2017 and witchfinder general is still the most frightening film of all time
Vincent Price iz my all-time favorite!...and tho' I'll alwayz love his hamminess - he wuz ancestor to both Svengoolie (Chicago TV!) and horror-rockabilly band The Cramps - his serious performance in this iz awesome.
The movie is not fiction.Is based on a real character,Matthew Hopkins.And the worse thing is,he was not the only one.The great german astronomer,Kepler,went to great hardship,trying to save his mother from the bonfire.She was accused by a woman she bumped to in a street,that later broke her arm,and accused Kepler's mother of witchcraft.
Witchfinder General was not written by Poe. It actually had nothing to do with Poe. In the US they claimed it's Poe because the earlier Poe/Price films had been such favorites. The American film title "Conqueror Worm" is from Poe of course.

"Witchfinder General" was the original British title of this film. "The Conqueror Worm" was the name of a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, and had nothing whatever to do with the film. However, the film was released in the U.S. under that title in an attempt to tie it in with the series of Edgar Allen Poe movies that Vincent Price had previously made for Roger Corman. However, regardless of the title, it is one of the best horror movies, with an excellent performance by a surprisingly-restrained Vincent Price, and well worth a look.

A pretty shocking movie at the time it came out...It has been said that Price hated it and thought it was far to violent!!!
Pretty soon in the 2020-30s, it will be the Woke Finder General, pursuing all those that disagree with their vision of the world...
