef's kiss. I was fortunate enough to see them perform live in Hyperound Abu Dhabi K-Fest and they were fire! They only performed 5 songs but they were A1, flawless! Their outfits, dance, singing, rapping and everything was perfectly on point! I'm so happy that they announced a world tour, and hopefully, I will be able to see them. XG XG XG!!!!!!!

Everyone I’ve seen react to this hadn’t vocalized any admiration for the hauntingly beautiful shot of Juria during the bridge. It made me SO HAPPY when you did. It’s my personal favorite moment in the music video. It seems like such a simple shot yet it is executed to perfection, in my opinion. If it was overdone, exaggerated in some way, I think it would have lost the way it draws you in - but the simplicity of it and Juria nailing the expression, especially the slight shift on “show” …. Man, I don’t even know. All of it is just too good. I can’t help but wonder if it was intended to be a haunting shot, or if it was meant to be ~pretty. You know? I want to pick the director’s brain. 🙃

This song is one of my top 5 of the year, it's so good! And the mv is really good.

so the story I got from this video, you see them go up to a very female looking figure , covered in a bonnet and lots of frills and lace, very victorian and old school looking. First time we get a good look at that figure, we see her stopping Juria from flying away on the balloons while Hinata holds the figures hand. I think that figure represents Older women/people who say things like "Thats how its always been" and make excuses for toxic masculinity and have been forced to stay in line their whole lives and see it as almost dangerous to stray from that.
We see that guy try and escape through the hole where the light beam is coming from but he explodes, that scene is there to represent the idea that when we see others try and fail, it makes us less likely to try, if those people tried and failed I will too, might as well try and be happy where I'm at. That line of thinking is why women still feel like they have to make songs like Puppet show to begin with.
I think the scene that really solidified this story line in my head is when they all walk up to that Victorian looking Female Figure near the end and gently take her hands almost like they are reassuring her and even though there is no dialogue it almost made me feel like they were saying with their expressions "Don't worry we've got it from here, it's our turn and we'll win this time." before they make the plunge to the top.
The girls are showing that with the right attitude, and the right support and belief in yourself, you'll not only escape your purgatory but you'll make it all the way to the top :) I love the visual storytelling in this MV

This particular mv from XG has deep deep meaning like something esoteric and mystical about them or maybe im just trippin idk i feel like buddha rn 🕉️☸️😅
The only thing I wish for is that they find another topic to sing about. I really don't need XG to tell me how great they are, I can see and hear that since they debuted.
I love them doing female empowerment of course, I just don't think that it's very helpful for equality to look down on others, because that's what they are doing in Puppet Show in my opinion. There is a big difference between this and Mascara regarding the message that comes across, I think.
One could say that I think too much about lyrics of a pop song, but it being a pop song from a successful group, singing in english no less, does mean that a lot of people hear and understand the lyrics.
IMO, the reactions (from the listeners) to the song is the end goal for them. "Puppet Show" is a song that says 'If this makes you feel uncomfortable, imagine how it feels in reallife".
This could've easily been like Kepler's concept but oh well, their company messed up their concept 💀
