It’s a spectacle here in the US with the arrival of Messi. Tickets for that game sold out in 10 minutes. You can usually get a ticket to an FC Dallas game under $40 but for this game they started at $199. Tickets prices for Inter Miami games have gone through the roof and people are paying a premium on the resell market with some paying well into the $1000. His shirt sales broke the record for highest selling in 24 hours when there’s a team change. Inter Miami instagram following was under 1 mill followers and now after Messi they are at 13.4 mill.

One thing I wanted when Messi said that he would play on Inter Miami, was that I didn't want him to be on vacation and playing without desire to say it in some way. But he actually is extremely involved and enjoying himself and the game, he gets mad he fight he talks to the refs you can even see giving directions in the middle of the match like if he was Guardiola. The leagues cup is all 29 MLS teams versus all 18 Liga MX teams in a World Cup style tournament. There was a group stage, a round of 32, a round of 16, and so on. The winner of the tournament gets regional bragging rights and $2 million in cash. The top three finishers get automatic bids into the CONCACAF champions league for a chance at winning a spot in the club World Cup and $5 million cash. Both Liga MX and MLS have completely stopped their seasons for the duration of the tournaments. The seasons resume on August 20. CONCACAF champions league features 27 teams… Three club teams from the Caribbean, six club teams from Central America, and the remaining 18 from the United States, Mexico and Canada.
As for CONCACAF Champions League here’s a breakdown of how teams qualify:
Canadian Championship Cup: winner. This is the Canadian FA cup with all the domestic pro/semipro leagues in canada plus the three Canadian MLS teams
U.S. Open Cup: winner. This is the U.S. FA Cup. The non-Canadian MLS teams play amongst all the other three professional leagues in the American pyramid as well as semi-pro teams who make it through a qualification process.
Canadian Premier League: top 2 finishers
MLS: 5 teams based on standings and playoff results
Liga MX: 6 teams total. 3 from Clausura and 3 from Apertura.
    Leagues cup: top three finishers
Copa Centroamericana: top six finishers. The copa centroamericana is the club competition for Central America. After the season the top 2-4 finishers from each league in Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Beliz play in a club competition with group stage and knockouts. Top six finishers make champions league.
Carribean Challenge Cup: top 3 finishers. The league champion from each carribean countries league plays a qualification tournament amongst each other. Top three finishers make champions league.

I needed this, thank you. I'm from south america and our CONMEBOL tournaments are a bit different. What shook me with the Leagues Cup was the difference in the point's system if it goes to penalties in the group phase, and that there is no extra time.

@@MissStella44 no problem at all. They decided on not having extra time because it’s so many games in such a short window, and between the domestic FA cup, some teams already having played in 2023 CONCACAF Champions League March-June, the domestic 34 game seasons, plus league playoffs having extra time in this addditional tournament would put too much strain on the players, plus some teams just flop around for most of extra time and don’t actually try to do anything anyways. Since teams were in group of three due to their being an odd number, the additional point system was to prevent teams playing for a point to eliminate a mutual rival or just secure both of their places in the knockouts. Starting in 2025 there should be 4 team groups with the addition of a 30th team to MLS that year making 48 total teams instead of 47.
As for CONCACAF Champions League here’s a breakdown of how teams qualify:

Something else I liked in the group stage was the point system. If a match ended in a tie, each team got 1 point, but then it went to a shootout for a bonus 2nd point. So: 3 pts regulation win, 2 pts for a shootout win after a tie, 1 pt for a shootout loss after a tie, 0 pts for regulation loss

FC Dallas is midtable, but there isn’t a lot that separates the teams because of the salary cap. That’s why the games are almost always competitive. Teams usually spend big money on attacking mids or forwards, so defense does lack a bit. The perception is that MLS is a retirement league, but it really isn’t anymore-due to young DP and U22 rules. There are a lot of good, young players from North and South America.

I've always thought Christiano Ronaldo was the superior player, but Messi's start to his MLS career has been one of the most magical and phenomenal career moves in all of sports. This has to be some of the most entertaining soccer in the world right now. There is some talk about whether Messi is effectively making the MLS look bad because he's making it look so easy, but (although there's no doubt he's often given a little too much time on the ball) there has been some spectacular team play around him and no goalie in the world would stop these free kicks.

There's a central American cup as well but not as high profile. So the north American domestic cups are , us open cup , Canadian championship, Copa MX , Campeones Cup, which is MLS winner vs Liga MX winner, Campeon de Campeones, which is Mexico's super cup and now leagues cup.

I personally feel like the Miami coverage is being so overboard that it’s disrespecting The rest of the teams. someone beating Miami will have the international audience taking note of the rest of the league, even if for just two weeks before they play again. That being said, this was a phenomenal game. If this is the standard and the quality and the level of play that Lionel Messi is going to bring to MLS and make every other team bring when they play him, it will only make our league better Because this sort of play will start to show up in other games as well. Can’t get much more entertaining than this.

Overboard? I disagree. I am a regular season ticket holder of a western conference MLS club, and I didn't even know there's a Charlotte club in the east. With the "overboard" coverage of Miami incoming games, I learned they would potentially play against your club in League Cup and the MLS regular season. So last night I went to see the match between Charlotte and Houston on Apple TV. It's not disrespect but who could spend time to follow all the clubs? The fans can only follow the biggest stars and your small clubs would benefit from that. Why do you complain about a phenomenon beneficial to your own interest?

You can get a row 1 seats for about $70. Otherwise its in the $30-$50 range. Dallas fields a competitive mid-table roster. Well, he certainly can’t go to Miami. Would be hilarious if he went to Orlando. I’d love for him to come to my Charlotte, but I doubt that. Either way they can’t bring him over now, the MLS transfer window has closed. They can only sign free agents now.

as an American that doesn't watch soccer can anyone explain to me how defending a shoot out goal isn't pure luck? seem like the goalie doesn't really have any chance at blocking the shot if the shooter takes even a halfway decent shot. am I wrong?

    • @chrisb5000
      @chrisb5000 Před 10 měsíci +1

It's a bit of luck and also prediction.
Some goalies are better at predicting where the ball is going to go and diving in that direction. But that's easier said than done.
Also the fact that the player kicking the ball is also nervous and can make mistakes. It's 50% skill and 50% head games in penalty shootouts.
In the last world cup, the Argentinian goalie made some spectacular saves during the game and during the penalty shootout.

well, the last three games, he was amazing. I would not blame him, the worst was Gomez, very nervious, bad passes, losing ball all the time, that put Miami in a bad spot a few times.

Yeah I dont think he is that bad, really. I saw these last three games and he was good, at least he delivered what was needed. This one was not his match tho but every player has bad games even Messi had.

Well, To be honest, The difference between Miami and The other teams, Talent, tactics, stragety... is surprisingly signifigant just after couple of games. Watch Miami-Charlotte! What a slaughter! Should have been at least 7-0. And Messi is maybe using like 40% of his Talent, but he is committed To play anywhere
    and everywhere on The pitch.😢
