You have to play each pathway 2 times in Story Mode to get both endings. You can’t just pick the final stage and do the other mission. You HAVE to do the same route, get to the 6th stage again and do the other mission to get that ending too. Long story short you have to do a total of 10 playthoughs of the story mode soooo... good luck with that. 2 routes for True Villain, Anti Villain, Neutral, Anti Hero, and True Hero. And if you’re still confused, you do the same route you just finished but this time you have to do Vector’s mission to get that ending. Sorry if this is too long but I’m happy to help. Also this is my second favorite Sonic game so come at me peoples.

You don't have to do the same pathway twice. You just have to complete each of the two missions on each of 5 final stages and then beat a boss. It'll count as an "ending get" and after that he'll unlock Last Story. He still does have to do it through Story Mode though, which means he'll have to beat Westopolis another 9 times.
Vixuzen Yeah you right, but I’m sure everyone else who played this game (and tolerated it) played the same pathway to get to the final stage again. Then again you can change your pathway anyway you want so you right.

Some people's definition of "bare minimum completion": congratulations, you did it. My definition: 10 story playthroughs that each end with a different boss (those circles on the far right of the map), plus 1 playthrough of the Last Story. I cordially invite you to abuse save states to save time if you screw up any of the story routes. If you plan your routes proper, you'll also unlock each stage.
Now if you're feeling up for an "Expert Mode" completion, definitely consider finding all the keys while getting all stage A ranks. The unlocked doors carry over to Expert Mode once unlocked. Good luck lad!

To unlock the last story (called "The last way" in this game), you need to play every final level twice, once with the hero mission, and again for the evil mission, that means you have to play the game 10 times.

There are a total of 11 True endings. The game is considered "beaten" when the 11th ending is completed.
The 11th ending is considered the canonical ending of the game (Sega needs something to make sequels off of). However, it must be unlocked first.
In order to unlock the 11th ending, you must first complete the other 10 True endings first. That means fighting all 10 final bosses. In order to do that, you must go to all 5 final levels at least twice and complete the good and evil paths of each final level.
In other words, you must play through the main game at least 10 times.
Once you beat all 10 final bosses, a option on the title screen called "Last Story" will appear. Selecting that option will bring you to a new and canonical storyline, with no missions, Just a linear progression. It is recommended that you play through all the levels in the main game at least once to understand the new storyline. In other words, the "Last Story" assumes that everything in the main game happened. You'll understand when you see it.
By the way, friendly tip: Have you seen those crates with Shadow's emblem laying around? Every time you beat one of the 10 final bosses, a special weapon is unlocked. Those special weapons can be found by breaking the shadow box.

I had to do a work placement at a "college" (just a small place that taught English to foreigners and a few other low-grade courses) and their computer room literally had a sign on the door with Vector the Crocodile on it. No joke.

-To unlock the final story mode, you need to defeat every final boss. There are 5 final stages and each one has 2 bosses (a total of 10 playthroughs)
-Different paths have different stages, so you can still decide which ones to take/repeat
-Also since you are using a certain **cough** program **cough** to run the game, i recommend using save states so if u take a wrong route by mistake (like what happend in the video), u don't need to repeat the *whole* playthrough

There’s like 10 different endings that you need to do to get the final chapter or story or whatever it is. There’s the 5 paths that I think you know of but at the final stage thingy you ether go good or evil. So there are 5 paths, 10 endings. If this was confusing look it up XD
To get the dark ending you need to complete all the dark missions or beat air fleet dark mission

You have to do ten endings. All the last levels doing both hero and dark missions. You still need to find the computer room. You did one dark mission.
See those dots at the ends of the pathways at 0:42? Each one is a possible ending. You need to get all of them to unlock the true ending. That means you have to play every final level twice, and the first level 10 times.

In order to unlock the true story, you just need to get the 10 main endings(do the hero and dark missions for each of the final stages). I've done this myself and it's very time consuming, so I'd recommend making the episodes longer so that this series isn't longer than the Sonic 2006 hiatus.

To get the Last Story, i belive you have to get Everysingle of the circles/endings in the Route Tree

I played this game again the other day and I remembered why this is my favorite sonic game
To unlock the true ending/final route you have to beat both dark and hero bosses for all 5 final levels (so play through the story 10 times).
Alternatively you could just do 3 more runs:
I'd recommend going for the highest final dark level-GUN fotress and doing the dark mission, doing dark or hero with the netural final level-Lava shelter, and doing the good mission in the highest hero final mission-final haunt.
Otherwise you could do all final 5 levels once. Your choice.
I really like this game XD I've played it way too many times. It has some flaws but there's some good stuff too. Some of the levels & missions are really fun after one gets used to the controls.
There are 326 ways to get to the end, 10 actual endings, and one true ending. As far as minimizing all your playthroughs to a minimum, here you go: 1 ending of all evil, 1 ending with one evil, 1 endings with all neutral, 1 ending with one hero, 1 ending with all hero. On the last stage in the first playthrough of each path, I recommend doing all evil on the final stages first. But then you have to go back and do that same path again, but doing the hero missions instead of the dark ones. Maybe I explained that well enough.
I would love to see them play through all 10 (Basic) endings

There's 5 final stages, each with 2 possible missions. The only thing you need to do is get to clear each of those missions to unlock the last story. In other words, do something similar you have done up to this point, but 10 times.

Hate to break it to you, Peter, as a Shadow the Hedgehog veteran (had to complete the game several times cause I kept losing my data), you have to play through the game, at minimum, ten times. You have to complete the Hero and Dark side missions at the end of each "last" level respectively. Meaning, ten playthroughs are necessary at bare minimum to unlock the last story.
In order to unlock the final story, you need to beat the ten "final" bosses.
Ooga booga
Total of 628 different possible routes for story mode. Unlock true ending by beating all 10 final bosses. Get A rank for all missions to unlock hard mode.
Also, ive played this level. That 15 minute timer is for both goals. After 15 minutes, you have to restart. Great music though.
