Outboards on an ocean going Pacific cruiser seems rather outdated with drive configurations such as twin Volvo Penta D-8 IPS 800s. Outboards serve to limit fishing outings between weekends bay cruising.
We ran a customer cruise a couple Months ago from Sausalito down to Monterey. 85 mile ocean cruise. We had several 50 foot IPs 700 and IPs 800 boats. And IPs 500 along with the 48 tiara LS version with triple outboard 600s the outboard boat got down quicker to Monterey and very comfy, but the return trip, headed “uphill” the 48 got back hours ahead of the others as it was able to hold a higher speed going g over the waves while the inboard boats all had to slow down and slow down more as conditions built.. it was eye opening for a guy like Me who loves IPS
